well this place has been here forever, which is not a bad thing...i think i visited it about 30 years ago....so a new visit for lunch recently...bigger than it looks with a bar and some seating area and then around to the back is a larger restaurant area...sort of dark and old looking but clean and neat...service was pleasant...drink was great and as ordered... i had buffalo chicken pizza which was very good, date had the logger or lumberjack, a roast beef sandwich which was generous and would have been great, but the meat was actually chilled (come on!) so the sandwich lost most of it's appeal...nice place though, worth a visit and looks like it gets a lot of good reviews!!! read more

We found this place by happy accident and will now be a go to for a nice summer night ride for Amazing food. I was craving fish and chips and they didn't disappoint. This ain't fine dining--more of a dive bar with surprisingly serviceable food. I've visited three times, had a burger all three, and all three times have been satisfied. Grilled beef, ordered medium rare, and despite lack of pink, it's come out juicy and quite tasty each time. Buttered/toasted roll. Mediocre fries, very good onion rings. Understated but adequate service. Almost certainly a 3.5 if half-stars were used, but they get the 4 because they're one of the better ones in this particular area. read more

If you've read my reviews, you know that I have a 25% success rate using a Groupon, meaning 75% of the establishments that offer them do so because they suck. Piccolino's is in that 25% group! In fact, after eating there yesterday I went home and bought another Groupon for future use...a first for me. We sat at the bar and got prompt, friendly service from the bartender. The draft beer was cold and fresh, and the food was delicious (hawg wings -- fall off the bone bbq pork legs, and bacon pizza.) I pride myself in knowing where the neighborhood, "everyone knows your name" bars are in Central MA, but somehow I missed this place. As I said, it was such a pleasant experience that I am looking forward to returning in the near future. read more

Had a business lunch here and was very impressed. I ordered the seafood chowder and the small antipasto salad. The chowder was packed with seafood in a "low flour" broth. The small salad was huge and they used local lettuce. The service was attentive and very friendly. The interior was very clean as well. Pretty good beer selection. Very friendly , good service. However we won't be back to this restaurant. I ordered chicken picatta and when it arrived I cut into the chicken it was not cooked all the way thru. The waitress took it back to the kitchen and when it returned the chicken was overcooked on the outside and still under cooked on the inside. Talk about "off my radar." We had been living in the next town over for 20 years and never heard of Piccolino's until a neighbor who is a fan told us about it. Shirley's not exactly known for dining and the only place I could think where it could be was the old Shirley Club so I was not hopeful. It was a bit tricky finding it but we eventually located it on the other side of main street. so Shirley has TWO restaurants; who knew! The front room as you enter is "old-fashioned bar&grill": dingy furniture, neon beer signs, lots of tvs tuned to sports; not appealing. But the back room was better: still dingy, with stained carpets and dark wood but away from the tvs, and normal height seats and tables rather than bar height. The menu is quite large: burgers, steaks, salads, a several Italian specialties, pizzas, and a large number of seafood items. Good beer selection I think (I'm not a fan), and a perfectly adequate selection of house wines by the glass, very reasonably priced. (No full bottles.) I had baked scallops, served with choice of two sides, and I chose french fries and roasted brussels sprouts. The scallops themselves were good: large, cooked just right, and completely fresh. And a generous size portion for the money. But the breadcrumb topping was another matter: soggy to the point of paste-like and slightly burnt. I'd probably try something different next time. The fries were boring: thin and too dry. The brussels sprouts were the highlight: roasting brought out their nutty flavor, and the balsamic vinegar and whole roasted garlic cloves made them special. The wife had some specialty burger - I think it maybe was called the "Vermont". She liked it but it was heavy on the onions. We shared an order of onion rings. I didn't like them. They were thin, with a light batter, but seemed to lack any onion flavor - or batter flavor for that matter. Waitress was friendly and efficient, and we had no complaints about the service. I'd probably go again because it's nearby, inexpensive, and not bad. Maybe I made some poor choices and they do something else better? And with the large menu I know that I can try something else next time. read more

The Pic has redeemed itself!!!! The physical location is immaculate. They have completely redone the inside and it is beautiful. No more gross ceilings and everything really seems very clean! They follow Covid guidelines and it feels like a completely new place. Also, the food is amazing!!!!!! Our family was team Phoenix and now we have made the switch. I am oh so tempted to give this one star so I can keep it to myself. I have to be honest here however because I like the owner and the manager and the wait staff. This is a perfect example of a place that does all of the quintessential New England pub fare perfectly. Their seafood is always always tasty and well done. The steaks juicy. Their slaw is garlicky and the mashed yummy. The side salad and house dressing is so typical yet somehow when eaten there is seems delightfully plain. And the pizza! mmmmmmmmmm yummmy slightly carmelized cheeze. This is one place I will never have to figure out. It is such a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. The customers are real nice, the bar is long and the drinks are inexpensive. They play every Red Sox game, Bruins game, Celtics game and Pats game. Decent comfort food in a town with 2.5 restaurants, .5 gas stations, one Dunkin Donuts and three liquor stores. The atmosphere is a dimly lit locals bar that serves a good variety of pizza, burgers and great fried seafood. The bar is sorely lacking in options beyond normal offerings. Went to the "Pic" for over 20 years. Was a weekly stop, "an institution", especially for pizza. We had a couple issues when the pizzas were picked up that the pizza was over cooked . One time we called them and they apologized and put our name on a list for free pizza on our next visit. Then we started noticing that the cheese quantity dropped and they were just dried out and VERY disappointing. We called the restaurant and got attitude when we told them We wanted a replacement the next visit. The response was "how do we know it wasn't fine and you just want a free pizza?" Supposedly my complaints were the only ones they received. I was very disappointed as this is now on the list of businesses that had it all and started to figure that cost cutting and taking quality for granted was an option. Very sad. I have had my last Piccolino's pizza. Better luck to them in the future. I will not be part of it. read more

This is one of those local places that from the looks outside you are not sure what it will be like on the inside. When you first walk in there is seating directly in front of you and the bar is to the left. There is also plenty of seating in the back. The wait staff were extremely friendly and even other waitresses besides the one that was working our table checked in on us. I cant not say enough good things about the wait staff. We ordered boneless buffalo wings, potato skins, steak tip, sirloin steak and a turkey club sandwich and everything was fresh, cooked to our liking and tasted great. I ordered pizza and mozzarella sticks, pizza tasted like a cardboard box with a thin layer of cheese on it. I just noticed someone else stated that in their review so obviously its a thing, their pizza sucks, don't get it. The mozzarella sticks smelled like fish sticks and were mediocre. I called the manager and told him my pizza was not good, he was argumentative. Said he can send another pizza. Why would I want another crappy pizza? Just refund me for your overpriced nasty pizza. They would do that anywhere else. If someone tells you, this food isn't good, why offer them more of the same crappy food instead of doing a refund?? I wont go back. Also the pizza was room temp which didn't help that it already tasted like I was eating cardboard. Very disappointed with this experience. Save yourself the money. read more

Food was really good but the redhead bartender left something to be desired. At the end of our meal the waitress was busy tending her tables when I finally got my bill I only had a $100 bill I thought it may save time if I either paid or got change at the bar since there were only 4 people sitting at the bar but when I asked the red head bartender she yelled NO! We got prime rib (which was tough and tasted like it had been cooked days before & reheated in the au jus) and Chili (which was passable, but had a strange artificial taste). I was always a big fan of this place until the last time my fiance and I came into have drinks and dinner. My fiance ordered a martini and i got a beer. Her drink came with a fruit fly in it. She made the bartender aware of what was wrong with her drink. So, get this.....The bartender said "Oh, let me get that out of there for you." She just scooped it out with a spoon and didn't even offer her a new drink. REALLY?! I said, umm.. can you make her another one please? I had to ask for that. The bartender did, but came along with another fruit fly. So my fiance gave her one more chance but changed her drink with a vodka and tonic. We stopped in for dinner before a show at the Bull Run. We had two kinds of wings. The Buffalo wings were very good but the garlic and soy were really salty. All the entrees and sandwiches were great. We had two pieces of pie for dessert. The pecan pie was very good but the chocolate cream was barely okay.
