*Got Hummus?* Great little neighborhood grocery store but lacks that friendly neighborhood feel. It's technically a Kosher Glatt Persian Market but they also carry lots of other items too. I don't eat kosher and I'm not Persian but I love Middle Eastern Food. Every time I step foot inside here, I feel like I've stepped in another dimension & into the Twilight Zone. There is one very nice guy & gal working here but that's really about it other than the guy at the sushi counter & one guy in the deli area. They have very good sushi that's the same fish that one of the neighboring kosher restaurant serves. My favorite thing here is their baked salmon rolls that are under $9. My favorite thing about this place is their Hummus and Tahini. They're made fresh daily and IMO it's some of the best. There's also lots of other cold pre-made food items that are all prepared daily and very good. They have a very good produce section (but nothing organic) with a nice variety. I mainly come here for the Persian cucumbers, Pears and Persimmons. But don't ask any of the Latino produce guys for assistance or questions because they'll react as if you're bothering them. They have a nice hot food area with excellent lunch specials- Salmon, Chicken, Chicken & Beef Kabobs, Beef Stew, Various Specials of the Day, and your choice of 2 sides to go along with the entree. The prices are extremely reasonable ($9-$12) and they give a lot of food that can last two meals - unless you're really hungry. They have an excellent baked goods section with a vide variety of pastries, cakes, cookies, and pita & flat breads, that are packaged from all the top bakeries on the Westside. They have packaged meats & poultry and also a butcher counter with some fresh fish too. There's even a large selection of wine and from what I've been told, they carry all types that are priced right. They pack a large punch inside this semi-small corner Kosher Persian market and I'm always surprised & happy to find some items I can't seem to find elsewhere - as well as reasonably priced everyday items I can find elsewhere that I'll simply grab while I'm here. Parking can be an issue because their located off a very busy & congested Pico & Beverly Dr intersection. They have their own small parking lot off Pico, but it's a very tight fit so I suggest parking on Pico or the side streets and feed the meter before yourself. If you've never been here it's worth a visit or two and perhaps repeats in the future because all & all it's a great little grocery store - even with the random attitude problems. read more

Because people have noted their demographic background in the past, I am not orthodox and am female. I asked someone today (Sunday) in the prepackaged meat section if the ground meat was fresh from that morning or from Friday. I don't know why I asked because I assumed he would say today - unfortunately this is the reputation of many in this industry - to try to sell as much as possible. He looked me in the eye and said "Friday". I put it back and said, thank you for being honest with me. And he said "I never lie". There is nothing wrong with cooking ground beef that was ground 2 days prior (eg the meat you buy in any grocery store). So, Pico Glatt is an experience that improves if you go more often. If you go once, and you're used to a standard chain grocery store, it's an interesting experience which may or may not appeal to you. There's less parking than you'll be used to, because of the size of the lot and also it's very much catering to the neighborhood and many patrons walk there. Meat is expensive because it's all kosher, the hot food counter serves largely Persian food and a few types of sushi, the product selection reflects the wants of the people in the neighborhood, and the brands of even "normal" American fare will often be unfamiliar. Many members of the staff have worked there in excess of 20 years and pal around like it. The owner himself is often present and working, and until recently, I often spotted his wife filling orders, shopping along with everyone else. There are many languages going at once (English, Spanish, Hebrew, Farsi, and I think both Thai and Tagalog are spoken by people who work and/or shop there). The store closes early on Friday, is closed all day on Saturday, and while it's closed on Jewish holidays, it's open on Sundays and secular and Christian holidays. I've seen people get very excited because Pico Glatt sells so many Middle Eastern/Central Asian/South Asian specialty goods and because shoppers will chat you up and the staff is all so friendly. But I've also seen people walk into Pico Glatt for the first time and look overwhelmed and slightly shocked, particularly if they shop while the neighbors are preparing for Shabbat or holidays and it's crowded. Hence, is someone shops at Pico Glatt once and pans it, I can understand it. However, if you live in the neighborhood, and you go into the store more than once, you will find the place increasingly welcoming. For example, the workers will recognize you from the street, from previous encounters in the store, from the local schools, etc. They will often note your name, your kids, what things you like, sometimes even your job or other identifiers. If you haven't been in the store in a month, sometimes a worker will light up when they see you and say, "I haven't seen you! How have you been?" If they get in a kind of seasonal product you look forward to, they might point it out even before you ask. And if you live/work/attend school in the neighborhood, you will bump into people you know among the other shoppers and have a delightful interaction with buddies. I have witnessed so many kindnesses and giggles and favors while walking Pico Glatt's aisles over the years and experienced all of these things first-hand. Shopping there is a very human experience at a time where many people just order their groceries online and have them delivered and isolate themselves from community. I've been shopping at Pico Glatt for nearly 27 years. There are fancier markets, even fancier kosher markets, in the neighborhood. But Pico Glatt is my fave. read more

Well stocked market for Kosher and they sell produce as well! I am not on Kosher but it so happens that this is the nearest store by our building. I always buy my lunch here, they sell hot food. Really good middle eastern selection -- you can buy a lunch meal for $7.99+ with good portions! It comes with choice of sides (usually rice, pasta or potatoes), meat (chicken, kabob, turkey, salmon -- but salmon comes in a premium price of $8.99+) and vegetables. My favorite veggie side is the Ghormeh sabzi. It's an Iranian Herb Stew with beef. It looked kind of weird if you haven't tried it, but if you're wanting to try something new and middle eastern, this is recommended. I don't see this in other persian/middle eastern restaurants elsewhere. They have good wine selection and also serve prepared food like sushi, quinoa and others. When I'm in a rush I also do some vegetable shopping here. It's surprisingly cheaper than going to other groceries because you just buy how much you need at a lower price too. Love it! I stumbled in Pico Glatt by mistake one afternoon and am pleasantly surprised that I did. I've come here on a few occasions, primarily for produce (when Stan's isn't open or if I'm looking for something they don't carry.) the quality and prices beat any of the large supermarket chains by a mile. Seriously - what Pico Glatt sells tastes much, much better! This past weekend we checked out some of their meats - purchased a whole chicken. Man behind the counter was super nice in finding us "the smallest of the big chickens." I think our bird was around 3 lbs and cost ~$7. Fresh, wrapped up, and good to go! We were asked if we wanted it whole, diced, etc., so great that they're accommodating for that. I look forward to coming back and trying other meats! read more

We come here because there are a variety of kosher product options, but I've never been treated more like a second class citizen at any other store. Just because I'm female and not an Orthodox Jew does not make me lesser than other customers, or my money less green. The other day was the final straw and I won't be back. There was a guy helping a family bag their groceries - when they were finished, he looked at me and my husband, walked away to get his Gatorade, and then came back, stood at the end of the register, and played on his phone until we had checked out and fully bagged our own groceries. I'm regular customer for 5 years but yesterday was the worst experience of my life. I got attacked in parking lot by other driver over parking spot and I got another attacked by guy who stood before me in the cashier line. He started to argue with me for pretty much nothing as soon as he saw me in the line, he said crazy stuff like do you think you're queen of shopping because you are beautiful or do you think you're the only one who is here to shop? he was obviously trying to harass me. I didn't respond because I believe gentleman never argue with lady unless he is a jerk and if you respond to that jerk you put your self in his level. After couple of minutes in the line some other guy who had a shopping card full of grocery shopping cut the line and got him self in middle of me and the first guy, I asked what's going on, the first guy answered ' this guy was in here before you came and he went to grab something so he is back now' i said I don't buy this because it wouldn't work like that, he had to leave his shopping card in the line or you had to let me know about him when I first got in the line. So the second guy said it's ok you can go first but the first guy said NO, h was here first and you can't go and what's a different anyways. I said it is different because it takes another minimum 20 minutes for me to wait. Cashier got involved when she saw the first guy raised his voice and she asked him to stop bothering me. He didn't pay attention to the cashier and non stoped harassed me until he forced me to left the store without purchasing my items. This morning I called the store manager and explained the situation to him but he didn't even say sorry, he just said our holidays are coming up and the store is busy and he hanged up on me. In search of seeds, both fenugreek and brown mustard, I crossed Beverly; wandered into Pico Glatt Market, a detour I'd been meaning to make for some years now. Far larger than the façade indicates, this particular Friday morning, I navigated the narrow aisles along with a throng of shoppers filling their baskets with everything from pre-fab Shabbat dinners, to gluten-free pastas, to sushi, to soft loaves of pita. Fenugreek seeds found; shelved next to many other herbs and spices, generously packaged, inexpensive, I browsed. Selection and pricing is impressive, mainstream competitive for such a modest grocer; brown onions were only .33 per pound. However, I found the leafy greens tired, the tomatoes anemic (a bad produce day perhaps) and the uncovered, multiple sneezes of a gentile staffer good reason to skedaddle. I will go back, especially for the Lubavitch, pre-packaged ground beef; lean, flavorful. Use immediately or freeze - no "packed on" or "sell by" date posted! What makes me a huge yid is that I hesitate to even write a review for fear of jinxing the quality of Pico Glatt's butcher (whisper with me now: kinehora). Thankfully, I'm much more of a skeptical atheist these days so I bestow my enlightenment to my fellow Yelpers. Greater interest will only help the world - right? Pico Glatt is the best kosher butcher in the entire city. Yes. The entire mufuh'in city. There is a Rabbi standing watch over the teaming horde of knife wielding Mexican butchers. G dash D help you if you cross one of the frum ortho ladies Friday morning as they sniff every cut of meat held under their gorgeous, gigantic noses. But let me tell you about those cuts of meat. The chickens are so fresh you can still see them twitch in the glass case. The beef is so tender, so good, you'll kidnap one of the women and force them to make you brisket at gunpoint. (And isn't slave-made brisket the best brisket? Passover shout-out!) But seriously, folks. The market is fine and good, cramped and difficult to navigate. You can get your zatar and gefilte. But the meat, oh, the meat! Here's a tip for my goyim readers who have stuck with me so far in this review, leaden with Hewbris - buying good kosher meat saves you the step of brining. Brining denatures the proteins in meat allowing moisture to permeate the flesh and infuse flavor and succulence. Kosher meat is salted to drain the blood - part of Talmudic law (Kosher = how to stay alive in the desert 4,000 years ago). And by doing this extra salting step, the meat's proteins unspool themselves for your cooking ease. Use kosher meat!* *Not to be confused with Halal meat, which are animals prepared according to the Koran's writings. Halal meat must be slaughtered in the same Kosher method - a clean slash to the neck of a healthy animal that allows the blood to drain quickly. Muslims are allowed to use kosher meat since it is slaughtered properly {though not blessed}, but there is no reciprocity from the Jews because the butcher was not a shochet.) I just recently started shopping here when I developed a dependency on dried apricots. Don't ask, but it's quite serious. I can't do *all* of my shopping all of the time here because the selection is limited, but for a good deal of the time I find that not only keeps my costs down, but my focus narrow and my mood even. I find grocery stores so exasperating lately with the nine million options; I want food, not boxes of chemicals. Pico Glatt has lots of imported kosher products, including a lot of weird substitute products I've come to love as a person allergic to everything. They even carry my beloved Daiya cheese. They have the delicious fat pitas that only middle eastern markets have (catch up America, your pitas suck) and while the cost on meat is higher due to the laws of kashrut, the costs on produce? holy mother... wait wrong store. In any case, the produce costs are ridiculous. I bought an eggplant for 69 cents yesterday. 69 cents. They are 1.19 per pound at Albertsons. I'll wait while you do that math. And of course as mentioned, dried apricots. They have all manner of dried fruits and nuts here. Weird fruits, like sugared limes, and the usual suspects (raisins, prunes.) I will come here for apricots and fat pitas until I die. read more

Oy Vay! Pico Glatt is a metsieh (a lucky find). It is a convenient little Kosher market that sells fresh produce, meats, and pastries. I shop at this market every time I make my bubeleh style matzo ball soup. I prefer this market to the Glatt on Pico-Robertson, because it isn't as crazy busy or congested as that store. I shop here mostly for veggies, Turkish coffee for my sweetie, and Sabra products. Pico Glatt is a hodgepodge of tightly organized products and reasonably priced produce. If you want to take a foreign trip, but don't have $, check out Glatt for a short trip to Israel. The Latino employees, always helpful and kind sing along to the music in Hebrew under their breath and even speak some Hebrew, Persian and English! The price of produce is so amazingly cheap - you wonder why everyone doesn't shop here. Since many Persians shop here too, they have wonderful fresh herbs also at ridiculously cheap prices, cilantro, parsley, tarragon, fenugreek and more. The BEST BAGUETTES we have found in the city are here; nice and warm, a long slender branch of fresh bread in a paper sleeve in a large basket in front of the bakery area. Prepared food area is also reasonably priced and delicious if you don't have time to cook. Lots of products from Israel too and of course KOSHER. read more

Love the prices, love the products. Sure, I cannot shop here for everything my white palate needs, but what I can get here you can bet is for the best price. Avocados for $0.69, the freshest, stickiest dates you will ever see, pre-packed but very fresh sushi, a HUGE variety of cheeses (brie, smoked gouda, dill havarti, etc.), sweet potato butter (what, you didn't know that was a thing?), fresh sliced deli meats (mexican spiced turkey - yum!), freshly baked pita and Jerusalem bagels (long stretched out bagels w/ sesame seeds), blueberries for $0.99, raspberries for $1.99...you get the point. Basically, this place rocks, and it is so much fun to browse the crowded aisles and look for products they charge an arm and a leg for at whole foods (rosewater, pomegranate molasses, date syrup, nutella). I've been a fan of Pico Glatt Mart for a number of years, making it a point to shop here whenever I pass through L.A. But today I had an experience that was annoying and surprising and made me think that maybe it's time to check out the other kosher markets on Pico. I placed an 18-pack of HaOlam string cheese on the checkout counter. The checkout clerk told me "$10" before he rang it up, and I handed him a $10 bill. Then he rang it up and the total very clearly came to $9.99. I paused, waiting him to hand me the $0.01, but he just placed the bill in the register, handed me the receipt, and averted eye contact. Now, it's not that I care about pennies. In a case like this, being that it is supposed to be a frum Jewish establishment, my gripe is on principle (isn't this equivalent to using false weights?). I'm used to salespeople rounding down, but I've never heard of them rounding up in their favor. I think they have a name for those type of salespeople. And if they have no shame rounding up, now I'm wondering if they ever made "mistakes" ringing up my more expensive market purchases. Another time, a few months ago, I noticed they were selling 2009 Terrenal wines for $12 a bottle. Yes, the exact same wine they sell at Trader Joe's for $4 a bottle. Dai lemevin. That being said, I agree with everyone else that they have a great selection of kosher goods and generally reasonable prices, relatively speaking. read more

The best time to shop here is early in the morning. Parking is difficult any other time and the pushing and shoving crowds are impossible later in the day. The store is tiny and it is insane to try to go there when it is crowded. So, let's get back to morning shopping. It is quiet, I know many of the employees and get to say hello to them. The sushi chef is just putting out his first sushis of the morning. BTW, their sushi is great and inexpensive. Their oranges and grapefruit are so inexpensive, I don't know how they sell them for so little. Their deli take-out section is fabulous. Sometimes they have a barley-mushroom-chicken-with hint of lemon soup that is wonderful. You got to spend a little time here to get to know the nooks and crannies of this store. The best local market for meat/produce in the Pico Robertson area. They also make fresh hot food daily and also package house made salsas, hummus, sauces and sushi! I always buy my salmon here since it looks and tastes way more fresh than other grocery stores around. They have a great selection of chocolates and ice creams as well! On Sunday's they have a guy cooking fresh kabobs outside. Definitely make sure to try it for lunch, it's awesome. read more

Don't think you are getting quality because of the price because you are not. Their parking situation sucks. It's a very small lot in an overcrowded neighborhood. Used to shop here all the time but have been very upset to see that they are taking ABSOLUTELY NO COVID PRECAUTIONS. The manager of the store was even walking around without a mask on. I love this place!! Very friendly staff and great prices!! The take out food is AMAZING!! They have a decently sized parking lot and its free unlike other places I've been too which makes shopping a breeze! They're produce is very fresh and their meats are top of the line!
