    Hash & eggs being prep'd

Lou's diner is a charming and perfect place to step back in time for a hearty, yet reasonably priced meal. For example, two eggs cooked to order, a nice sized portion of hash, home fries, toast, and coffee is only $7. Both breakfast and lunch selections are limited, but enough variety to satisfy most if not everyone. Two of us had breakfast around 9:00am on a Tuesday morning, it wasn't too busy. One person managed all roles. (waiter, cook, and cashier). The place is primarily a counter with about 10 seats, and 4 or 5 two-person booths. So when breakfast was ready, our food was placed on the bar for us to retrieve. Coffee refills? No problem. Simply go behind the counter and help yourself.

Excellent breakfast; my go-to diner. Great workers, and good prices. Highly recommend if you want a good breakfast.

Solid diner... but the best fries I've had in New England. Crispy on the outside, fluffy within. The Platonic ideal of a french fry.

I ended up having breakfast, which consisted of a Greek omlet with spinach, black olives and feta cheese. I had rye toast, home fries and coffee. Delicious. My partner had a Swiss patty melt with a side of thin onion rings. We both had coffee today. I have never eaten here where the food was not top notch. Unfortunately for us, we could have had their prime rib, if it was after 4 PM, but we were early. The menu is extensive and all I can say is that there is something on there for everyone, no matter what you like to eat. It has always been a soft spot in my heart because the owner is awesome and his workers are fantastic. I will add a picture of my breakfast (of course after I had started eating it!). You need to stop by at some point.

Busy joint, tight seating, and energetic servers who keep attentive. -- Patty Melt: So much to like about this, from the marble rye (though I think pumpernickel) to the full size patty (better than the double smashed you get elsewhere) to the onions to the gooey melted cheese to the extreme juiciness and pleasing flavor. I didn't detect any Russian dressing, but this sandwich wasn't lacking for moistness or flavor oomph. A near-elite rendition and one of the best I've had in a while. Excellent. -- Fries: Included with the patty melt and a plentiful supply. The bad news: they're the dreaded industrial "coated" kind. The good news: they were piping hot and cooked perfectly, crisp outside, fluffy inside. The great news: you can substitute home fries. My server offered a sample of the home fries. -- Home Fries: I found them to be right in my wheelhouse for doneness, crispness, seasoning, onions, and overall texture and flavor. Superb. Between the good looking plates that passed by and my enjoyment of my own food on my first visit, there's sure to be a second. Looking forward to returning with my wife for breakfast and more of those home fries.

Emphasizing the positives here…read more Absolutely characteristic, think Twin Peaks. A tad overconfident perhaps* though the steak tips \italics{were} excellently temperatured, and accompanying breakfast eggs "over medium", though properly done (+1), where themselves of the most discount quality one can find anywhere. All other vittles were edible, let's say. Ambience again, utterly characteristic, almost a world apart. The beautiful plastic serving baskets lent an aire of Summertime freshness; equally aesthetic were the matching red naga booth and barstool leathers; if the franchise is going for retro diner chic - totally nailed it (+1). *A note on the prices, which any Tom, Dick, or Harry can see are plainly served above their rank. $4.25 for the thinnest 'coffee' you've ever had, literally no taste and I am a great lover of coffees of all varieties. What are we paying for? That's boutique espresso chain pricing for a boutique cappuccino. Incidentally the menu does offer a 'cappuccino' but the waterboy informed our table that in fact there may be found no on-prem espresso machine. 18$ hamburger sandwich of the poorest quality components, patty so thin, bun so uninspired. What are we paying for? Actual conversations with actual customers yielded the following hilarious actual quotations**: "A not-good airport restaurant not in an airport, but with airport prices." One doesn't mind tending a pretty penny in a tasteful offing, but the numbers you see here suggest terms like "egregious" and "predatory", and a quick glance at other reviewers shows much similar sentiment. ** I myself can attest to patronage in each case.
