I bought a Steinway &Sons 1098 upright piano from Dennis. I used eBay because I needed some seance of security considering I am in California is and the piano was in New York. I called and spoke with Dennis and learned Amit about pianos just speaking with him. I have wanted a Steinway ever since I was in college many years ago. The piano arrived about six weeks later in excellent condition. I had a qualified piano technician come and tune it. He told me the pins and strings were new. He tuned my piano and played it had and showed me how my piano was built and strong as a work horse. He said because of the new strings I would need to tune my piano another two or three times within the next year because the strings are settling. Although it has a nice sound, its age and life with many kids and a dog, make it look pretty beat up. We are in possession of a 94 year old Kanabe baby grand. Even though the sound is great the wood is drying out obviously. Dennis has restored the keyboard and keep the piano going. He realistically let us know that pins need to be replaced but doesn't pressure us to invest more money into it. He makes it sound like a Steinway once it is tuned. Eventually, we will have him do more extensive work on the piano but for now we are more than satisfied. Nightmare. I sent him the address. Then he contacted me AGAIN to find out the address. I told him address. Then day of appointment he was late and still needed address again. He spent most of the time on the phone and refused to do simple fixes to the piano. Was not polite or pleasant. Will NEVER use again. Found someone else on recommendation named Dan who came next day ON TIME no problems. Very polite and fixed the 2 minor problems the 1st guy could've/shouldve fixed in 2 minutes flat but simply couldnt be bothered to do. Dan also retuned the piano who he said was very special after this guy basically said it was a waste of an instrument. Very insulting. And if piano had to be retuned after he left, obviously doesnt even know what he's doing or at least couldnt be bothered the day he came to our home. Wouldn't wish him on yours. Best store and workshop we've seen for beautifully and perfectly restored fine pianos. We purchased an impeccably restored 1927 Mason & Hamlin, after trying the many pianos in Denis Pereca's gallery. Dennis is a true craftsman and musician, and it was a breath of fresh air to be shown fine instruments by a real technician rather than a piano salesman. Pianotek easily had the largest selection of fine grands on Long Island. The big piano stores had more instruments, but most of the stock was of poor quality or over-priced.
