This isn't mentioned in the description. If you do decide to rent, call them directly and ask for a cabin in the back of the property. It's pricey in my opinion considering the issues I listed here. The Battle of Parker's Cross Roads was a relatively small (but important) Civil War battle fought…read moreon December 31, 1862. It happened during Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest's raid against Union supply lines across TN. Despite the Confederates suffering heavier casualties, Forrest's raid was considered successful for disrupting Union operations and became famous for his order of "Charge 'em both ways!" after finding his forces trapped between two separate Union forces. The battlefield has been wonderfully preserved and is easily located right off Interstate 40 at Exit 108 (about halfway between Memphis and Nashville. ) Stop in to enjoy: -a small (but mighty) visitor center with exhibits and a battlefield diorama as well as a short documentary about the battle -self-guided driving tour (for $3 you can purchase a very comprehensive driving tour on a USB drive or CD in the gift shop) -paved walking trails with interpretive markers - large chunks of preserved portions of the battlefield where the fighting occurred *Pro Tip * If following the driving tour I would recommend actually starting with point 7 on the tour because it gives a wonderful overview of the battlefield and the battle before getting into the nitty gritty details. After completing the tour, I wish we had started with point 7 instead of finishing with it as it felt a bit backwards. * If you're a history lover it's a must visit in TN and could pair easily with other nearby Civil War sites!

"Charge 'em Both Ways"-General Nathan Bedford Forrest at Parker's Crossroads…read more As Brig. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest's expedition into West TN came to its conclusion, Col. Cyrus L. Dunham and Col. John W. Fuller (Union), attempted to cut Forrest off from withdrawing across the TN River. Gen. Grant has ordered various Federal regiments to track down Forrest. On December 31, 1862 at Parker's Crossroads, fighting began about 9:00 am. Confederate artillery had an early advantage. Forrest sent Dunham a demand for an unconditional surrender; however, Dunham refused. Fuller's Union brigade arrived and surprised the unprepared Confederates with an attack on their rear. Forrest ordered, "Charge 'em both ways." The Confederates reversed front, repelled Fuller, then rushed past Dunham's demoralized force and withdrew across the TN River. Both sides claimed victory, but the Confederates were able to escape what should have been a perfect trap. Of 3,000 men engaged, there were 737 estimated casualties.

Buffalo River has become our home away from home. Our "village". Consist of anywhere from 40 to 100 people that choose to camp on the river in the bottoms. We are in some ways closer than family. It's Our choice to camp on the river as opposed to the upper camp ground. We do so with the knowledge that any river bottom is prone to flooding. We all know that their brochure states "no refunds under any circumstances." June 2026 is the 1st June that I have had had personal experience with flooding (37th year). I did experience one in October several years back. In both instances, we were informed by the owners with plenty of time to relocate to the top campground. In both instances EVERYONE was offered options. We, being "avid" trail riders with experience in multiple campgrounds including primitive ones, always are prepared for power outages/emergencies etc. so we opted to use our generators and save the available electric spots in the upper camp for those that did not have. I heard staff offering electric sites/generators and extra power cords. All stalls in the upper camp were taken. We, being "avid" trail riders had picket line materials in our trailer. I heard staff offering picket line materials to other campers. I experienced staff and other riders offering any and all help with moving from the river bottom. I experienced many very young but capable men taking horses up as others packed trailers to move up. Those of us with water tanks were available to help others have water for their horses. The water came up on Monday around the time of the evening meal and was completely gone by Wednesday. Our village chose to go back to our "home" so that we could all be back together. I never thought about doing a Yelp review of my home. It didn't exist when I started going. It seems that most who do reviews seem to be looking for a platform to publicly complain. So here I am, defending a great place and some really great people. I'm grateful that BRTR owners have worked so very hard to keep this for us. Many, I'm sure have no idea how hard they work. From campground and stall maintenance, to managing land leases, keeping reservations and office running, providing an amazing 19 meals each organized ride and yes dealing with flooding and the damage it causes and I haven't even mentioned the volunteers that clean the trails after logging crews, tornadoes or straight line winds and this year a devastating ice storm. Grace instead of entitlement is what I've seen most, but there's always some who try to blast others. If you're looking for a great place to camp, ride, eat great food you don't have to prepare and make lifelong friends, BRTR is the place for you. If you're fearful and/or unprepared of the river flooding, but would like to be at BRTR, I suggest making your reservations for the upper campground.

The following day the lower area flooded, and by the time everyone moved to the top there were no more spots available with hookups. We were forced to spend the night with no electricity and leave the following day with a promise for a credit for next year at a minimum, but would have to wait until the manager arrived to get anything. There were no barn spots remaining which we paid for and , with children and elderly guests we were forced to leave. After Greg returned the message was clear, they lost money with the barns being demolished so they were insolvent and did not care if they lost customers who had been coming annually for many years. We tried to resolve this amicably but after damage to our RV and the way we were spoken to, we will obtain legal counsel and do our best to spread the word so no one else loses their hard earned money here!

That being said other hunters in our party saw at least 10 deer and 1 person in our group of hunters got a couple shots off but missed ( He did not have an inline). No deer were harmed by the Archery party before us or our group. Bug was 5 stars, I am partially disabled and his assistance was above and beyond expectations. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The Food: Im on a special diet so i only partook of the food on 1 day and it was pretty good. The other days i had brought my own food. The accommodations were great. We were on the 2nd floor the bed was comfortable and plenty of hot water in the shower. On other hunts i have been on we would see deer in the fields feeding on our way out or on the road and we did not see any. Not saying they were not there, just that we saw none on the way to our stands. This was my 1st time hunting white tail deer. We mostly hunt black tail and mule deer in the west.
