I have been coming to Avalon (Xenon prior) for over 2 decades now and I am always pleased with the…read morecaliber of students they have. Yes, there are an array of personalities ranging from more introverted to more extroverted. I have recognized that when I note that I'm donating hair, they will pair me up with a more confident student. What I mean is that for the newer students or for those who are not quite confident in their skills, a trim gives them practice that can build their confidence. But when you are donating 12" and choose a choppy A-line as your inspiration, it's definitely NOT textbook, so I feel like this would overwhelm someone who is still learning the basics. Last night, I went in to donate 12" and Noelia was so amazing!! She listened to what I wanted and asked her instructor if what she was thinking was how it should be done. When Noelia became stumped, she asked her instructors for guidance and intently watched them and learned new techniques. I even heard one of the instructors say "Well, this is one of those times where we bend that hair rule." My hair looks amazing and when I asked Noelia how to style it like my inspo pic, she was patient and explained in detail how to attain the look. She not only is a bright student who can learn, retain, and execute what she learned, but she can also teach back, which is the best demonstration of how wonderful of a student she is. Shout out to the instructors too who are patient and also allow the students to not fear asking questions or for guidance. They are really cultivating wonderful hair artists. And.. if you're lucky enough that an instructor decides to have a creative streak adding finishing touches to your hair, you get to see a hair master with scissors. I am amazed at not only the talent, but the speed in how they accomplish it.

As both a professional barber and a concerned mother, I feel obligated to speak honestly about my…read moreexperience with Avalon Institute -- not only as a client, but also from the perspective of a former student(different school) who expected a quality education and professional environment. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. The education students receive does not properly prepare them for the beauty and barbering industry. Many students are left teaching themselves instead of receiving hands-on instruction and guidance from licensed educators. While there are a few instructors who genuinely care ( felicia and toya), some teachers seem more interested in being students' friends than actually educating, correcting, and preparing them for real careers. Professionalism and structure are lacking in many areas. As someone already working in the barber industry, I can confidently say the training standards should be much higher. Students deserve instructors like felicia and toya who are engaged, experienced, and committed to helping them succeed -- not instructors who overlook important techniques, avoid accountability, or fail to provide consistent education. Another major issue is the lack of support and understanding for working professionals trying to better themselves through education. Being discriminated and looked over for employment opportunities because your child is a student at the institute was not okay. I know what I can bring to the education of beauty but got shut down because I have the same DNA as a student isn't ok Additionally, many students were not properly issued the materials and kits they paid for and needed in order to complete their training. Missing supplies, incomplete kits, and lack of proper equipment made it difficult for students to fully participate and practice the skills required in beauty education. When students are paying thousands of dollars for tuition, they should receive every tool and resource promised to them. Overall, Avalon Institute was not the supportive, professional learning environment I expected. Students deserve quality education, proper materials, professionalism, and instructors who genuinely care about their future careers. I hope this school takes these concerns seriously and makes improvements for future students

I was scheduled for a facial with extractions and a sugar body today 28 September 2017 at 5:30PM…read more I was there at 5:30PM and the student I was assigned to (Nanette) finally came to get me at about 5:43PM. I walked to a room with her and when I realized that it was not the correct room with the shower to rinse of the sugar scrub, I mentioned it to her. Nanette told me to go back out to the waiting area so she could prepare the other room for the sugar body scrub treatment. So about 6pm, she gets me and tells me that she is going to use the same room for the facial first. I informed her that the priority for me is the extraction, to get the pores cleaned out. Nanette starts telling me that she does not want to do "extractions" - she wants to do "eye lash extensions" and she tells me she is going to get another student who likes to do extractions.... about 8 minutes later (there is a clock right next to the door in the treatment room) she comes back and says the other student is busy with another client. I asked her if she is going to use the steamer to open the pores - Nanette says something like "steamers are outdated" and puts a small towel over my face.... she asked me if I used the "pore strips" before and I told her that the pores are not going to automatically become clean by placing pore strips on the nose/face. So after about two minutes she removes the towel and again leaves the room for about five minutes - after she returned, for about two minutes she does extractions on my nose. I told her that I normally go to Pickens Technical College, but the new students are not on the floor yet so I came to Xenon for the extraction facial. After a few minutes of her doing the extractions, she leaves and comes back with her instructor, "Nicole" By that time, I had been at Xenon for about 50 minutes and had about five minutes of "facial/extraction" - a towel on my face for about two minutes and about two or three minutes extractions. I was pretty obvious, as Nanette already told me before, she does not like to do facials or extractions, she likes to do "eye lash extensions" - it was clear to me that she did not want to do the facial and extractions. I told the instructor, "Nicole" that this was the most disorganized and ridicules experience I ever had - I told her that I had been at Xenon's before many times, but I never experience any treatment like this before. The instructor, Nicole, said we don't want to break your capillaries - I never heard anything like that before when I had asked for a facial with extractions! Clearly, the student, Nanette, did not feel like doing extractions and got her teacher to get her out of doing the facial with extractions! The instructor, Nicole, said "extractions are about 10 minutes and the facials is about one hour" - I told her that of the 45 minutes while I was there, I did not get to the room until about 6pm and during the time I was laying on the table, the student, Nanette, had already left the room three times, each time for about 5-8 minutes! The extraction time I had received by the student was about two to three minutes, plus about two minutes with a towel over my face! The teacher said "I think you are disrespectful to the student" - and I asked her if it is "not disrespectful for the student to leave the room three times and keeps telling me that she does not want to do facials and extractions, that she wants to do eye lash extensions" - and keeps leaving the room and trying to get another student to come and do the extractions. I told the instructor, Nicole, that I would like the name and contact information for the manager and that I would also contact corporate office about this kind of treatment. Clearly, by the other ONE STAR Yelp review left by another client, one can see that this place is going down the toilet. It seems, students only have to do treatments they like to do and when a client wants something different, the Esthetician just gets a teacher to bail the student out of doing what the client asked and is paying for! I have no idea how this place is staying in business! I NEVER experienced anything like this! STAY AWAY IF YOU WANT A FACIAL WITH EXTRACTIONS because the student esthetician "does not like to perform extraction facials!

My fiancé and I recently took a campus tour with Nicholas, and unfortunately, our experience was…read moreextremely disappointing. When we asked a simple question about the total cost of attendance, he immediately gave us numbers and then stated, "If it's not for you, I don't want to waste your time and continue the tour." At no point did we suggest the price was "too much" for us--we were simply requesting information. Throughout the tour, he repeatedly emphasized that "if it's not doable or not for us, we don't have to continue." Instead of focusing on the school itself, This not only distracted from the purpose of the tour but also made us feel singled out and discouraged. As a Hispanic woman and with my fiancé being Black, I felt strongly that we were being racially profiled. The way we were spoken to suggested that we were being dissuaded from considering the school, rather than welcomed or persuaded to join the community. I cannot imagine a white couple being treated in the same manner. The entire interaction felt dismissive, demeaning, and disrespectful. Nicholas also mentioned that he was leaving for vacation the next day, which left the impression that maybe he was not invested in giving us a meaningful tour so he could have a mellow last work day. Overall, what should have been an exciting and informative experience was instead extremely discouraging. I left feeling disappointed and disrespected, when I had truly hoped to leave with a positive impression of the school. EDIT: I received a call back from a lady in admissions regarding my concerns. She stated she had listened to the recording and told me, "I'm sorry you feel that way, but I didn't hear anything wrong. Sometimes the price is a deterrent for people." When I explained that Nicholas had made the comment multiple times, even when I didn't have any concerns for the price she dismissed it by saying, "I Only heard him say it once," to which I responded "He said it a few times." She replied with " Okay, two times, but I personally only heard it once," which implied I was exaggerating or lying. Instead of acknowledging our experience or offering a genuine apology, she asked me to take down my review since it mentions Nicholas' name. If she had simply validated our concerns, apologized appropriately, and not pressured me to remove my review, I would have been willing to take it down. Unfortunately, the way this was handled left me feeling even more disrespected and dismissed. I would've definitely gave you guys a second chance but this overall experience made me extremely disappointed, I am no longer choosing Concorde.

It's awful having a school giving up on you. After your paying for classes and going back to school…read moreafter 10 years and in my case I expected having trouble getting used to the routine and yes I expected failing. But they have a policy that they said they have of "max of three fails and you out". The teachers are great but that policy isn't beneficial if there are students that took them a while to get back into school. I don't know but I felt discouraged, not even sure if school is for me at this point. Also still your credits won't transfer to another school not worth it look for another school with more support and your credits transfer almost 80k for the BSN program and the credits aren't transferable not worth it!!
