I LOVED coming to Andersonville Physical Therapy! The owner, front desk clerks and PTs were always so warm and welcoming and made my first experience at physical therapy a positive one! I worked with Gretchen both during pregnancy and postpartum for pelvic floor and core strength. I'm not the most coordinated person, but I feel super comfortable with her directions and guidance (of which I needed PLENTY of!). She was easy to talk to throughout sessions, which made the 45 minutes fly by. I could tell I was getting stronger, but hearing her say it with tangible evidence was the icing on the cake! It's important to note that during the pandemic, I was also able to opt for in-person or virtual sessions, and liked both equally. Having been to conservatively over 10 physical therapy clinics in my life, I would say that this is a good one. It did take a referral to the owner of the clinic to finally figure out what was wrong with my knees but she did help. I am finally seeing relief from knee pain that has persisted for 10+ years and through many many other physical therapists. read more

Writing about medical care on Yelp seems odd to me, and yet, here I go. After dealing with years of neck spasms, back pain, and almost constant discomfort, I've tried almost everything to feel not terrible: muscle relaxers, chiropractor, acupuncture, naprapath, occasional yoga, fists full of Advil, heating pads, Tiger Balm, foam rollers, and physical therapy. My first pass at physical therapy at a major physical therapy chain helped a bit, but a year later, things were worse than ever. I heard Andersonville Physical Therapy was different, that it was better, and gave it a try. The level of care and knowledge provided to me by the team at Andersonville Physical Therapy is truly extraordinary. During my 6-ish weeks of treatment, I saw 3 outstanding therapists, but Annika was my main PT; she is incredible. Today, I have less pain, I'm much stronger, and most importantly: I know WHY I've had such issues in the past. The big-name physical therapy places see what you see: limited mobility & pain, and try to fix it with a mass approach: a heating pad, some exercises on your own, light massage work - it's a machine. Andersonville PT asks why these things are happening to understand the root cause, and then develops a customized treatment plan for you specifically. All exercises are done 1:1 with a PT who watches & corrects your form to make sure the exercises actually help. (Big PT place didn't do this for me!) Through office visits, some shared blog posts, and at home exercises, I finally understand that my upper back & neck issues stem from hyper-mobility, and what that means moving forward. I have a list of exercises and stretches to help correct a flare up with muscle spasms or tightness. Most importantly, I know what I need to do to keep strengthening small but weak muscles to continue to improve, and I know what types of exercises/activities to avoid or modify. Over the years, I've spent a lot of money on massages, chiropractic, acupuncture, and more. 6 weeks of visits at Andersonville Physical Therapy has had more impact than anything I've done. I could not be more grateful for the knowledge they've shared, and the strength Annika helped me build. Unfortunately, I cannot give a positive review. The physical therapists I saw were impatient and frustrated. One wouldn't stop talking, lecturing me about things, prying into my personal life, rather than asking me questions and listening to me. Normally I try not to shop for doctors on Yelp, but they were right in the neighborhood and in my network. But working with the PTs at this office has been great! I went in for chronic neck and shoulder issues that I've had for years. Five weeks in, my tension headaches have decreased, and I've been giving a variety of stretches/exercises to manage my muscle tension. While I didn't mind chain places like ATI seeing 2-3 patients at once, the one-on-one attention at Andersonville is really lovely and makes a difference. I've mostly been working with Annika, but I've also met with Lily and Stephanie. They are all fantastic, and I personally like how each one has a slightly different approach. I really appreciate that the appointments run on time. If you try to book for the following week, sometimes it is a little tricky to find an appointment around my 9-5 job. But they are accommodating with the wait list, and when I book two or more weeks ahead of time I haven't had any issues. From when Phyllis scheduled my body check, to when I met with Mariya Denisenko, you can tell this business cares about their community and wants to make sure they get the best care. Mariya settled my anxiety and answered all my questions, and I walked out feeling not only physically better because she patiently had me perform the stretches, but feeling better in all ways. She gave me a handout that included the changes we made during the consultation, so that I could continue to do the stretches at home. I will go back if I need to address any issues associated with what needed to be addressed during this visit, or if something new should pop up. This is a great place for physical therapy. My wife got an ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair on the same knee. We had been going to physical therapy at Illinois Bone and Joint in Lincolnwood and the therapies were never one on one and the therapist was either in a good mood or bad one. So luckily Andersonville Physical Therapy was close to home. With one session, we already noticed so much of a difference. They explained to her the right way to be walking (3 months at the other place and we didn't even get that direction). They are pushing her a lot and she is getting back her confidence and movement in the knee. Besides having a packed a schedule, which can easily be resolved by scheduling sessions in advanced, I would highly recommend this location for any therapy needs. read more

The team at Andersonville Physical Therapy took in my tired and sore self last September, listened, examined, and worked with me to ensure I understood what ailed me and how I could help ensure that my body healed. I was sent here based on my primary care physicians referral. I walked in with a strained hamstring. The "therapist" diagnosed a back issue. I did the exercise she prescribed and wound up with a lower back in spasms and a left knee walking on jelly. When I complained , I got your issue is "trial and error and experimentation". Trial and error and "experimentation" is good with crash test dummies, but not so great with humans in pain! And it sucks when "trial and error" destroys 8 years with of work hyper-extending knees. When I said "fix the issue you caused" the "therapist" decided to treat my hamstring (the initial problem) instead of the back issue she caused! When I wouldn't agree to more "therapy" from her she couldn't help me and said she needed experimentation to help me. Again, I am to be her crash test dummy? Did she NOT UNDERSTAND I'M NOT a crash test dummy OR her golden goose?!?!?! I walked out the door and will do what I can with the pain as best I can with Motrin until my Primary Care Physician can find me another therapis/tchiropracter/accupuncturistist. read more

I'm currently going to Andersonville Physical Therapy for help with a recent hip replacement. My physical therapist is Pat Staszak ( who is also the owner). She is excellent! Her methods include a combination of traditional physical therapy and Pilate's. I've only had four sessions so far and I'm already noticing some improvement. Not only is my hip getting better, but my left knee, which is very stiff from a knee replacement, is gaining flexibility. She's also helping me with my posture, my gait and showed me the proper way to lace up my walking shoes. I never even knew there was a proper way to lace up walking shoes! Unless you have unrealistic expectations on what physical therapy is, a good therapist will give you a good workout. That doesn't mean excruciating pain, but you should feel it. Pat bends, stretches and pushes you to do your best, standing beside you and cheering you all the way. I would definitely recommend Andersonville Physical Therapy. read more

I support local businesses in the Andersonville Community and thought this would be a great new place, where I would go to weekly for PT. I did give it a chance and attended Physical Therapy for a month, once a week. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good fit for me. It was honestly a waste of my time. In each session, I spent 15 minutes talking to the PT, retelling my health issues and history and reason for being there. After that, the PT would bring me to a mat and show me how to do a stretch and then explain the benefit of "pelvic floor training" for another 15 minutes. After that she would tell me to "rest and take a break", from the one single stretch. I "rested" for 15 minutes as the PT sitting beside me typed notes on her laptop. Then my session was over. Every 45 minute session was consistently the same. That was my experience. I really do hope I'm the only one that had this experience. I spent a year in PT at another facility and it my experience was outstanding. I went to the same facility, well, same name, but different location and saw a different PT. My experience was outstanding again. I'll always be in PT for the rest of my life. Andersonville Physical Therapy was not a fit for me, but it certainly may be a great fit for others. read more

I had a back injury and was given a referral for PT by my physician. I chose Andersonville PT due to proximity to my house and generally good reviews. The initial assessment was great, my therapist did full range/motion measurements and explained in great detail the good news and not so good news. In the end I really understood how my issue occurred and what it was going to take to correct. After the assessment, I worked diligently with my therapist on a variety of techniques to restore my mobility. The thing I appreciate the most is that they are very much focused on my improvement and will try whatever it takes to help correct the problem. From the front desk to the interaction with the therapists, it is all very positive. I'm happy they are in my neighborhood as I choose to spend my money in my hood. I highly recommend since my experience has been exceptional. read more

I had a herniated disc this summer and became quite weak due to the lack of exercise. My chiropractor suggested that I do some physical therapy and recommended the folks at Andersonville Physical Therapy. I worked with Pat, who was awesome. She offered excellent advice in regards to what types of activities I should do at various times throughout my recovery, she was patient and explained the exercises to me until I understood them. (My short term memory is pretty much shot at this point.) She also went above and beyond the call of duty to come out to my car and check my alignment while I was sitting in the driver's seat, so that I wouldn't compromise my back with poor seat position. And when I expressed concern about my bicycle, and whether or not it fit me correctly, she offered to take a look at it, with me on the saddle, to see if it was the right size. The office is very well equipped. They have top-notch equipment and offer pilates classes too. I really enjoyed hanging out on the traction table, and I swear it played a part in my recovery. Some of these other reviewers crack me up. They gave poor reviews because they were late for their appointments? Or because Andersonville P.T. won't take anyone without a physician's referral? Really? That seems a little unfair to me. If you are looking for an excellent physical therapist, give Pat a call. read more

Bad for multiple reasons: 1) Yes, my fault i was running late, but I called and they said they'd take me anyway. My session was cut short by 25 mins, but they charged me for a full hour. While I was there the PT was yapping on the phone for 5 minutes which cut into my time even more. 2) The admin booked me for 2 sessions a week against my request (without me knowing) and charged me for missing a session which I didn't want anyway. 3) After the terrible experience, I decided not to go anymore (they wouldn't cancel the missed session charge even though it wasn't my fault). The PT then "threatened" to tell my physician that I was stopping physical therapy. Give me a break. read more

I had several visits to Andersonville Physical Therapy, they were recommended by my primary care doctor to address intermittent lower back pain. After reading the reviews, I felt comforted that they would be able to relief my back issues permanently. When I started physical therapy I hadn't had any pain or discomfort in four weeks, however once starting therapy each visit caused more and more pain and discomfort. Perhaps part of the issue was they continually misdiagnosed my symptoms, start treating the pain incorrectly and then repeat the diagnostic tests the next visit. All together it seemed rather surprising that by my sixth visit, they still weren't really sure what was wrong. I have since stopped therapy with this organization - their treatment methods created such severe pain and discomfort that it kept me up at night. Since leaving their care, my symptoms have subsided. One additional note, this location is about an hour and half commute from my employer. I took great strides to make it to every appointment on time. I find their "late policy" very one-sided. I understand if appointments occasionally were backed up but this place consistently and regularly started appointments late. This left my scheduled time shortened, perhaps this additional time would have been important in correctly diagnosing and treating my pain. read more

If I wanted to be condescended to from the other side of a laptop screen, I would visit my mother. They had me see 3 of their "therapists" until finally scheduling me with the owner. She was very rude, insulting and REFUSED to listen to me. I would come in and do the SAME exercise every day while she typed on her laptop. She has an amazing power to ignore people. When I told her an exercise was painful in a bad way she would ignore me, so I literally had to pull my hand away or sit up. I wasted a lot of time here. Now I go to Shirley Ryan Ability Lab. They are professionals. Don't waste your time here. read more

What you should know about Andersonville PT is that it is not a quick fix place. They look at your body holistically and you will need to prepare yourself to do the exercises that may seem counter intuitive or not near your center of pain. I wonder if you can find another place in Chicago with therapists who are more conscientious, interested and caring. They treat their profession and people's pain very seriously and are the kind of therapists that are constantly upping their game to learn more about the human body and their clients. Beware problematic billing practices. The very first notification I received from this practice regarding an allegedly outstanding bill was through a collection agency from Ohio. The therapists clearly have my email address because they send me frequent advertising messages. They clearly have my phone number because they've called me on my phone before. I live just blocks away and have for over a decade, so they could have just yelled down the street to me. But, instead of any of those methods of direct communication with me, they sent a collection agency after me. When I called to request more information and understand what options I had to pay the alleged outstanding amount, I was directed towards their billing department. But, their billing department doesn't answer the phone and doesn't return calls. So, if you plan to visit, I'd suggest you really figure out any possible billing issue beforehand. read more

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would! I worked with Lily on a couple issues (back/leg/ankle... essentially a walking mess). She took the time to explain what was going on, answer my questions, and put up with my jokes. I felt that she went above and beyond in helping me with whatever seemed to be bothering me, even if it wasn't what I was actually seeing her for. My pain has gone away, and I have the tools necessary to keep it from coming back. What it all comes down to is that Lily is a physical therapist rock star!!! The entire staff are friendly, knowledgeable, have good senses of humor, and incredibly patient. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Lily or any of the fine folks there if I ever have a problem again. read more

Andersonville Physical Therapy is a great place -- skilled therapists that work as a team, well organized and patient-focused. I spent a little under a year in treatment at Andersonville Physical Therapy, primarily for a herniated disk and some pelvic floor issues. I did the majority of my work with Catherine, with some sessions with Tiffany. They were wonderful. Catherine was resourceful and skilled, and made me feel like any and all questions were welcome. She was flexible with my treatment -- it always seemed very tailored to my specific issues, not at all cookie cutter. She was always positive and straightforward and went the extra mile. While I worked with Tiffany for just a handful of sessions -- wow -- her spinal manipulations really helped my alignment. Towards the end of my treatment I re-injured my back slightly through a fall and the work Tiffany did was hugely important in getting me back to "normal". And, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Matt at the front desk -- unfailingly polite, responsive and resourceful. He also really knows health insurance billing, which can be incredibly confusing. Without a doubt, Andersonville Physical Therapy is a great place to receive treatment. read more

I came to Andersonville with several painful issues - they are all beginning to resolve after a customized exercise and postural correction plan was put into place. This place rocks! Previously, I went to Athletico, and I felt like I was on a conveyor belt. Andersonville Physical Therapy is really small (Ithink there are only 3 PT's there) and they spend the entire time with JUST you. The physical therapists there are really dedicated, and explain everything to you as they are doing it. They are in constant contact with your doctor, and try a number of treatments. I highly reocmmend this intuitive, personally owned and run clinic. I am on my way to pain free walking!! Many therapists and orthos have been discouraging about my spine and basically told me that chronic pain just goes with my condition. Pat is helping me get it together. I am walking straighter and getting stronger. I was referred by several other devotees and have met old friends coming and going. Early hours accomodate my work schedule, and there is no wasted time. Pat (owner and PT-extraordinaire) worked magic on a rotator cuff injury (with biceps tendon and other complications) that I had ignored for over 6 months until I was in continual pain and had almost no range of motion. At our initial session, things seemed so bad that she admitted I might have to have surgery . . . but to try and avoid that, we started a combination of therapeutic approaches -- including exercises (at the PT sessions and at home), and serious massage/manipulation of the shoulder joint, followed by icing (as in ice-pack, not birthday cake). I felt somewhat beat-up the first time or two, but it was clearly working and within about 6 sessions I was 90% back to normal. Pat has a compassionate yet businesslike approach, and clearly knows her stuff. If I ever need physical therapy again, this is where I'll go. read more

I prefer a privately owned business where medical care is different from a corporate medical chain. After a fall, the MD recommended physical therapy for my knee. I was aware of Andersonville Physical Therapy because a relative had gone there and also because it is right near the Jewel I go to. On my first visit, which was an assessment, I was kinda bummed because i saw flyers about yoga and pregnancy...And, I am definitely not a yoga type or pregnant(or post pregnant) type of person. But, I came back for my second visit, and, in fact, all my visits. Lily was my therapist, and she is absolutely great! Each visit, she pushed me more. With a combination of Lily's work plus the home exercises she gave me, I almost immediately felt better. What I really liked about Lily is that there was one home exercise that I hated. I told this to Lily and she replaced it with another home exercise. She listened to me, found another way to deal with my injury and I am feeling much better. Valerie is the front desk person and she was very helpful in scheduling my appointments and also with my insurance. I highly recommend Andersonville Physical Therapy Everyone is prompt, skilled and very friendly. Also, something can be said about doing business locally. read more

I came here to get dry needling therapy for myofascial pain syndrome my doc diagnosed after I suffered an injury last year. I've been seeing Sean Hassett who is amazing. Andersonville Physical Therapy is the only place I would ever recommend anyone go if they need outstanding physical therapy. From Valerie at the front desk to to the PTs, Lily, Stephanie and Pat, the staff is friendly, caring and most importantly highly skilled in their practice. Their one-on-one approach is superior to any other PT place I've ever been-truly there is no comparison. I had two knees replaced (one in January, the other in May) and worked with primarily Stephanie and/or Lily for eight months. During that time, I received therapy that was not only physically helpful, I received encouragement and positive feedback that motivated me to work hard to attain the goals my doctor and the physical therapists had set for me. The PTs instruction, along with the pilates equipment, music and positive climate made it easy for me to want to come to Andersonville- infact even though I was in pain, this place was my refuge to work out that pain. I can't say enough about Andersonville, it's the way physical therapy ought to be everywhere. I would recommend making your appointments as early as possible, but Valerie works very hard to fit you in when she can or puts you on a waiting list that actually is real and works- every time I was put on the wait list, I always got in!!! I broke my ankle in late 2012 and began physical therapy in January 2013, i.e. my experience is very current. I chose APT, as 3 separate friends and neighbors recommended I go there, and went twice a week through May 2013. My expectations were very high, and my treatment totally lived up to my expectations! What I completely appreciated was that, when I was with the PT, I was the only one in her care at the time. We worked together on my treatment and tried many different exercises. I owe my fabulous progress to my PTs professional care, and though I'm thrilled that I've moved on, I miss the friendly, professional, and caring atmosphere on my weekly visits at the clinic. read more

I have had to have many operations and as a result I have had a lot of PT. I have gone to every major PT in the area and now I will never go anywhere except Andersonville PT. Your PT works with you directly for the full 45 minutes. At other places you are handed off to an assistant who sometimes directs you to do exercises differently than your PT. The attention that you get at Andersonville PT along with the extensive knowledge is unsurpassed. The staff works as a team and it is not uncommon for a PT to suggest that another PT take part in your therapy when another skill set will help. I have seen real changes in chronic pain. I am unreserved in recommending Andersonville PT. I travel to get my care here because of the difference in the care that I receive. read more

Wonderful service. After years of MD's telling me I have incurable chronic pelvic pain with no apparent cause (one even said I was 'lucky' to only have to undergo routine surgical procedures) I've gone to Andersonville PT only twice and am already seeing results, pain relief, realignment, and overall strengthening. A specialist just told me she would come in on a weekend in order to give me optimal treatment in conjunction with a second visiting specialist. The front desk staff are very prompt and helpful. Also, they take more insurance than most PT providers (sad but true, that's what brought me to them in the first place). After ACL Reconstruction Surgery last year, I went to a large physical therapy practice with many branches throughout the suburbs and city for follow up therapy on my knee. I spent 3 months in physical therapy and was given the green light to move forward. I want to share that while I rec'd adequate and professional services, my knee continued to bother me. I didn't want to sign up for additional physical therapy at the chain as I wasn't sure much more could be done and settled into the fact that I would have to live with the knee pain moving forward. 3 months later, at the suggestion of my personal trainer, I decided to give Physical Therapy a second try. My trainer shared that Pat Staszak, the owner Andersonville Physical Therapy had helped her regain her strength as a result of injuries sustained from a car accident. The trainer shared that Pat was perhaps the most brilliant PT in the business and attributed her recovery to the work she did with Pat. I called Andersonvile Physical Therapy and made an appointment. It was an easy process and I scheduled my first session with Pat for a week and a half out. My first few sessions with Pat were phenomenal. She did a thorough assessment of my knee, the way I walked and biked and was able to determine ways in which my natural gait (both walking and running) contributed to my ACL being torn. We spent the next 6 weeks focusing on exercises that I did at home which helped me to strengthen not only my knee but my entire leg. Pat's assessment also determined that I needed to be wearing orthotics and that my flat feet along with the way I stand/walk/run contributed to the ACL tear. She made custom fit orthotics and I've been wearing them every day since I got them back from the Lab. AND, here's the brilliant thing - I'm not in pain anymore. I've been practicing walking the way Pat taught me, doing my exercises and wearing the orthotics and it's working. My knee pain and plantar fasciitis pain I've had for nearly 10 years has disappeared. I have gotten my confidence back and look forward to making athletics a regular part of my life again. I owe so much to Pat and her team. I would recommend Andersonville Physical Therapy to everyone and wish I had known about their services earlier.
