I love going to this store everytime we go to Grand Marais. It's really fun and cool. It always looks like no one is inside but you open the door and it's full of people. Grand Marais is one of the greatest towns in the Upper Peninsula to visit. Spend a day here and plan on loving it.

There was only one other car when we arrived, so we basically had the whole place to ourselves. That was great for our dog, but even if it were busy, the area is wide open with lots of space to roam around. The loop we walked was for both walking and driving, but luckily there were no cars on it while we were there, so it was really nice to have that space just to walk. There are multiple other areas to check out. You can stop by to have lunch and stretch your legs. It really is a must stop! There are a few porta-potties on site, a decent-sized parking lot, and a small gift shop too.

With some of the political messages on the sculptures, I must say that what this man does with metal and steel is very impressive! on the day that I visited, I was able to witness the dog sled race, and snowmobiles going by even though there has been some issues with the sled riders in the recent past by defacing some of the artwork. this place is truly a gem if you're ever in the area do yourself a favor and visit you won't be disappointed!

I never knew much about the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald, but this book opened my eyes to the tragedy and I wanted to visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum while in the UP recently. The museum is actually made up of several buildings, some of which are free to enter without an admission ticket. If you buy a ticket, you get a wristband that gets you into the shipwreck museum gallery, US Navy radio building, lighthouse keeper's quarters, surfboat house, and the motor life-boat house. We started by watching the short film about the raising of the bell from the wreck of the Fitz, which was restored and now resides in the museum. It was replaced with a new bell that has the names of those who perished inscribed on it. The film is a bit dated but was very emotional and moving. Learning about some of the other many shipwrecks that have occurred on the Great Lakes is sobering and fascinating. I never knew that so many happened simply due to ships running into each other. I loved learning about the lighthouse keepers' lives. After we finished exploring, we headed to the beach and dipped our toes into Lake Superior. We spent over an hour here but could have stayed much longer. There is a lot of information and plenty of friendly docents around to answer questions. I loved this experience and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the Great Lakes!

It's at Whitefish Point, which has seen more than its fair share of shipwrecks. Of course, the top of my list was to see the bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald. I also found it interesting to learn about lesser-known wrecks--I had no idea that so many were the result of foggy collisions. Be sure to visit the light keeper's quarters, surf rescue boats, and the beach, of course. Thank you to the knowledgeable docents who were so friendly and informed. A great value for the $15 ticket!

The only think more amazing than the care taken to maintain this park are the lives led by the original lighthouse keepers. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in particular is really fascinating and worth a visit. There are also lots of great trails to hike and wander through around the complex, and some really wonderful bird watching spots to boot. It's worth a stop no matter what amount of time you're working with. If you have a half hour, wander up and down the beach for a bit. Got more time? You can spend a few hours digging into the history and the artifacts in the buildings and the lighthouse. They also offer overnight accommodations in the crew's quarters (but you'll have to call ahead and book in advance for that). History and nature buffs will love this spot, for sure.

When I first visited here about two years ago, the visitors building was under renovation and there…read morewas no way to visit. I'm glad to report that now it's fully finished! Inside there's a counter with maps and the NPS cancelation stamp, but not much else. You also have to pay the admission fee at the counter The ranger there is pretty friendly and I overheard her giving advice to other visitors. There's no gift shop or displays/exhibits yet, but I'm hoping they're added in the future. The restrooms are located outside across the path. There's plenty of bathroom stalls. There's also an informational board next to the bathrooms with information about the area and hiking conditions. The Munising Falls are about 800 feet from the visitor center. The main path is paved with some wooden bridge areas, but overall it's a smooth trail. There's a trail to the lower falls which takes you to the level of the plunge pool, but also stairs to the upper falls if you want to get another viewpoint. Make sure to bring bug repellent since there's plenty of mosquitoes around!
