When I returned to pick up the guitar, I brought the quoted amount in cash. At that point, I was told I needed to pay an additional $20 for tax, which was added on top of the original quote. While I understand that sales tax is standard, it would have been helpful to know upfront that the quoted price did not include tax--especially since the majority of the cost was labor. The quality of the work itself was good, and I have no complaints about the actual repair. However, the unexpected additional charge left a negative impression. Clear, all-inclusive estimates go a long way toward building trust and keeping customers returning.

I'm glad I listened to my intuition because when I looked up, I saw a sign.. literally. In red and white letters it read "NY Music Garage" and below it a window decal which exclaimed "A Different Kind of Music Store." As soon as I walked in it was clear that those words were true. I was immediately greeted with a warm welcome. I had initially planned to just scope out their collection and perhaps jam, while getting to know the store, but with so many affordable goodies around, I just had to shop. The awesome fellas there helped me pick up a perfectly fitting guitar slide, a strap lock and even a homemade guitar-shaped cutting board!! It's made of walnut, shaped like a Les Paul and sealed in food-grade sealant... how cool is that?! They even had two other variations, a tele and and a strat. After all that shopping, I was ready to try some guitars. They kindly guided me to a private practice room, which had plenty of space to move around, several fun amps and phenomenal acoustics. Looking around the store, it was clear they carried an awesome collection of new, used and vintage axes... all at fair & reasonable prices too! Joan is clearly a master of her craft with tons of experience. She patiently answered my 10 billion questions about new piano ownership, and even took a lot of time to research specifics that were applicable to my piano, since it's a hybrid acoustic piano/digital "silent" piano. She also offered reasonable, practical, solutions and options to ensure optimal maintenance, for instance with maintaining ideal humidity levels in my home as well as potentially installing humidity controllers within the piano.
