I have to give only 1 star because the billing staff and practices negate all the professionalism of my doctor (Jackson). The billing manager submitted my bill to Medicare with an incorrect code so the practice sent it to me to pay instead. Despite frequent calls to request that they resubmit with the correct code, they never did and instead sent my bill to a collection agency. The most offensive part of this experience is that I left the billing/insurance manager in the Alexandria office three voicemails begging her to call me so that I could explain what Medicare explained to me. She never bothered. The practice manager promised me this morning that the billing manager would return my call this time. They close in an hour and have yet to hear from her. read more

I've been to CWC Alexandria Office on and off for 16 years. I've always like this office. The doctors had been great to work with and the staff had always been very efficient. My last visit earlier this year (2025) went fine. The doctors were wonderful as expected. The office staff functioned well, but appeared to be frustrated or under a lot of pressure of working very little guidance. The billing department was another story entirely. They took advantage of patient's and medical doctors' ignorance of insurance codes and handed me a mass bill with very little work done. It took me months with calling and leaving messages in order to get to talk to anyone in billing department. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy! I had been seeing Dr. Safran from CWC in DC and absolutely loved him. Due to Covid I had to switch locations (due to the proximity with my house) to this one on walker lane when I found out I was pregnant (1st pregnancy) earlier this year. My first (and last) 3 appointments here were an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE!!!! I am pregnant with twins and they misdiagnosed my twins with extremely scary stuff on those 3 appointments, I basically left in tears the 3 times, their approach was so cold and careless. Every appointment "Dr." Kusic would "find" something new and scary to tell me about my babies. Yet he was so careless and didn't bother going into detail about his diagnosis, I was literally told by him to go home and read about the conditions. Really? Even I know never to google medical conditions as it only freaks you out more. The appointments were always rushed and I always left with my questions unanswered. THANK GOD they referred me to a high risk OBGYN and all the diagnosis Dr Kusic had given me were not only WRONG, but the new dr was in shock that Kusic even suggested my babies had any of those conditions which are IMPOSSIBLE to diagnose/detect that early on. Basically this practice made my first weeks of pregnancy a total nightmare for no reason! Please avoid at all costs. The office is also very run down, dirty, and it's not convenient to visit during Covid, specially if you are pregnant. The elevators and parking lot are always packed. read more

The worst experience I have ever dealt with. Please save yourself the time and avoid this practice and unhelpful and hostile front desk employees. After going through a rough pregnancy and trying to gain reprieve I had to sit and wait for over an hour, even then to have it blamed on me. Both women I spoke to attempted to lie about the time I checked even though I had made it a point to notate the time I checked in. When I asked what was taking so long, I was told a room had to open up, except three women were seen that had walked in after me. AVOID THIS UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNHELPFUL PRACTICE. read more

I'm done with this office. I've given them three years and they have failed to deliver. Everything about them is automated. My last visit was horrendous. (See earlier review). To make matters worse, they issued me an incorrect bill this month and the only number to call was a 1-800 in which the which the contracted service themselves said Capital Women's should have never issued the incorrect bill in the first place. I had called the Arlington office direct to seek help on the matter but was transferred and sent to a voicemail with no return call. Dealing with my OB GYN shouldn't feel like dealing with a large faceless corporation in which there is no continuity of care and personal service. This office outsources everything! I called the office again today to leave a message to my doctor. Front office wouldn't take it and instead transferred me to the medical assistance line... which again, like their billing office, did not answer. When I immediately called the Arlington office again they had gone to lunch! I literally had her one the phone a minute earlier. Didn't want to take a message because it'd cut into your lunch time at 11:25? Only go to this office if you like dealing with rude front office staff, automated phone systems, and incorrect billing. And the website says the two doctors I've seen here are no longer there. What's going on? I echo one of the reviewers' sentiments below. I'm done here. I was overcharged twice by this place too and had to chase someone down for $40 over a random billing office. It took them two months to get me a check. Why was I overcharged in the first place? I have been a patient of Dr. Hou's for over 20 years and travel quite a distance to use him as my provider. Dr. Hou has made my experience with a OBGYN extremely comfortable while maintaining a professional level during my appointments. He listens patiently and provides excellent advice during my appointments. The staff is attentive to detail and extremely compassionate. Recently moved to the area and had THE single weirdest PAP smear experience I've ever had. First, the doctor laughed (like out loud AT me) while trying to insert a speculum that was too large for me and finally got it together and found a smaller one. Then, she struggled to get the sample and kept having to go back and try again. I'm honestly not confident she did it well or correctly but she was messing around for so long I finally got tired of it and she seemed to give up with her half-a$$ed attempt. Her communication style was also extremely strange - awkward eye contact and zero helpful conversation throughout the process. Hard pass on this place. read more

Very satisfied with the easy going environment from capital Women's care. The entire process from beginning to end was very smooth with caring staff everywhere. Even reception and billing were great! Jan master took care of me. I went in for a basic visit for check up, birth control, and testing. It was great to sit down in her office and spill out everything and ask tons of questions. Most places dont have an office for discussion prior going into the exam room, I really like that about this place. It can be worrisome and intimidating seeing a new person for personal concerns, Jan master did an exceptional job. Jan answered all my questions and made me comfortable. I can tell Jan has a lot of experience in her field. The exam was not uncomfortable at all and I can't thank the staff here enough on their excellent speedy care! read more

I can't express how poor my experience with this practice has been. The doctor patient experience while I was pregnant with my first baby was fine (not great but maybe this transactional and cold approach to care is just what to expect out of an OBGYN), but the worst part of this practice is the fact that they are 100% unresponsive in scheduling and billing. When I was 40+ weeks, I was consistently unable to get through to a doctor and sat on hold for 20+ minutes every time I called. A few times I actually gave up and went in person to sit in the waiting room until I could see a doctor, any doctor, to understand my need for an induction. As a first time mom I did not understand when I needed to go in for an induction, the risks or the benefits and there was no one at CWC to provide this guidance. If you use this practice please make sure you have other care in place - a doula or another doctor you can lean on. They will not help you with any of these questions. Post birth, I have been trying for 7+ months to get a letter from them to be able to use FSA dollars for doula services - a letter from WageWorks that I prepopulated with all the information. I have called over 10 times, sitting on hold for 5-20 minutes each time, have emailed every address I could find and have been repeatedly lied to by every person with whom I come into contact. Ultimately, my FSA dollars expired and I had to pay $800+ out of pocket for critical services during my labor. Was it worth it? Yes. I'm so lucky to be able to afford this out of pocket expense and also LOSING my $800 of FSA. Capital Womens Care, you are a terrible service provider. I would not normally post on Yelp but this is such a terrible experience I feel compelled to warn other women. If you are considering an OBGYN in the Washington, DC area, please consider elsewhere - I would hate for any other mom to be to have to go through this stressful and upsetting experience. read more

Worst experience in my life. The first time I had surgery in my life, I was supposed to remove polyps and insert an IUD to prevent those polyps from coming back. The doctor ( Pranavi Vemuri) didn't respond to any of my calls for two weeks before my surgery; and called me once one day before surgery and left a voice mail with instructions without mentioning anything regarding the IUD. On the surgery day, I was surprised that she wouldn't insert it because she didn't get the IUD. which led me to go another time to the clinic and pay more money to insert the IUD and go through the pain all over again. Also, I communicated that I needed the copper IUD and non of the hormonal ones as I have hormonal imbalances. The doctor didn't discuss it further or mention the name of the brand she was using. After finishing the insertion, I discovered from the card she gave me on my way home that she inserted the hormonal one without respecting or caring about my opinion or medical history. I had to find another doctor to remove it ASAP and go through the pain for the third time for nothing. I contacted the management as soon as possible to report it, and it has been a week, and no one has gotten back to me. I would never go back there. Be aware. read more

She was informative, personable and really took the time to explain. My previous Doctor ,who is no longer practicing, was cold and while she had a wealth of information, she was a terrible listener. First, let me say that I have experienced care from several of the providers at this (Alexandria) and the Falls Church location. I actually started going here years ago for regular well women exams. I discovered that I was pregnant in July of 2016. I was a first time mother and considered high risk because of my advanced maternal age of 36. Individually, the doctors are okay. What I am upset about it my overall level of care. I am writing this review now that I have something in which to compare my experience . First, I told each doctor that I visited that I was pre-diabetic and was concerned about my blood sugar. I even asked if they wanted to see files from my primary care physician. They never did. They offered me a wide range of blood tests because of my age. I accepted all of them, but never really understood the full details of the tests. When I asked, I was told that they were just standard tests. I would ask for copies of the test results and finally get a poor copy at my next appointment. It was very rare that I was given results in between visits. I was only called once the gender/chromosome blood test came back and then I was only told the gender and everything else was "okay". I was never offered a nuchal fold test or any 12 week scan. The nurses always seemed rushed when listening for the heartbeat through the Doppler. I don't think I ever heard a satisfactory heartbeat through the Doppler. I really felt rushed overall. Everything I learned about being pregnant was from the internet. They never told me any do's or don'ts. Nothing. Lastly, I was halfway into my pregnancy and I never gained weight during my pregnancy. Of course it is common to loose during the first trimester, but something seemed off about my second trimester. At 19 weeks + 6 days, I had my anatomy ultrasound and something was apparently wrong. I was told the practice would call me before the day was over because they would probably send me to a specialist. After waiting all morning (because the ultrasound was at 8:30 AM), I called the practice after lunch. I received a call from the doctor who told me over the phone that my pregnancy was not viable. She made arrangements for me to go to the Antenatal Center at Inova Fairfax for more testing. This was a Friday. The Antenatal Center communicated with the office, and arranged for another doctor to perform the surgery to deliver my baby. I never heard back from the practice until the next Thursday - the day before the surgery to delivery of my daughter - almost a week later. I asked the practice to use my cell phone as my main primary line of communication, but they called my house phone and left a message saying "This is Dr. ____ (someone I had never seen) from Capital Women's Care, just letting you know that we are available if you need anything." The Antenatal Center at Inova Fairfax took a lot of blood test the Friday. They even conducted additional tests on my daughter. It was like pulling teeth to get those results. My practice did not even have me come back for a check up. The doctor who did the surgery only spoke to me over the phone to ask me if I was okay. After calling and calling, they finally got the test results back - a month later, I was referred to an IVF center for genetic counseling. It was at that point that I called another doctor's office who had me come in ASAP for a check up. Fast forward, after getting the go ahead to try again, I am pregnant with my rainbow baby and really can tell a difference with the type of care I am receiving. What happened to my daughter was not caused by them, but I do believe that they would have noticed something was wrong sooner if I was given the nuchal fold scan or looked at holistically. I understand that this is a business first, but I put my life and most importantly, the short life of my daughter in their hands. I felt as though they just left me hanging. read more

But I want to say that I have had nothing but professional, thorough, and caring experiences with Dr Nwanko. Also her main nurse, whos name I regretfully forget, is equally as impressive. I have been going to Capital Women's Care since 2018 with my first pregnancy and now I am back with my second. I have always felt confident with the doctors and the receptionist is always super friendly and very helpful. Dr. Natalie Moore has always been the doctor I've been most excited to see. Her bedside manner is very caring and polite. She has always been open to answering all the questions I may have. She delivered me and although the end result was a csection, she reassured me that everything would be okay and kept me calm through the whole surgery. There is no reason to come here if you have a lump in your breast. My wife had one, it took 2 weeks to get an appointment, and then we had to go elsewhere to get imaging and pathology. The other lab in Virginia gave us the results several days before Capitol Women's Care bothered to call us--and during that call they merely asked, "Do you know what the results say?" No advice, no explanations. Meanwhile, we've been forced to drive to Baltimore to get reasonable medical care. It is reasonable to expect some interest in our medical care. These people made us feel like we were garbage. I guess if you don't care about yourself, this place is perfect because that's what you'll get from them. I'm so offended that they even billed our insurance for this terrible care--if you aren't doing anything, don't even make us pay for the opportunity to be in your life for 10 minutes. It's this kind of thing that drags down all of medicine. I apologize for being so negative here, but we didn't get a single thing from coming to this clinic. I can't recommend it to anyone else, either. I'm so offended that I almost expect an apology. Maybe I'll get one, ten years from now... And to the other reviews, I have no idea how you thought these people were (1) smart or (2) competent or (3) good, but for a clinic to request payment for cancellations or medical records production is appropriate in my opinion. Medical offices receive thousands of requests for paperwork every week and it's not easy to process it, costs money to print stuff, staff time, etc. I consider those fees as minimal. And if your entire income is based on an appointment, a cancellation fee is reasonable so you don't get undercut by flaky patients. But what isn't reasonable is not giving $1 worth of good care when patients do come in. read more

All the OBs at Capital Women's Care are great -- I really like the practice (I had been to a few OB offices before getting pregnant looking for the right fit). I LOVE Dr. Kusic. I had seen him once at the office before he delivered my daughter last month. At the office visit he was efficient and thorough with a good bedside manner, and he answered my long list of questions. He also has a good sense of humor, which is always welcome! At the hospital, Dr. Kusic was reassuring and patient through hours of labor. When he saw things weren't progressing, he gave me the option of laboring on a few more hours to see if things would change to avoid a c-section. They didn't, and because my water broke we were on a tight timetable. We ended up doing a c-section, but Dr. K was fantastic -- he calmed me down and was great during and after the surgery. Both of us were healthy after the delivery, and my incision is healing great. Although I wasn't planning on a c-section birth, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. My husband and mom were also both impressed with him throughout the day! Love, love, love. Dr. Michelle Stas is my other favorite. I saw her once when I was in Labor and Delivery at the hospital for a scare earlier in my pregnancy and a few times at the office. She was calming and really knew her stuff, I felt like I was in good hands, despite being very nervous and upset. I've seen all the other doctors as well, and they're also good -- and they deliver at a great hospital (Fairfax Inova). As another poster mentioned on the Fairfax location review, labwork and sonograms are out of house, but I didn't mind that -- they give you plenty of heads up on when those appointments need to happen, so I was able to schedule convenient times for them and they weren't a big deal. I could see how that would make it easier if it was one stop shopping. The doctors in my opinion made up for this! read more

Front office staff were pleasant and very helpful. I didn't have to wait very long and I was called back. I saw Dr. Sara Holmberg and she was nice, cheery and very helpful. It felt like we were old friends! She talked to me first before having me undress. She explained everything - the procedure, the rationale and the plans. Procedure went really well. She was gentle and made me feel at ease (really, who likes being up in stirrups while somebody down there gets up close and personal with your hoo-ha?) As soon as I got dressed we then went back to the office where she discussed the finding, what she thinks and the plan. She did acknowledge that if it is something else, she will refer me out to some other specialists she trusts. Check out was quick, prescriptions were called in and pickle up same day. Needless to say, I requested all my records from the other OB-GYN practice I used to go to. read more

I would give 5 stars but I can't because I know how other capital women's care operate. Since I moved, I figures this would be good transition. Yes they had me in the system and all. But I always judge on the receptionist because they are the face of the business at times. I didn't feel welcomed as a "new" patient at their practice. However, the doctor was caring, listened to my concerns, and asked me to follow up on the phone too. Good thing I'm not pregnant anymore and don't have to come back every month. I've had great experiences with Dr. Picco and Dr. Newman. Both have been extremely courteous and have listened to my concerns--I've never felt rushed. Their nursing staff is a whole different ball game. I had one with Dr. Newman who was fantastic--she actually talked about a number of issues with me and was patient, informative, and helpful. Some of Dr. Picco's nurses though, yikes. I felt like I was annoying them just by being there. The front desk staff has always been nice. Overall, I'm there for the doctors, and I've been happy so far. read more

I have had a change that I couldn't self diagnose so I decided I would self pay and return to the group that had helped the most. Today I was checked by Dr Christine Tran. This is my second office with this practice -- I was a long-time patient of the office in Rockville/Germantown before I moved. When I found out I was pregnant I decided to give this place a try. I have seen all the doctors and haven't had any issues with any, although some of the nurses are less than enthusiastic. However, the front desk staff is superb and I've established relationships with two of the women there. Going to the GYN is usually not fun (unless you're checking on the status of your growing baby) but I've always felt comfortable. I appreciate their honesty, even if it's not what you want to hear. And, when I had to undergo an unplanned c-section, Dr. Gina Hibschman (spelling?) did an amazing job, I had a very minimal scar, and I healed in the standard 8 weeks. I have been going to this practice for a very long time. Never had an issue before i had my Iud inserted. I was told that I would have no issues with this birth control. I understand that everyone's body works different. I didn't stop bleeding for 4 months and never got a break. I made an appointment and was told that was normal and wait another 2 months. So I did just that, well nothing changed other than my blood pressure which i never had a problem with shot up to 190/105. Which was really concerning so in finally had it removed. After removal I bled like i had a miscarriage for nearly 3 weeks. Called the office and the rude receptionists told me to go to the ER. I called to speak to the nurse or the doctor never did they tell me to come in to get examined. They kept telling me to go to the ER so i went and they told me it was normal to bleed like this. I called the office again and they told me to go to the ER again. All i got was a run around as I think they did something wrong and didn't want admit. I will never recommend anyone. read more

We are going to be first time parents and got referred here from another location since we recently moved to the area. We have seen two doctors so far in their style of musical chair practice. The meeting with doctors feel rushed. If you ask them questions, they answer like they really don't want to or you are asking me this kind of expression. Two appointments and two different doctors later, we are just so confused right now. The second doctor we met, Dr. Kusic seems to be caring and smart, but he was kind of off during our appointment. It was a bizarre experience to say the least. When we tried to explain a symptom or the pain using analogy that something was feeling as if it was cut off, he took it literally and kept saying it wasn't going to be cut off and won't fall off (while describing nipple pain). Do you want a doctor who will not listen to your concerns? Once we were done, he walked ahead of us to the front desk and before we even knew, he was gone. I get it you are busy, but do all doctors have the social IQ of a pea? Didn't feel welcome at all. If we had a choice, we would go back to our old doctor 30 miles away or shop for anther practice, but we are so close to delivery that we will be struck with this place. Will update further once we get to meet other doctors and experience with them, but I am sure there are better group of doctors who care for their patients. read more

I had written that I was in and out in 30 minutes. The staff was pleasant and professional all true. However there's is something wrong with their billing system Medicare and Care First cover everything but this time I got a bill for 145 dollars. Talked to a pleasant woman at their office but she really couldn't tell me why so I am going to contact my insurance companies and try to figure this out, I have the time and patience but I know many of you don't. So far so good! Dr. Nunes and staff are great to work with. Ladies at the front desk are very polite and accommodating. During my visits any questions I may have had were answered thoroughly. I recently had an IUD inserted which requires you do that on the first day of your period. Unfortunately aunt flow visited a few days earlier, but Dr. Nunes was able to squeeze me in that same day! While the doctors are amazing...Captial Womens Care is terrible. There is a $25 fee if you cancel an appointment. A $15 fee if you request a copy of your records. They call themselves a "specialist" so they can charge the higher co-pay. No warm fuzzy feeling here. read more

I was a regular patient for years with no problems. In 2008 I was billed for a service that took place an entire year before. I was surprised that it took them a year to bill me. I wrote them a note inquiring as to why it was not covered and why they waited so long to bill me. They responded by turning me over to collections for 167.00. I had perfect credit until they did this. To make matters worse my father was dying during this incident with them . I had always paid my bills in a timely matter and overnight they treated me like street scum and no one took any responsibility. They ruined perfect credit that I worked hard to maintain. Don't upset them because they will turn on you in a second and no one there doctor , nurse or office personnel will help you. They are cold, cruel and heartless. I switched doctors and would not recommend them to my worst enemy. read more
