The atmosphere was especially lively with the World Cup going on--we could hear people cheering from some of the restaurants, which made it even more fun. It has Giant Food as a major anchor and several smaller anchors like U Mall Theatres and Brion's Grill. U Mall is right across the street from a large university which is awesome for the students. There are shops that include: Peachwave, Taco Bamba, Gathering Grounds coffee, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Fat Tuesdays, McAllister's Deli, Oh George Taps and Tables, and other restaurants and places like a comic book shop, and a karate studio. Some shops are on the main level and some are around back on the lower level. There are stairs at the end to go downstairs. There is a wing restaurant in the parking lot in an old bank building. There are also several fast food joints. My only complaint about U Mall is the parking for the upper level and the ease of getting out which is hard since this place is on the corner of two very busy roads and a very busy intersection. There is only one light to exit with. The other exits have you going in only one direction with No U-Turn signs so have a backup way to get home!

I'll mention Margarita's Grill Mexican restaurant and the H Mart grocery store as business we have also patronized. A Sunoco gas station is on a corner of the property as is a free-standing combined KFC and Taco Bell. The shopping center is in two parts, divided by the Burke Lake Road overpass. On the other side are an Enterprise car rental, Duk Wo (Asian Fusion) and Buffa's Dance Studio, among other businesses. The shopping center is very accessible from Burke Lake Road and Burke Road from West Springfield.

It's your regular boring strip mall, that permeates this area like the others. I have found some bargains at the Dollar Tree, although that's now technically the $1.25 Tree. The one here is solid although busy. When needing a heat lamp for my sons snakes, can get them at the Petsmart. They almost always have these in stock. Park far away if you can, although it can be difficult to find that spot.

There are bigger and more exciting malls. Yet this one fits the old town look and experience. There's a pretty impressive dining and store selection in a small area. If you're in the area it's worth checking out.

It's middle ground, and the size is substantial. Parking is usually a cinch. That alone is helpful, as some of these in northern Virginia can be headache inducing. There's a fair amount of choices here. In addition to the most amazing gym in the area, there's a Tropical Smoothie, Anita's, IHOP, Ross, Dollar Tree, Petco, and a few other places. This isn't going to knock you over with its selection. Yet you can get some low cost groceries at Lidl, or maybe get a new car battery at the Advanced Auto store. If you're in the area it works.
