This practice is absolutely awful, and I would highly recommend that you stay away if you are looking for quality prenatal care. Every single appointment we have had has been riddled with mistakes. My wife was so excited to find an OB/GYN to walk with us through pregnancy, but the Physicians & Midwives Collaborative has been worse than a nightmare for us. On visit #1 we were asked four separate times whether our pregnancy was planned, which was embarrassing and highly offensive, especially since we are a married couple in our mid-20s. The doctor never allowed my wife to ask any questions during the visit and would not believe us that we had insurance (I had just changed jobs and our insurance cards had not arrived yet). The doctor and nurses repeatedly made comments like, "So, you're the ones without insurance, right?" even after we corrected them on multiple occasions. On a subsequent visit, my wife had a sonogram, but we never received the sonogram photos despite asking at least a half dozen times both at the office and over the phone. They repeatedly assured us that they'd send the photos, but we eventually gave up asking after several weeks. Yet another time, we scheduled a sonogram that they apparently forgot to put on the calendar, so we ended up needing to wait as they scrambled to hastily shove us in between two other people. Most recently, my wife attempted to have her glucose test done. Forty-five minutes into waiting for the 1-hour test a receptionist asked us why we were still in the waiting room since we had already seen the doctor. We responded that we were in the process of receiving a glucose test and needed to wait before blood could be drawn. At the hour mark, we hadn't been contacted by a nurse, so I asked the front desk if we should head into the back to confirm that we should be seen after one hour. The receptionist agreed and sent us into the back. The doctor who we had seen earlier and who gave my wife the glucose solution was talking and laughing with a nurse and, when she saw us, said something about a 10-minute window and told us to go back to the waiting room (we didn't know then but blood must be drawn within 1 hour and ten minutes of drinking the glucose solution). Twenty more minutes went by and we were called into the back again (or so we thought) but it was really for another woman with my wife's first name. We saw the doctor again while back there, but she made no indication that she was surprised we were still there and hadn't had blood drawn yet. Finally, after 2 hours and 15 minutes (and speaking with the receptionists twice and doctor on two other occasions), I spoke to the receptionists a THIRD time and inquired why we had waited well over two hours when we were told it would be a one hour wait. Only at that point did it finally sink in for them that something was wrong. Long story short, they messed up and we'd have to leave and come back later to redo the glucose test again after wasting over 3 hours of our time. Also, the entire time we were waiting there were never more than two other women in the waiting area, so they were hardly busy at all. Most frustrating is that the doctor who assigned the 1-hour glucose test saw us multiple times between one hour and an hour and a half and never batted an eye that we had not had blood drawn yet despite the fact that we were practically the only patient there. Please, go here if you want a horrible experience, demeaning questions, and physicians who are happy to just "phone it in." read more

Having read the reviews I ended up going to P&M during my 3rd pregnancy anyways because they were one of the few OB offices that took my insurance. I absolutely loved the midwives and 1 of the doctors. I wanted to do a VBAC and a few of the doctors I met with were less than supportive and a couple of the older gentlemen felt it was absolutely out of the question (though my c-section before was completely normal and had no complications). I went into the hospital after my water broke and was greeted by Dr. Elins and midwives Jenna. Dr. Elins is truly fantastic and was completely supportive of my birth plan. She supported VBAC's with pitocin and monitored me very closely to make sure that all was going well. Midwife Jenna was there to perform my labor and was truly so very wonderful! She was kind, supportive, encouraging... everything any woman in labor wants in their midwife. I was able to get appointments within a few hours on the day of, and was always able to choose exactly which provider I wished to see. The nursing staff were quick to get me into my appointments, even if I was early, and always very polite. My only major complaint with this office is their Advice Nurse line. My baby hadn't moved all day and I was quite concerned. I called and left a message for the advice nurse and waited for over an hour and ended up just going to Labor and Delivery on my own. I never did receive a call back from them (which I noted to the midwife on call at the hospital who was quite upset to hear so). Overall I was very happy with the practice and would recommend each and every one of the midwives to any pregnant woman! read more

The first gyno I went to was condescending and rude but thanks to Dr. Ivey that all changed! Hands down one of the BEST gynos I've been to! She's so sweet and so personable! I have happily attended Physicians & Midwives for the entirety of my pregnancy. They've been sweet and nothing short of professional. Although you see a different nurse or midwife each time they are all WELL aware of what is going on with you before seeing you. My first experience with P&M was for my annual wellness exam and was great! It was quick and all of my test results came back very quickly. I scheduled an appointment for my second visit to receive an IUD and the doctor who was set to place the IUD wouldn't do it because I had not been abstinent leading up to the appointment. Mind you, the previous physician I spoke with let me know that abstinence was not a necessary measure prior to IUD placement. I was told to return in 2 weeks to be sure I'm not pregnant (which I'm not). The Paragard IUD is also a form of emergency contraception, which is another reason why it didn't make sense to place it during the time of my appointment, especially considering the fact that I have multiple friends who have had this exact procedure in this office after not having abstained and received their IUD as requested with no pushback. This was a huge waste of time, and I don't have the time to return within the coming weeks. read more

I am new to the area and I went onto yelp to find a trusting and reliable place to go for my woman needs(gynecologist)! I saw their ad on yelp and decided to give them a chance! They make it extremely easy to book with a schedule a button online button! I clicked to book online and was actually able to book a same day appt. They have multiple locations and a variety of doctors and nurse practitioners to choose from! I went to Dr. Gold at the Alexandria location and she was amazing. She was very friendly and made the experience even more comfortable! I was able to get everything checked out and done in the matter of an hour. Overall, the experience was quick and easy and the staff was very accommodating. I highly recommend and will be coming back in the future! read more

I'm so confused by the 3 star rating because this place is absolutely amazing! I'm a nurse practitioner and can be very picky about my providers. I look for a provider that I can trust to take care of me and let me turn my NP brain off and just be the patient. I found this here at Ps&Ms without a doubt. My midwife Elise is absolutely amazing. Every visit I've had, I've been warmly greeted at the front desk, quickly seen by an MA, and quickly seen by the midwife. All my questions have been always been answered expertly, but in ways I could understand. The in office ultrasound is a huge convenience at their Alexandria location, as is their same day/next day appointments and Saturday appointments. I highly recommend them! read more

I am moving from Alexandria and I am heartbroken that I will no longer be able to go to your Kingstowne or Alexandria offices. It is just too far. And from my search the Reston/Herndon/Ashburn area doesn't appear to have a solid OBGYN practice like this one. I have 5 star reviews for this office. I am incredibly disappointed with the care provided to me here. After three appointments with three different CNMs with no discussion of being "high risk", I was called by a physician I have not even met today. She informed me that I was too high risk for their practice because of my age and weight and needed to transfer me to another practice. I logged into my patient portal and my last CNM noted she discussed my "obesity" and "advanced age". But we definitely did not discuss this. Pretty humiliating that my own care providers can't discuss critically important information with me to my face and have to have a complete stranger call me to tell me they are downright refusing to treat me. Happy to move onto another practice that will provide me better care and not treat me like I'm some kind of freak. read more

Went in for some routine testing twice that is covered 100% by my insurance (as it has been done in the past with the same insurance, different OBGYN, same EXACT test) only to later find out it was not covered by insurance because of the way it was billed. Apparently, they use a different item to do the testing that is considered "experimental" by insurance therefore they could not cover it. After initially calling the office, the appalling part was that they all knew this! Somehow they did not think to mention that most insurances wont cover this because of the way they test this, and I had the test done twice! I would have gone to my previous OBYN had I known this but unfortunately I moved and it was too far. You would think that ANYONE in the office might be kind of enough to mention it if it was a known thing either one of those times I went in! EVERY person I talked to in their office knew what had happened before I even disclosed details. After months of getting a runaround after escalting this issue with their billing department, their testing department and the office, I ended up having to pay nearly $500 to avoid getting sent to collection. The worst part is I am extremely diligent and had called my insurance to make sure Physician & Midwives was in network, I double checked to make sure the test was covered, it was and still is! How was I supposed to know this office does their testing differently and why wasn't this disclosed! I trusted the office and my doctors, this is just not okay. Several hundred dollars and frustrating phone calls and emails later. Be careful! read more

So this is going to be long so BE WARNED. This is is my first pregnancy and i researched the heck out of different practices in the area. I initially wanted to go with this other practice however upon seeing physicians and midwives facebook I fell in love with the community culture within their work environment. For me I am a 24 year old first time mom , I wanted to be able to have someone take care of me and provide all the information I needed. One thing I loved was their interactive app that you can download even if you aren't a patient. It has videos , information and contact info for you! Here is my experience though I was previously with another midwife at a different practice for some reason she up and left. Without any update I left the previous place I was at and came to Physicians and Midwives. But upon trying to get a appointment I was met with constant apprehension. I was 5 months pregnant so I understood the wait however when they requested my records I had them immediately delivered. The front desk told my fiancé that she will get back to us. WELL that took 5 days and it was a voicemail stating that there wasn't enough in my record. I only had one appointment and so i explained to them why I only had labs. I kept trying to schedule a appointment but they kept cancelling even after having my records. It took me about a month and a half to finally get a appointment. The front desk receptionist's are not as efficient or kind as you would expect when you work around such a happy experience as pregnancy. They kept giving me a run around , attitude and unreliability when it came to getting one appointment. Honestly I work as a receptionist/front desk and I know how irritating clients can be. But if you do not like your job and it shows just quit. Customer service is so important especially at a doctors office where you are already nervous about being there. Thank God for my fiance and his kindness because I was a phone call away from giving them hell. Appointment time: Finally got my appointment and I was excited to check on my lil guy. He was moving a lot so I was curious about pretty much everything. I got there at 2:45 and was not greeted with smiles. It was weird and once again the front desk were uninviting. I didn't mind it at the moment because honestly I CAN UNDERSTAND. I sat filled out paperwork and waited to be called. I went to the arlington location and it was small but very clean. I waited about 15 mins before being called in. I was seriously sweating under my boob from the heat. They had the heat on blast and I honestly was sweating everywhere. They took me to pee in a cup and then weigh me which I WAS SO DEPRESSED ABOUT! I gained 30 pounds and I was not happy to see 180. The nurse was really sweet I dont remember her name but she called me honey like 30 times within the time we were together. Me being me i counted the times she called me honey in my head while she was talking to me. She took my blood pressure and gave me some information. They give you a book that they designed that answers all your questions! Its an amazing thing to have especially when its your first time. The doctor that I had was Dr. Kongwastan and honestly im sorry if i butchered her name spelling. I really adored her only because she was straight to the point and time conscious. Some people may not be able to take her because of how she's not like a unicorn and daisy person. She is a straight forward doctor who gets you all the info you need and then you can leave. I loved how i was only there with her for like 15 mins. After she checked me I was free to go and it was easy peasy. She told me that every doctor and midwife there works with the patient. So expect to see a different person each time, they have male doctors but unless you request it you wont really see them. SIDEBAR: from what I saw they also have good relationships with their patients even after birth. Ending: All in all besides the front desk once again being jerks the doctors and nurses were great. If i decide to have another child from what I am experiencing I think I would try to find another practice. read more

I love this place. Multiple doctors, practitioners, and midwives if my schedule conflicts with my primary, Dr. Andre. Also, I don't have to explain the conversation I had with a different doctor and one does not conflict with the other. Everyone knows my chart BEFORE the appointment so my time is not wasted. I live in Waldorf, Md. I go out of my way to this facility. I don't have to wait 30 minutes to see my doctor and the visits are quick and easy. If I have questions, I don't feel rushed. This review is for the Kingstowne location. NEVER AGAIN. I am new to the area and looking for a new OB-GYN, however coming here was a complete mistake. I am already searching for a new doctor. First, they ask you to come 15 minutes early to your first appointment. Then they have you wait in the waiting room for 45 minutes after you turn in your paperwork. I arrived at 1pm and after listening to the receptionist take a long personal phone call, I waited, watching other patients walk in late and be taken back before me. At 1:45, I was ready to leave when I was finally called back. No apologies. Then I was told that I had to participate in the interactive game while I waited for my doctor. When I declined, the nurse insisted. No thank you. Finally, the doctor arrives. Dr. Modjoros seemed nice at first, but it became clear she does not have the patients' best interests at heart. Unfortunately, this practice only cares about making money. A healthy 22 year old does not need to come back every 6 months when everything is okay. 12 months is standard. This place does not care about their patients and I am very dissatisfied with the practice. read more

Terror, fear, and utter abandonment are the words that come to mind when I think of my birth experience under the care of P&M. After four days in the hospital being induced with no progress, I was scheduled for a c-section "after another patient who was more urgent because my baby looked perfect." I trusted the P&M team. Unfortunately, everything was not okay with my daughter, and she suffered a very rare birth injury during the c-section that led to her being rushed via ambulance within hours of her birth to a different NICU 30 minutes away for an intense and terrifying treatment to prevent brain damage. While I do not believe that P&M was negligent in our medical care, the way they treated me afterwards was utterly inhuman and devoid of any decency. P&M behaved as if, from the second my daughter was born, I was nothing but a potential lawsuit. Paralyzed with fear for my daughter and confused about what had happened during the c-section, I got no explanation of what had occurred from Dr. Paternostro, the OB who performed the surgery. After denying to my husband that anything whatsoever had gone wrong, she spent the absolute bare minimum of time speaking with me, and couldn't have rushed out of the room quicker. As my husband was with our daughter, I was left trying to piece together what had happened completely alone. The only indication I got about the true gravity of my daughter's situation came from a P&M midwife who insisted on speaking to me alone the morning after the birth, and broke down crying and told me that, "as a mother, she could not stop thinking about me and my baby and the hell I must be going through." But even she offered no actual information about what had happened in the OR. My point is this: you are never more vulnerable than during the birth of a child, and complications can happen even when the medical team does nothing technically wrong. But the doctors and midwives must be able to clearly and humanely communicate with you about these complications and address difficult and scary conversations directly. Based on my experience, P&M is not capable of doing this, and their actions made this mother's nightmare infinitely more difficult. I strongly urge you to go elsewhere for your care. read more
