I'll admit I was a bit hesitant at first after seeing multiple Piano Piano locations on Google -- I tend to be cautious with chains. But this visit turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The mushroom cavatelli stood out immediately. You could smell the mushrooms as soon as the dish arrived -- rich, earthy, and well balanced without feeling heavy. A great choice if you enjoy mushroom-forward flavors. For pizza, we went with the Beacon Alfredo based on our server's recommendation. It ended up being one of the highlights. The bacon added a nice crispness, and while I'm not usually a fan of caramelized onions, it worked better than expected. The burrata was my first time trying it in a restaurant setting, and it was more approachable than I expected. Paired with roasted grapes, it was a simple but enjoyable combination -- though I do wish it had been a bit easier to share. The Caesar salad was well executed but leaned slightly on the salty side. We were here for lunch and had their Winterlicious menu and noticed that their regular lunch menu is similarly priced. We had the following: - Prosciutto di San Daniele; covered in cheese shavings, a nice kick with the chili, sweet grapes that really work well together with the prosciutto, not salty at all, very refreshing - Ricotta Cheese on Foccacia; light and topped with roasted crunchy seeds, rosemary and chili, well balanced - Canestri alla Vodka; meaty, saucy and hearty, not hungry after this meal - Egg Yolk Ravioli; two large raviolis filled to the brim with two bread slices to mop up the brown butter - Nutella Tiramisu; pretty standard with a lot of Nutella, not much cake though, but if you are a pudding/filling lover, this is basically all cream - 6 Layer Carrot Cake; good ginger spice in the cream, the carrot cake is topped with some crunchy bits and served with a soft served cone (upside down) Overall, we loved all the food and the flavors were well balanced. The portions were great and very filling. The vibe of the place is casual modern and had the right amount of lighting. Staff was very attentive and got the food out in courses. Everything was well timed. This location can seat around 20+ bar seating, 60+ bench/table seating. They have special menu items at the table and 8+ party option for a family style shareable option. The basement event space (the Cantina) is also bookable via their website for private events and have another 40 capacity. Highly recommended as with their vegetarian options and pizza toppings, it really covers most people's cravings and food preferences. My partner and I went here for the Winterlicious lunch menu and it was super delicious and so so so filling. The portions were really substantial, the pasta was el dente and the flavours were well balanced. I find sometimes when you order ravioli, you never feel like you have enough, but this was definitely not the case here. We got 2 huge ravioli with lots of warm toasted focaccia to soak up the beautiful yolk. We were also pleasantly surprised with the carrot cake which was drizzled with a ginger anglaise and topped with a delicious vanilla soft sever and cone. The cake itself was super moist and well spiced. I would actually recommend this over the tiramisu. Our server was very attentive and the food all came out at a very nice pace. The restaurant itself is very spacious and nicely decorated. Definitely a perfect place for a romantic dinner or gathering with friends. Their menu also has a lunch special for $39 which is honestly comparable to the Winterlicious price. We definitely would come back and try some other stuff on their menu. Let me just start with the food. It is just simply delicious. The service was impeccable and the ambience is terrific. We were going right next-door to the Paradise theater so it was the perfect place to have dinner. I had Caesar salad - perfectly dressed with crisp pork belly and gorgeous focaccia croutons. Nova Scotia lobster pasta - lots of chunks of delicate lobster ina light tomato cream sauce. The ambience and interior inside Piano Piano is stunning. However, the food was not good. Arancini balls had unmelted cheese inside and was soggy. Cacio pepe tasted like bland mac and cheese. Chicken parm and Ceasar salad had unneccesarily huge chunks of bacon like 3 inches long instead of being chopped up. The huge bacon ruined the meals and the chicken parm and salad tasted like smoky bacon. The only thing that was decent was the Tiramisu. On top of that, the waitress was telling us not to take pictures inside the restaurant which was annoying. Not going back. read more

We planned our date night and since we were a large group, we had to do the family special. Let me tell you, I was skeptical about the portions, but wow! There was so much food and each dish was delicious! Each course was delightful and with a distinct flavour palate. I've attached the menu so you can see the list! A diamond in the rough, this restaurant opens up to a beautiful space! Nestled in a super shabby, run down area that they are effortfully trying to gentrify....the potential is there. Never been to Piano Piano so when my client suggested it for lunch, I took a look at the menu online and was looking forward to a good meal. It is a small restaurant with interesting decor and ambiance. Server was exceptional offering suggestions and guidance from the menu. We ordered the bone in veal parm, caesar salad and mushroom pasta. The salad was exceptional offering filets of anchovies, braised pork and a sharp dressing. Best caesar salad I have ever had. The mushroom pasta had truffle oil so the flavours were very strong. The bone in veal was amazing, with great portions size and features cured ham under the layers of cheese and sauce. The meal was not just good but exceptional. There is a premium to be paid, but then fair portion size and great flavours were worth the money. This is my third time eating here. The first time I thought the food was amazing. The second time it was alright and well this time I'm questioning everything. Was this place really that good? The taste of everything was just disappointing, the quality wasn't great as well. The roasted mushroom salad sounded delicious. It was completely gross. The texture and overall taste was not palatable. I didn't finish it. Now the pasta. The sauce was so thick and clumpy and the taste was ok. I ate the pasta but it really wasn't the taste I expected. The pasta overall wasn't disappointing but it just wasn't the best. The pasta was cooked properly which was a plus! I didn't finish this as well. The Nutella tiramisu. This was a huge disappointment. It did not taste like nutella. There was this chalky taste to it, not sweet. Just chalky. Overall, it was ok. I don't think I'll be back. I keep trying to re-live that first experience where I thought the food was amazing but sadly every single re-visit gets more and more disappointing. read more

My friends and I went here for winterlicious and we were very pleased with the experience! The decor and lighting give off a romantic and intimate vibe yet inviting due to the open space concept. The service was good. And lastly, the food was delicious and a generous portion! I got their special cocktail (72 and sunny) - earthy yet refreshing. The appetizer (burrata al campagnolo) was my favourite - the bread was toasted to perfection! The roasted grapes, garlic, and cheese combo was pure delight and there was mouthgasm with each bite. The food service was a little slow (by American standards) but the bartender Alex keep the drinks flowing and we had fun. Alex made an off menu cocktail with rose water, gin and Elderflower liquor that was fantastic. The children piccata was two large breasts with salad on top and delicious. Enough for two persons. The Fun Guy mushroom pizza was excellent. Rich, very cheesy and a nice chewy wood fired dough (900 degrees style). The carrot cake was a huge piece more than enough for two persons and had a waffle cone with vanilla ice cream on it. Finally checked off this restaurant after many years. I heard many things about their egg yolk ravioli, and maybe I was expecting too much? I visited for lunch during their winterlicious promo, which comes with an appetizer, pasta or pizza & dessert. My friend and I ordered different items so we can try many dishes. We started with Burrata Con Funghi & calamari, both really good, burrata was light and refreshing and the Calamari was perfect. Moving to the 2nd course we got the egg yolk ravioli and sweet hornet pizza; sweet and savoury pizza was on point. The egg yolk pasta was somewhat healthy and not as heavy as it looked, but def too much for one person. I found a piece of plastic in the ravioli right when the server was checking in on us ... she handled it well by offering to send dish back/ adjusting bill. Lastly, we were too full for dessert and decided to do take out Nutella tiramisu; not too sweet and didn't taste the Nutella. I made a last-minute reservation for a weekend night, and it was a pretty good visit. We had a great and isolated spot to ourselves by the window, and overall, we just had a lovely time. Our server was so considerate and attentive (always checking if we needed more wine), and our meals were fantastic. The only downfall was we waited quite some time for our main dishes, it was almost an hour later when it arrived. Once the entrees reached our table, they were just great. I have been looking forward to trying this place since I first passed by its chic painted exterior. The interior is even more contemporary than the outside, the walls are all beautifully designed with a different theme. The bar had this curved wall feature that extended to the ceiling, wow! This immediately set the expectations high for some nicely plated food. My one issue is with the menu, it was designed to look like a newspaper and made the items rather difficult to find, they were also quite beat up and ripped. Thankfully the food was not as raggedy as their menu. Burrata Con Funghi The burrata was amazing! It is one of my favourite cheese: not funky, tough on the outside, soft on the inside (just like me). The creaminess of the burrata enhanced the flavour surround it: the balsamic, olive oil, garlic and hazelnuts, mmmmm. There was also a good blend of textures: cheese, nuts, bread. The focaccia, was also amazing. Light fluffy and crispy on the outside, can't wait to come back for some more bread. Would recommend this dish. Egg Yolk Ravioli Was intrigued by the egg yolk ravioli from all the reviews here. How do they cook the ravioli without fully cooking the egg yolk? Careful attention must be paid to cooking the ravioli, especially with a shallow pot of water. The stuffing was heavy especially with the brown butter on it. Most of the ravioli was cooked, only the edges were undercooked. Nice to try, but I would not recommend especially if you don't like heavy foods. On the plus side, got some more focaccia to soak up that brown butter goodness. Roasted Sea Bass I thought there was only one way to eat sea bass (steamed) until I had this. They grilled and seasoned this fish to perfection. Bonus, served with some clams with basil and some tomato sauce. Fish was cooked just right, not over cooked. Skin was not charred but crispy well done. Would recommend. Piano Piano Spritz A welcome, refreshing drink. A bit sour for my liking. Would recommend to begin the meal, but not during the meal. This is my first time here at this location and attended for a work social. We made reservations but still had to wait 30 mins for our table, apparently, they guests before us wouldn't leave! We had a set menu and had to meet a minimum spend. I have to say that they were not great at accommodating for dietary restrictions. I am not vegan but someone was and they had extremely limited options. As for the food, overall it was decent but nothing spetacular. I did see the staff haul in some of their frozen pizzas, which I assume was to heat up and not made fresh at this location. I do have to applaud their octopus dish, it was tend and flavourful! Their zero proof drink options (2 decent ones) were also limited which was surprising because a few of us wanted to try other zero proof cocktails. I would probably skip this place if you're looking for authentic Italian; you will not get there here. read more

I really loved Piccolo Piano Pizzeria! Located near its sister Piano Piano (which proved to become my favorite restaurant in Toronto), you'll recognize it immediately from its beautiful exterior. Piccolo piano has snacks, wood fired pizzas and small plates. It was still fairly new when I visited which meant I couldn't find a lot on them initially, but I'm still so glad I went. I could not believe I was the first person to add them to Yelp! They are so special and inviting. The basic pepperoni was excellent. Great color, flavor, and good crust. Decided to give Piano Piano a try with their lunch special! Comes with an App, a choice of pizza/pasta & a dessert for $34, it was a steal! Considering one pasta dish is about $26 Anyways, we enjoyed the prosciutto. Parts of the calamari were too salty imo. Then the Alla vodka pasta & mushroom pasta, vodka was really good but the mushroom was again, salty. Followed by the dessert, the tiramisu was decent, & the chocolate caramel was an extra $5. As for the service, it started off well. But before we were even done with dessert, the server just place the bill on the table & it wasn't even time to leave yet. Isn't the normal thing to do is to ask if we would like the bill first? Regardless, I brushed it off & asked for a separate bill. I went here for my friend's birthday and we shared 4 dishes and one birthday dessert: Calamari $12 - I did like the crispy texture and soft calamari piece inside the breading. The dipping sauce was fine as well but I overall found this appetizer salty. Burrata with Roasted Grapes $19 - the burrata needed some more seasoning/salt or olive oil/balsamic maybe? It was very bland on its own or with the bread. The only thing that made it better were the roasted grapes. It brought sweetness to the dish and saved it by adding more flavour. An interesting combination that I've never thought of since I'm used to eating it with tomatoes! Egg Yolk Ravioli $26 - I was very disappointed in this dish because it was the most anticipated one for my friend and I! Honestly the pieces came bigger than expected compared to the photos I saw online, but it was not worth $26+tax for this dish because it wasn't very filling for me in my opinion. We were also expecting the egg yolk to be runny but it was overcooked which made the ravioli itself a little dry. It was also salty and I found myself drinking a lot of water that night. Mushroom Truffle Cavatelli $26 - I normally like my pasta dishes al dente, but the pasta noodles were more firmer than that. This dish would be much better if the pasta was cooked a little longer. Sauce was decent, but could use a little more mushrooms for $26... Dessert: Tiramisu $12 - tasted mediocre. I'd say store bought tiramisu is the same or maybe better. Overall - dishes were either bland or too salty. Not worth the price point. I rather spend this money at better Italian restaurants. Service was wonderful though! It's cozy and comfortable, full of friendly people, and the service is quick (almost *too* quick...like they want us to get up and get out asap). My friend and I sat at the bar, and the bartender was great; we also had a couple of wines from a great wine list. Very knowledgeable bartender. I had this amazing ravioli in beef ragu sauce, and my friend had the gnocchi - rich with browned butter. I love the pizza at this place. We went for dinner and it was the summerlicious so we ordered tuna for appetizer, fungi pizza for main and Nutella tiramisu for dessert. The pizza was amazing. I do like the doughiness of the pizza. I also ordered a extra dish of some kind of fish ravioli. Sorry I forgot the name and I didn't take a picture of the menu. But I did get pictures of the food!!!! The service was ... okay. It was slow. Took a while for us to get the food, but the staff were very nice and amazing.
