It's been such a pleasure to work with Julia for our family/newborn photos. She's great at communicating and was clear about wanting to take photos of newborns within the first 2 weeks of birth to get them in the best/cute positions. I ended up having my baby a month earlier then my due date and everything still worked out for us to schedule. A few days before our photoshoot Julia sends a super detailed email outlining how the shoot will be successful, what to bring, what to wear, etc which is incredibly helpful when you're potentially not even thinking about any of that when you come home with a baby for the first time. Instead of being overwhelmed I was really excited. She has a studio at her home on Bay Farm which made it really convenient for us to pop over. Also wanted to point out that our family photos included my new baby, husband, and fur baby! Our baby arrived earlier than expected and I was supremely disconnected from the whole thing even during my pregnancy so I didn't get a chance to plan any shoots at all. When my baby arrived, it all kicked in very quickly and I reached out to Julia when baby was 4 days old, begging Julia to accept our appointment for a newborn shoot. She had the set up done prior to our arrival and made it nice and cosy, let me choose from the color themes she had, helped me pick one if I were too confused by showing me pictures of previous babies with similar skin tones and color themes so I could understand better too. She factored in the time to feed the baby and for our costume change too. She talked to me about the challenges of a new mom and helped me with tips on lactation too which was so so so nice to hear bc I was on the verge of losing my mind. We have a Sony alpha that we use to capture daily moments but you simply cannot beat the studio structure and especially her editing skills which show her prowess. I can't begin to express how great it was to work with Julia! We were on the fence about doing both maternity and newborn photos. I looked into Julia for my maternity photo shoot after seeing her photograph my friend's family. I loved how her pictures looked more editorial and "moody" compared to the light, bright and airy looks we've done with other photographers in the past. Julia is a true professional- we met over Zoom (Covid era for ya) and I introduced her to my family. She went over my outfit choices (I ended up selecting two dresses from her personal collection and she helped me source a secondhand SewTrendy dress that ended up being the main look for our shoot) as well as ideas for what my daughter and husband should wear. I liked that she gave a lot of guidance with her professional knowledge into what would look good in photos and what to avoid. On shoot day she was early to our meet up and we wasted absolutely no time getting into it, which was very much appreciated because we were working with a toddler and a dog- both of whom can be temperamental! She captured plenty of great shots during our 1.5 hour session. 10 days after our session we met once more over Zoom to select the photos I wanted her to edit and finalize. It was difficult but I managed to narrow it down to 16 images. As Julia is a full-service photographer, we started talking about ordering prints in frames to make a gallery wall. She explained that only by printing through her can she guarantee color quality but I decided that the print and frame would be too much out of my budget and when I declined to proceed Julia was so understanding and definitely not pushy at all.
