Confusing- the store says "Red White and Blue Thrift" on the outside, I don't know why it's listed as Veterans of America on this site. I found the merchandise dirty and crappy, the employees and customers kinda trashy, and the checkout process excruciatingly slow. Would not return. read more

I used them all the time years ago now it's a joke I set up a donation pick up like I always do even gave some info like bags will be by front door and labeled. It's raining all day so I called five hours later after bags sitting there then I get a call saying you didn't answer the phone so driver left. What are they doing if the driver pulled in like all other times there was no need for a phone call just pick up donation. Idiots read more

Depending on what kind of thrifter you are you'll either love or hate Red White & Blue. It's not the cleanest thrift store or most organized for that matter but they make up for it with sheer volume. There is an absolute ton of stuff to search through if you like but you could spend hours here looking for treasure. Prices do vary. The same brand of shirt can fluctuate between $6. All the clothing seems lumped by color so you need to scour for the right size. On my one visit I didn't find anything amazing but it wouldn't deter me from going back. They are cash only but have an ATM on site. I think Saturdays is their half off sale on certain items. Not sure if they have an social media presence but it would definitely help! Lots of home goods & apparel. I was a bit overwhelmed on my visit but will definitely go back. read more

It was a real effort to get everything out that morning only to get an email later THAT morning that my pick up was cancelled and when I called it would be the next week for another pickup! Now I have to lug it all back in and will find another charity to donate to. read more

As one of the previous reviewers stated, whether you love or hate this place will really depend on the kind of thrifter you are. If you generally prefer cleaner, higher-end Goodwill's and consignment boutiques then this place will probably seem like a grimy hellhole packed with filthy trash. However, if you're like me and grimy hellhole's packed with filthy trash are where you do most of your shopping, then you're in for one hell of a treat. Just walking through the parking lot, someone in a beat-up old hatchback slowed down and stopped to try and bum a cigarette off me. That's when I knew this was a place I needed to be. When I walked in, I was not disappointed. First thing you see upon entering is the housewares aisle which boasts an impressive selection of old dishes, coffee percolators, old scuffed-up serving trays and coffee mugs, and above that an entire wall full of ugly paintings. The clothing section was exemplary. Paisley and corduroy were in abundance and blazers could be found in almost any idiotic color you could imagine (I found and purchased a bright purple one). Plenty of old coats and sweaters too. On the downside, the hours are kinda weird so when they're open they get slammed, they don't take cards but they have an ATM and finally, they didn't seem to have very good AC when I came here and it was pretty damn hot inside. Personally, I don't mind trying on wool sweaters when its hot and muggy (hell, I'm gonna wear 'em out in the heat either way) but I know that's probably a turn-off for a lot of you. Overall, while Waterbury is certainly a hike for this Hudson Valley NY resident, I would definitely make it a point to come here whenever possible. This thrift store has weird hours. It closes really early (unlike Goodwill and Savers). Its always mobbed on a Saturday when I go in there, everything on the floor that's worth the purchase has already been tagged with a Sold ticket. Its very frustrating. I've been in there 3 times and havent walked out with anything. That says a lot for someone who enjoys thrift store shopping. They should move sold stuff in the back to allow buyable stuff to be displayed. They have good clothes but I don't bother. read more

This used to be my all time favorite place to thrift. Since moving to their new location a lot of aspects have changed. Most of the prices are outrageous. Literally have seen items that cost more than their original price. They always have a color that's usually 50%... and guess what? You will find everything, but that color. It is so pointless, because you will literally not find one tag of that color through the entire store. If you do, it'll have a ridiculous price on it. The whole point of thrift stores are to take in donations and sell them for a cheaper price. Thrifting isn't only good for your pocket, but good for the environment and I'm disappointed this isn't the case anymore for this store. read more

Give your stuff to someone else that cares. I am a 100% disabled Iraq and Afghanistan veteran. Chose to donate to them as it was a veterans org after my parents went into assisted living. Scheduled two weeks out. Confirmed by text and by phone and email including the night prior. Got ip at 0330 to drive down to my parents from Maine (4hours) only to be told that they refused tonpick up as the truck was going somewhere else nearby. 0 caring. 0 flexibility. I come here once or twice a month. They usually have the daily sales written on a white board before you enter the store. For example, it will say "green tags 75% off, white tags 50% off". Sounds like a good deal until you get inside the store to find that pretty much everything, especially anything with a brand name or even just in decent condition, has a red tag, which is full price. They charge insane amounts of money for anything that can be considered a "boutique" item. I've seen Charlotte Russe and Forever 21 brand shoes with dirty soles and patchy glitter marked for 19.95. If you can manage to find something with a "sale" color tag, you may be able to find something worth buying, though. They do have a lot of stuff at this store. The store is always PACKED with customers. It makes it hard to move around because you're always in somebody's way. There is always a ton of staff members on the sales floor as well, pushing around bins and carts full of merchandise. Most of the staff members seem to have no problem pushing customers aside, reaching past them, blocking them and their carts with their bins, etc. to get the merchandise out onto the floor. I've never even heard one of them say so much as an "excuse me". They only take cash as a form of payment, and their on-site ATM has a fee of almost $4 to use. There are usually only 2-3 cashiers at the front end, even on the weekends, and even though there are at least 10 cash registers. Expect to wait in line for anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour. I think this place is very disorganized and run poorly but with that being said, I do usually walk out with at least one bag of stuff, which is why I keep coming back. There is much more in this store than any Savers or Goodwill that I've ever been to. read more

I've been going to this thrift store since It was on Thomaston Avenue next to the highway it's been there for almost how many years ... (5+ years) they recently moved it to wolcott Street I do not like my experience there at all I waited an hour to find out I had to pay double for an item because the price tag fell off inside the basket . Literally one of my FAVORITE places to shop for clothing for myself and my son as well as interesting treasures for my home and friends! The staff is helpful and sweet + most are bilingual. My son and I have been going to RWB since he was an infant and many of the ladies of the store know him by name and are happy to see he and I when we come to shop. They have senior discount day (50% off most items) every Wednesday which my mom loves. Come early on Wednesday if you want a cart and def plan on spending a couple hours perusing any day you go to shop bc there is TONS to check out. Worth the ride read more

I used to really love this place. Ever since they moved their prices have sky rocked. Not to long ago I was able to go in there and walk out with 3 bags worth of clothing for 100 bucks. Not anymore. Most nicer items are at least 20 bucks. Their rings used to range around 10 bucks, now anywhere from 20 to 40! Cheap costume jewelry necklaces 7+. I will admit their sales are still good for example today was 50% off white and yellow tags. Yet I couldn't find anything I liked that white or yellow. The only reason why I gave 3 stars is because of the customer service. They're always nice and willing to help. The only thing I still hate about this place is no fitting rooms, but they've never had them. I'll shop here again, but I hope their prices don't get any higher! read more

As far as thrift stores go this place is pretty good. Its HUGE. They have furniture, home goods, electronics, toys, books, tons of shoes and clothes. It's a thrift store in Waterbury so as you can expect it's usually packed with not the greatest people shopping there. That's the biggest con for me- the crowds of rude crazies. But they usually have some good finds at a decent price. I've gotten furniture, books, bikes, and clothing here. Good stuff sells out quick though. They always have a sale going on of sometimes 25 or 50% off selected color tags (usually items that have been there longer, but still). As far as I know they still only accept cash- so that's something to plan for. They do have an in store ATM though. read more

A cool spot. My first thrift store buy so my review comes with limited experience. My friends and I came here to get some gear for an 80s themed party. We were all able to find something suitable. I purchased a wicked cute pair of tights with a great pattern. They have some great pieces, but you have to be patient and look diligently through each section. This is an ideal spot to hit before heading to the mall if you are attending an event akin to a costume party. read more

But the one huge caveat at this store is that the management refuses to control the loiterers in the store. There is a group of intimidating men that hang out, all day seemingly, at the back door where they bring out the goods. They rip stuff off of the racks and the rolling carts before it even gets out on the floor to the public, and dont get in there way either. Sometimes they quite scary. A few times of this has been enough for me , like many people I have talked too. People have said that the few times the manager, Mike is his first name, has been out on the floor he turns a blind eye to it. Perhaps in on the take. Not throwing accusations, but this is what other people have talked about. Its is a shame the this store is run like this. I wont frequent it. read more

I have been going to RW&B Thrift for about five years now (I started shopping there when they were still at their old location). While there are some bargains to be found, the shopping experience is getting worse and worse at exactly the time the prices are going up and up. Full Disclosure: I am a thrift store hound and have been to hundreds of different thrift stores, junk shops and barn sales so I have plenty of experience in places like Red, White & Blue. The Pros: The people unpacking and pricing incoming items miss things and you can still stumble across a great find. The Cons: - The store is filthy. Especially the floors, which is a problem if anything like sheets, towels, linens or long garments touch it. - You have to literally beg to be let into the bathroom. And forget about getting in if the "Closed" sign has been slapped on the door. Really?! You have a huge store with hundreds of people in it and you think it's okay to shut down the bathroom for hours? - It's a lucky day if I arrive and there is actually a shopping cart available. What normally unfolds is you have to follow people out to the parking lot, wait for them to unload and then wheel it back in. A real time saver! Here's a novel idea: have enough carts so people can start to shop upon arriving. More than likely more time spent in the store shopping means more money spent! And please stop with the new announcement of not taking the carts out to the parking lot unless absolutely necessary. Instead, hire someone to bring them back in. Everything in the store has been DONATED (i.e. you didn't pay for it) so that leaves some room to buy more shopping carts and/or hire someone to manage them. - On Wednesdays and Saturdays four of the five colored tickets are offered at a 50% discount. That sounds great--80% of the things in the store are half-price! But they're not. It is immediately apparent which sole ticket is NOT discounted just by looking down the aisles. If the Blue ticket is the only color that is full price, then all you see are a sea of blue tickets. If it's Red, ditto. - The store sells TONS of breakables--glassware, plates, collectibles, vases, etc. but the girls at the check-out have to try to wrap large, fragile items with dinky newspaper flyer inserts. Even Goodwill has normal CLEAN packaging paper they use when customers buy breakables. - Finally, the prices have gone up astronomically in the past few months. This week I bought a brass anchor book end (quite flimsy) only because I collect anchors. Honestly, a few months ago it would have been priced at .95 or, possibly, $1.95. This week it was $4.95, which is more in line with a multi-dealer antique store. Reading a few of the other reviews it seems the store is under new management? If so, I hope they read this review. I have long been a fan of RW&B (I have turned many people onto it who have spent thousands of dollars there over the years). But it is starting to feel that the only thing that matters is squeezing the last drop of profit out of the place, which could be counterproductive if you start alienating your customers. At the very least, if you're going to raise prices (like you have) then bring it up a notch: mop the floors, buy more shopping carts, keep the bathroom open the whole time and buy some proper packing materials so the girls behind the counters (who are probably making minimum wage) don't have to struggle to wrap things. It also might be nice for your customers to know what charities you support. read more

Hands-down this is and was my favorite store to shop . Huge selection,. If you like to bargain hunt and I mean hunt this stores for you it's huge. That said, it is now under new management. You used to have bags of make up and fun stuff to buy but they did away with the little stuff. I don't know where that stuff went but I'd like to see that stuff come back. For a long time they got rid of the aggressive thrifters, They didn't allow people to pull items off carts and off of racks. The new manager seems to have turned a blind eye to all that's going on in the store. You never see him. It's just a free-for-all. He doesn't seem to be able to have any skills to actually manage a store like this. There's a couple of very aggressive men that stand in the back and literally you can't get anything good anymore, it never gets a chance to even hit the shelves. These people are actually scary and really hamper everyone's ability to shop and have a good time. The last time I was there one of these men actually knocked me out of the way as I was looking on a rack. I'm elderly and should've reported it. But they're quite intimidating and I am afraid of retribution. Please bring back my store.!! Anne read more

There are some nice things if you look for them, but this store has no fitting rooms, doesn't accept debit and layout of clothes is poorly organized. They have an ATM which charges $3.75 to use. Decent prices though. read more
