The campground offers over 60 sites, plus six cozy cabins. Three of these are rustic stone cabins with two rooms each, while the other three are smaller, single-room cabins. Cabin Six has been beautifully updated with new floors, furniture, appliances, and a modern bathroom. For larger groups, the park also has three group camp cabins--each with 20 bunk beds and spacious bathrooms that include showers, toilets, and sinks. The park is full of history and adventure. Visitors can explore the Pioneer Cabin and its nearby waterfall, or cross the famous swinging bridge--a suspension bridge that stretches 25 feet over Bear Creek. On the other side, you'll find two trails perfect for bouldering, rock climbing, or simply wandering through the forest. Wildlife is abundant, with deer, squirrels, raccoons, and plenty of other critters calling the park home. There are three scenic pavilions for picnics or gatherings. Pavilion One has restrooms nearby, Pavilion Two overlooks Haines Lake, and Pavilion Three also offers a beautiful view of the water. The dining hall is available for weddings, reunions, meetings, and other special events. Fishing enthusiasts will love the three fishing spots: Haines Lake, a quiet pond behind the Pioneer Cabin, and Bear Creek beneath the swinging bridge. For families, the park includes two playgrounds, a sports field, and plenty of picnic tables with cast-iron grills scattered throughout. Outdoor fun continues with three disc golf courses designed for different skill levels. And when it's time to clean up, the campground features two bathhouses that are always kept tidy by the hardworking park staff. This is my experience as someone who came here just to hike. The trails are great! They are not…read moreovergrown and the trail markers are bright and large! I would appreciate some wood signs discerning the junctions from one another. There are several social trails that will mislead you and could easily be fixed with a social trail sign or caution tape. I color coded the map attached to this review to show my route. I parked at the trailhead for the fitness trail. I walked the pink line to the museum and walked the yellow line back. Once I took a break, I did the green line. Due to poor planning I didn't realize the bike trail wasn't a loop and so I didn't intend to do two there and back hikes I'm not sure why it's not a loop as it could likely be connected from where it ends at the amphitheater to the 0.40 mile mark on the part of the bike trail headed straight to the museum... The visitor center/museum can be walked to from the bike trail. It's got information and artifacts from David Crockett's life and stuff. They also have several birds of prey outside that you can view anytime. The park rangers are very friendly and helpful when kids want to learn about the birds.

The trail hike, a family friendly, short and sweet, hike, with the lead of an incredible State Park Ranger. The park Ranger graciously led the way and read the story aloud. It was a family fun event. Afterwards, we were able to drive through the Christmas lights through the park. It reminded us as a similar show, from the Memphis Shelby Farms starry nights, so nice to have this here at the Pickwick State Park. Two white sand beaches with sort of clean water. Even though the beach area is in a 'No Wake' zone…read morethere is a pier, close enough to keep the waters churned up on days with heavy boat traffic. There are no lifeguards. There are clean showers, water fountains, restrooms, vending and soda machines. There is a play area for children to burn off energy. Water related activities draw a lot of visitors and at peak dates or holidays, getting into the water is difficult and even impossible. Old Bridge Beach and Piney Grove Beach both offer picnic shelters and volleyball courts along with the restroom facilities, and showers. Overnight camping is available at two campgrounds, the Piney Grove Campground run by the Corps of Engineers and the Whippoorwill Campground run by the Bay Spring Marina. Piney Grove Campground offers 139 Class A campsites with water and electrical service as well as restrooms with shower facilities, a fish cleaning station, playground and fishing piers and an amphitheater. Fishing on Bay Springs Lake is very popular and productive. There are fishing tournaments throughout the year, with the exception of winter. There was a state record 6 lb 4 oz chain pickerel at Bay Springs Lake in 1986, and Scott Wood snagged a 4.66-pound saugeye here in 2000. It isn't unusual to catch 20-30 fish a day. We always did the 'catch and release' after we had enough to feed us and our friend.

Beautiful !!! We only stayed 1 night but wish we had more…read moretime. We got sight #52 which has a water view right above the swim beach. The concrete pad was pretty level and long enough for a 28' trailer and truck. The crushed gravel patio area had a nice CLEAN table, fire pit, and a pole with 2 hooks (to hang trash bags, lights, towels, etc). The bathroom, shower, and laundry were just a short walk and were very clean. The swim area has a nice beach and there is a roped off area that goes out to 6' deep. The water was warm and the bottom was sandy. The trails wander through the woods and have old asphalt paving which does not detract from the beautiful natural surroundings but feels good underfoot and isn't muddy. The caretakers are super nice people. They give you a large trash bag when you check in. USE IT! We saw a family take a grocery bag of trash to the dumpster and leave the rest of their trash scattered around their site when they left. You shouldn't pay more and stay at a commercial campground that packs you in a parking lot with hardly any trees. Check out our federal campgrounds. They're awesome.

It has a picnic…read morepavilion, an archery range, a gazebo, two playgrounds, two volleyball courts, a basketball court, a baseball field, boat launches, campsites, fishing, swimming, and about twelve acres of hiking trails. It got its name from a mass exodus of rats that exited a building that caught on fire in the 1800s. The Eagle Point Trail Loop is 7.55 miles. The scenic trail is 2.2 miles. The Spring Creek Trail is .35 mile. The mountain bike trail is 3.65 miles.
