What is the point of amazing decorations, flowers and food if there is no one there to capture the moment? After researching hundreds of local photographers, we narrowed the list to our top five based solely on their online photo galleries. Chris was the first one we scheduled a meeting with, and we ended up booking him the next day. Chris's philosophy at Shepard Photography matched our style perfectly; simple, clean and modern. We could not be happier with our choice. Chris includes an engagement session with all of his wedding packages, and at first we thought about trying to ask him to cut it out to save a little money. I am so glad we did not though, because the engagement session really was a great way to get comfortable with being photographed in a less stressful setting. As the wedding date neared, we met with Chris again. This time he wanted to check out the wedding site to get a better feel for what we were looking for in the final product. In that same day we traveled the extra half hour to our hotel where we planned on taking our wedding party photos. Throughout this meeting we put together a schedule for the big day and came up with a list of the photos we would like to have. We left that meeting feeling very confident that we had picked the perfect photographer for us. As the day neared the inevitable changes to the schedule needed to be made. Chris was great taking those changes, adjusting the schedule and getting us revised copies quickly. When the day finally arrived, Chris and his assistant/wife Angela were we right on time (unlike some other parts of our wedding entertainment). Chris was excellent working with our planner/caterer to make sure that everything moved along according to schedule. Seeing his past work and watching his professionalism had a calming effect on us during that stressful day. We knew that even if everything else didn't go perfectly we were going to get fantastic photos. We received over 400 pictures from Chris of our big day and they are fantastic! We would highly recommend him to any couples looking for a wedding photographer.

I know lovebirds don't like to think about what might happen if your wedding is cancelled or…read morepostponed ... but please make note of Chris' non-refundable clause in his contract. The deposit is non-refundable and the remaining balance is due in full if a cancellation is within 6 months of the wedding. Earlier this year, my wedding was called off 5 months out, and my family lost out on $3,000. He said he might consider refunding $2,000 of it if he was able to re-book the date and if I submitted a signed cancellation notice, but after I did so and paid the balance in full, I never heard from him again. After hearing me say such great things about Chris from our initial meeting, my mom found it hard to believe that he might not at least offer *some* service in exchange for the $3,000 he collected, such as a family portrait session. But when she reached out to him to inquire about it, her email went unanswered. In the interest of full disclosure, here's an excerpt from one of Chris' emails as to why he maintains the non-refundable clause: "I do need to protect my income, like most wedding venders, I have one to two cancelations a year. Even one wedding is a significant part of my income for my family. Since everything is booked up so far in advanced it is hard to fill cancelled dates with less than 6 months before the wedding." I scouted this guy for two years before asking him to shoot our wedding because I was so impressed with his talent behind the lens. I'm sorry to say I wasn't as impressed with his people skills. Please consider EVERYTHING when planning your wedding, folks. Even the "what ifs" ...

It was really nice being able to go to different locations to shoot and the session we booked felt like every moment was utilized. Jesse was super funny so it was really easy getting us to laugh and act candid. Her experience also was helpful when it came to posing so that we looked natural. It was nice that she was open to certain poses we wanted to take and also suggested other ones. We received our photos within a couple days and were able to download straight from the website! She is also familiar with editting programs like photoshop to create different styles as well. So glad we decided to work with her, would highly recommend Jesse! :)

In terms of background scenery, I didn't know what I wanted, so I described the purpose of the photos and Yu recommended some areas around downtown/midtown Sacramento. During the photo session, I found Yu very easy to work with and professional the entire time. She suggested some really great areas for the shoot. Afterwards, she provided the photos the next day. About a week after the wedding we got a digital copy of all our photos sent to us via a private dropbox link.
