It's definitely on the more expensive side for photo booths ($7.50 for one strip), but it's nice that they have a bunch of different types of photo booths in one area. It gets pretty crowded (and hot), so expect to spend at least an hour there. They have black & white, color, and vintage booths with different curtain backgrounds. It takes about 5 minutes for each strip to print out and then you can blow dry it to make it dry faster. Once you pay (card), it immediately starts, so make sure you're already posing (no countdown). Wow ! I really wanted to love this place. Me and my sister arrived and walked ln, the place was packed so we were a bit confused till we finally found the desk where they gave us almost no information, almost felt like we were bothering them. So we continued and tried to enjoy our time. While taking pictures at some of the Photo Booth, some pictures might take up to 2 1/2 or three minutes to print out... One of the booths had a rope on it, but the green light was on, which indicated that you may still use the booth. Only my first time here I was thinking the rope was there because maybe someone was waiting for their pictures because the pitchers do take about 2-3 minutes to print out. And not knowing that it was out of service because there were no signs and the GREEN LIGHT was ON. we paid for our pictures and continue to navigate around to other booths to my surprise, a lady came out with a very rude attitude. Yelling at customers saying " WHO TOOK THE ROPE OFF OF HERE!" Her name was (Vionia from chile) she was so disgustingly rude to us that i finally said " hey im sorry i did that I wasn't sure I seen the green light on" she looked at us in disgust. At this point, we were just waiting for a picture to come out of another booth to get ready to exit because we did not feel welcomed. Viona came out and gave us a card to compensate for the pictures that did not come out of the booth. We appreciated that took the card and continue to try and take more pictures... The store also sell other stuff like vynl and CD if I am not mistaken. We tried one time and like it. It is just we wish we can choose to retake if we don't like the photo before printing. We swipted outlr credit card twice and it didn't start and later the worker asked us to use other photobooth and gave us free photo. I had heard about this experience online before and decided to make the visit while I was in San Francisco and it did not disappoint! By the time I got there, it was a Saturday evening and there was a decent line formed outside. The wait wasn't too bad, I think I waited around 15 minutes. The inside is a bit small, so it can feel a bit cramped with the amount of people that are there. There are around 5 photobooths in the main room and another 2-3 in the back, so plenty of options for different backgrounds and styles which is nice that they have that variety. I've seen this place advertised on social media for a while and finally had the chance to try. I came on a Saturday afternoon and the place was packed. There is also a back room with more photo booths. I recommend going to the back as I liked the ones there more than the front. The place is very disorganized as it was hard to tell where the lines started and ended. The booths are very expensive, about $7 and up, which is on the expensive side. The photos come out wet, but there are hair dryers for you to dry them. Since they're older booths, there is no screen to see your poses and it's unpredictable when it's gonna take the pictures so you have to have your poses ready before starting. The photos take about 2-5 minutes to come out after you finish taking them. Most booths also only give you one strip. There is also a menu option to make key chains, scan photos, etc. Those were very expensive and I recommend just doing yourself at home. They explained the different booths before me and and my boyfriend went inside and gave some inspiration for some poses. On the weekend it does get busy and you may have to wait outside for a little. A little tip is to have poses planned out because all the photo booth process goes by so fast it's easy to feel a little flustered. Each booth has a description and what the photo strip will look like. Some strips come in 3 layout, some in 4 layout and one of the booths I went into gave 2 strips. I was lucky enough to attend the Club Photomatic's Photo Booth Museum grand opening 12/12/2024 at 2275 Market Street between Noe and Sanchez. Their normal open hours will be 11-7pm. They are constantly searching and fixing up these relics! There is only about 250 original machines left. It is possible to fix them and can give them a digital upgrade. But there is a difference when you take the photos. The analog versions takes longer to print because the photo process dips the image in different camera fluids inside the machine as it is developing the photo inside by itself to create the final strip photo. That is why when the final photo strip comes out of machine, it is still wet. I talked with one of the owners, Doug about the process. It is very fascinating. During this grand opening was mostly young people who never grew up with photo booths. I remember seeing these in old school movies. This is similar to those fortune teller machines where you put a coin or in this case, your credit card and you have 6 seconds to strike either 3-4 poses, so prepare yourself with your poses in advanced. Remember to let lose, be funny or serious and just have fun. Be creative like I did. Some of their machines are permanent in local businesses like Mission Bowling was the one I first noticed. Lovely venue it lives in. Great place for parties and bowling! It brings back nostalgia and makes you think wow, my grandparents or parents must had a great time with their experiences like I did when using this Photo Booth in person for first time! A hard copy picture in your hands just feels so much real that a digital photo which you can't touch or feel. Makes me think of happy times in a circus carnival where times were simpler. A picture is worth a thousands words. I was lucky enough to be able to make a keychain out of my two photos and using the picture hole puncher was fun! I never used one before. There was a couple of booths that weren't in service. The owner said they were currently in the process of refurbishing the other photobooths so hopefully they'll be working soon. FYI no bathrooms. - didn't drive (parking in the area is tricky), but took public transit as it's only a 1-2 min walk to the Castro Muni station! The Photo Experience (9/10): super chill as you could just walk up to any available photo booth, tap your credit card (Apple Pay is also accepted), then the booth will immediately start taking your pics. Most of the photo booths have a 3-5 min wait for it to print. They also have a hair dryer available to dry your photos if needed. There's also complimentary paper holders too! I booked Photomatica for my small wedding event. Brady was AWESOME. Our venue was very small and had narrow door openings so we wanted to ensure it could fit! It was a HIT! Tim installed it quickly and quietly and kept around the area in case we needed assistance. We had over a hundred people leave us their photos in our wedding album. I contacted Photo-matica around December 3rd, 2018 for my wedding on May 11th, 2019 and the whole process was incredibly seamless. First off, when looking for a vendor I search for someone who is friendly, quick at responding and consistent. Photo-matica was easily the best fit and it was apparent right off the bat. When I first spoke with Dave I was concerned with how quickly the cost of my wedding was climbing, but he helped me customize a package that fit closer with my budget and I'm grateful for that! He continued to be an enormous help by sending me occasional reminder emails that I should start thinking about backgrounds, fonts, layouts etc. By spreading the reminders out over time he definitely helped keep me on track while not making me feel overwhelmed. (It was easy to feel overwhelmed that close to the big day.) Andrew was the attendant that night and he sent us a congratulatory postcard afterwards! That was really nice :) I didn't see him at the photobooth when I went to take pictures with friends (at all???), but nothing broke so I have no complaints! He probably just blended in well with everyone. By the end of it I felt like there was a clear value add to having them. The product is great (really great), but unfortunately the day-of service was not. First, the good. The product is amazing. The shots are great. We had a photo album that the guests slipped their pics into, and we got a USB stick with all the shots. And this is a proper old-school type booth, not the 'psuedo' booth devices which are really just a camera on a light stick with a backdrop. I love the feel of ducking behind a curtain and making silly faces. It's really fun. Now, the downside for our day. The guy (Ian) setting the booth up showed up late (not helpful). And before he set up, he asked about his vendor meal. Can you set up first (you're late!) and yes - we have a vendor meal for you. We were told he would be on site all day, but he was not. He hung out in a van in the driveway. Was not helpful, proactive, or friendly. At the end of the night, we realized that we (bride and groom) hadn't thought of getting our shots too! Well, it was too late, and Ian was packing up. Not his fault, but would have been nice to get a heads up that he was going to take the equipment down in a few minutes. We just got a dud on the service side of things, which took away from the experience. Ian should find something else to do. He's a downer to have around (or rather, not have around) on your wedding day. In summary, I'd recommend this product and company with the caveat that you want to be sure you get someone good to come with the device for your event! I wish we had. read more
