We were scrambling for a backup plan when we found Northland in Michigan's magnificant Upper Peninsula. With the barest sketch of a plan we called the folks at Northland. They put us up in a bunkhouse, helped us plot routes for multi-day canoe trips, offered fishing advice, provided livery service and generally saved our vacation. Their campground along the banks of the Manistique river is beautiful--see the amazing Thomas Dambo sculpture, Benny the Beard Fisher Troll--and the owners and staff amazingly friendly and kind. --Robert B.

The refuge area ( separate for adult males, adult females and cubs) seems large and natural enough to provide a comfortable refuge to the bears. There is a beautiful serene lake on the property and felt very peaceful spending some time there. Though we enjoyed watching the bears, the experience seemed overpriced and a little unfriendly. We paid $30 for the car( only cash allowed) and then there was additional $4 for the bag of apples and $10 for the photoshoot with the cub.for the area the ranch covers and average time spent there , I feel at-least one pic or the bag of apples could be included in the $30 ticket price. The instructions at the photo-booth about the cost of recapturing a pic seemed borderline rude to me. I understand that people can get particular about their pics but I am sure there are friendlier ways to get your point across: Most of the trails around the bears enclosures do not have any signs, and we only found text about the ranch and the bears at the very end. All in all, can be a good spot for kids and bear enthusiasts. Nor for people who are looking for a safari kind of experience.

This made my day! This was our first time coming here but definitely not our last!

Reservations can be made at recreation.gov six months in advance. Very poor if any cell service. The west "generator free" loop was mostly all tent campers and apart from wailing children, very quiet. Pit toilets, running (cold) water, and garbage bins (ignore what recreation.gov tells you). Short walk to the beach from every site; many sites are right above the beach.

This is not the owners fault, just something to keep in mind following lots of rain in the season. Great time had by all, much longer trip than we were expecting due to really slow moving water the second half of the river.

I knew prior it would be an educationally fun environment, but I had no idea just how meaningful it would be. We all left there simply filled with the peace and love of knowing just how well these 78 sled dogs are cared for. Participating in the entire process of preping the team for the run was the real deal when it comes to life experiences. Kim, with her competent staff, have really thought of everything in developing this amazing program. This is not just her business, this (and these dogs) are her life! You will not be disappointed.

Kim and her staff, Tim and Corbin were fabulous. Kim made sure we enjoyed the tour and that we felt safe. First we listened to Kim tell us about her experience in the Iditarod, then we got to meet many of her 65 dogs. They are so loving and cared for. Then we saw them hook up the dogs to the sled. We got to put on their booties. The other dogs were so excited, wishing they would be picked. We got to drive the sled and to sit in the basket. You will enjoy every minute of the time you spend at Husky Haven.

You get to pet and play with them for approximately 30 minutes, then you watch a video about the Alaskan races so you have a better understanding of how they work, how the dogs are raised, super helpful video! Laura is super accomplished and has great stories about these dogs and the races they have run so bring your questions! You then take a short walk back into the woods where the Guide reviews the adult dogs skills and examples of some of the race experiences that they have. It really is a very impressive place and you are honestly doing a great service and that you are helping to socialize these dogs. You can book online on their website in advance or we were able to just walk in at the appropriate time on a weekday You do need to allocate about an hour and a half for the entire experience and it looks like they take up to 45 people. No course diagram anywhere to be found, online, on their website, or on the card, HELLO? Made it difficult to manage the course. Greens were in great shape, but so many undulations, and everyone was hillside, made 1/2 my strokes, putts. One ball washer, on hole No. 1, that was it, cart was filthy. For an "upscale", somewhat expensive course, a few standard extras should have been provided. I usually stay away from "resort" courses because of their hilly & blind shot holes, and undulating, putt-putt like golf greens, this course fit that description. But the aesthetics were fantastic. $45 for 9 & a cart, midweek.
