It's been three months since I finished my PT at Muscle and Joint Physical Therapy. Curtis Burds was my therapist. He designed a treatment plan and schedule that truly worked. I do the exercises he taught me about five or more days a week. It wasn't necessary to take all the prescribed sessions. I hope nothing else falls apart but if it does this is my PT place. The place has a good vibe and the billing department is easy to work with as well. Muscle & Joint Physical Therapy is the place to go! I was introduced to Muscle & Joint Physical Therapy from my husband. I quickly setup an appointment because I was struggling with hand, forearm, and leg pain. It was kind of like going to the mechanic and you finding out more stuff is wrong as you dive deeper into the initial issue you came in for. From my first session to my last the staff was so friendly and motivational. I was obviously scared that I waited too long to get my issues addressed but they reassured me that I could improve if I put in the work during my sessions and outside of them. I primarily worked with Max but I worked with a few others if my visit time didn't coincide with his schedule but 80% of my sessions were with him. I would highly recommend Max! He helped me realize a lot of my issues were due to me needing to gain strength and he taught me so many exercises I could do on my own. I really like that Muscle & Joint Physical Therapy tries to ensure you stay working with your primary therapist. It felt less like I was just my insurance number and more like a valued client. He remembered things from our last conversation and I was able to build on my treatment plan because I didn't have to explain my issues to a new person each time. I worked with Muscle & Joint Physical Therapy for a little over a month and a half before l graduated from needing to go to the facility. I left the facility feeling so much more confident and educated on my body. I truly cannot remember the last time I had leg and foot pain (unfortunately the pain temporarily moved to my foot when I increased my workout). My hand pain is minimal and slowly disappearing the stronger I get. I highly recommend checking out Muscle & Joint Physical Therapy. Even if you have small pain it really helps getting an expert to look at it. I literally had a 20-30 weight difference that I could handle between my left hand and right hand before I sought out help! read more

I have suffered with severe upper to middle back pain for over 15 years. Needless to say, I've been through A LOT of PT for it. It never helped. In fact, when my doctor brought up doing another round of PT this past August, I was dead set against it. He said he'd worked with Muscle and Joint, and said I should give them a try before ruling PT out. Reluctantly, I made an appointment, expecting it to be more of the same bad experiences. Imagine my surprise when I was dead wrong. A lot of the credit has to go to my INCREDIBLE physical therapist, Dr. Brandon St. Peters. I cannot sing his praises loudly enough. This may sound silly, but Brandon actually listens to his patients. It was obvious from the first session that Brandon cares about his patient's needs, and helping them make progress with their pain. This is incredibly important when you present with an unusual or rare case. A lot of the times you've been to so many other practitioners who have ignored you and your symptoms, offering no help for your pain. Feeling heard makes you feel like the pain isn't just in your head, and that can be a game changer. Brandon makes you feel that way day one. It's clear he also really knows his stuff, and almost every time, I leave the clinic feeling better than I did walking in. He even helped me (finally!) get the proper diagnosis, and a great pain management specialist to help me. I could go on and on, but seriously he's the best of the best in the field, and even makes sessions fun. That being said, the rest of the staff and clinic are also wonderful. I did two sessions with the owner, Matt Johnson, while Brandon was out of town. He also really knows his stuff. The assistants they have there are absolutely wonderful. One assistant I believe named Taylor (hopefully that's correct) is an absolutely joy every single week. She's definitely an asset to the clinic, and has a bright future ahead of her in PT. The front desk is always super helpful dealing with appointments, insurance, and such, which is no small task. Lastly, the clinic is nice and spacious, and always super clean. Easily the best facility I've been to. So, if you're in need of physical therapy, do not hesitate. RUN to Muscle and Joint. If you're so inclined, ask for Brandon. Just do me a favor. I've been blessed with assistance from many excellent PTs over the last few years. Honestly, I've found more progress with PTs than doctors and I'd guess many others would agree. That said, Sarah Llorens of Muscle & Joint PT set a high bar of empathy and constructive motivation, something I most importantly needed. Sarah listens to your needs and responds with a thoroughness of understanding few doctors have attained. I so appreciate her ability to challenge the goals needed with a presence that is both direct yet patient. An unique skill indeed! I also have to give an additional shout out to the entire staff-- They keep you on track with compassion, concern, and where appropriate, humor. i doubt you can get better PT anywhere in Chicago. Dear friends steered me here rather than the other place I had gone too that was actually more convenient! It's worth the slightly longer trip. The facility is large and open, the staff are uniformly cordial and they offer all kinds of modalities for many infirmities. I work with Curtis and he's terrific - kind and knowledgeable. My rotator cuff repair is healing well and my mobility gets better every week! Highly recommended. read more

I initially found Muscle & Joint PT from Yelp because I needed a place that did dry needling and it popped up highly rated. I had been to a few other places in the city first without much success in solving my issues. The other reviews are accurate and I've been here many times for not only dry needling, but also a gait analysis and general PT treatment. I've seen a few PT's on staff and all have been knowledgeable and helpful. The gait analysis I had with Alex was really insightful to what I needed to work on in my off season from marathon training. If you are an active person, especially a runner, and are having some pain, come here and get it taken care of. You won't regret it! read more

The Muscle and Joint team are the absolute best -- no one is even close. I've seen several physical therapists in different cities over the years, but Matt and his team are the top by a long shot. I've followed Matt to a few different clinics now, and he's been an absolute rock star in getting me back on my feet each time -- he even has a doctorate, and not many PTs can say that. I've worked with Alex and Carson too, and they are absolutely fantastic. The entire team really take the time to understand your ailments but then they go a level deeper to try to figure out the root cause. I've also had more than one physician at Northwestern independently recommend them as "the best in town," without knowing that I had seen them in the past -- so their reputation in the medical community is about as good as it gets. Love the beautiful new facility, and they also took COVID-19 protocols very seriously too, which was great at the height of the pandemic. Highly recommend, it's very spacious, and clean. Staffs are very friendly, I worked with Alex. Initially went in because of a fell and was having issue moving my leg, was able to walk after my first session. Followed her instructions and did the stretches at home and was able to squat after about 2 weeks. Pretty much pain free after 3 weeks. So I kept going for some other issues I've been having like neck and shoulder pain which all has significant improvement :D They also have cupping and dry needling, kind of an all-in-one facility. Honestly PT is always the most fun thing to do, but its one of those necessary evils. Dr. Alex has been my PT for years now, she first treated my back, shoulders and wrist. I recently tore my achilles and moved out to CA. I knew I wanted to get her opinion and expertise on my situation. She is so thoughtful and caring. I've been having problems with TMJ for years and decided to see if PT would help. Jaw problems can be tough because not every PT knows techniques to improve them, however Matt specialized in TMJ/jaw issues and I didn't even need a doctor referral. I was impressed right off the bat during my first consultation. Matt is super knowledgeable and great at explaining why you have a certain pain or tightness. He specializes in a technique called dry needling which uses a fine needle to get knots out of muscles. He used it on muscles deep in my jaw and in my shoulder along with stretching and giving me strength exercises for my jaw, neck, and shoulders. It's improved my jaw pain, stiffness, and headaches so much, it's been such a relief. On top of all that, he's a really nice guy and spends a lot of time working with each person. He has a beautiful, new facility and a friendly staff. He has everyone follow covid precautions with masks and cleaning equipment in between uses. I highly recommend coming here. read more

My doctor recommended Matt, saying several patients had great results with him. He knows his stuff! I've had some tenacious alignment issues that caused a lot of injuries over the years. It feels like I'm making real progress in a remarkably short time. They also set up a care plan with videos you can watch on a website or app to do exercises at home. If something is different from the videos to address one of my specific injuries, he gives me a printout with written notes so I have the right information. I appreciate how good they are about showing you what they're going to be working with, so I always know what to expect -- which is so important when one has stress from pain or injury. I've been here twice, once this past summer with Matt to treat a neck injury I endured two years prior, and most recently with Alex to treat a wrist injury. They both were great and very attentive, patient, and helpful in educating me on how the treatment would work in getting back to shape. MJ PT has been the best clinic I have ever been to. Everyone there is dedicated to getting you back to 100%. There is not a more fun and caring environment for PT in the city. I went to MJPT once a week for a few weeks to help relieve ankle pain that had been lingering on and off for more than a year at that point. They gave me some cupping and massage treatment and had me do various exercises to strengthen my foot and ankle. Since my ankle pain was caused by my running regimen they also had me run for them so they could analyze my form. After about a month it was clear what needed to be fixed in my running form. Now it's been about another month and a half and I'm slowly increasing my mileage and my ankle hasn't been hurting while I run. I still do the exercises they taught me to this day. I was referred to Matt by my (highly respected) orthopedist after having hip surgery. Initially I was hesitant since this clinic is not part of a large chain, but any concerns were quickly dispelled.The facility is meticulous, clean, and well run. Appointment making is easy and the clinic has always been able to accommodate my ever-changing schedule. Everyone is pleasant, professional and engaging, but Matt especially is a class act.
