First off, I got it to go but the pizza was still awesome and the two ladies working were busy and still getting it done. After our experience last year, I was curious to see if anything had improved. We were staying with some family members that had never been there, so we offered to pick up some pies on the way back to the house. Before we left the house, we had agreed that at least one pizza would have bacon, which was offered on several. We got there about 4:30 and there was no one there. We started off by ordering the pizza with the bacon. We were told that they were out of bacon. Really? They still haven't figured out how much to order? I told her that we'd had a bad history of getting pizza there that had either the wrong ingredient or they were out of whatever we ordered. At this point, a good place would have offered something to make up for the continued issues, but not here. It's not like bacon is a rare commodity or that the were in the middle of a rush of bacon fanatics, the place was empty, and they were all standing around. Why wasn't someone restocking missing ingredients? Okay, no bacon, so I asked if they could substitute prosciutto. She told me it would be an up-charge because prosciutto is "so expensive." We asked how much and she said $2. Interestingly, the regular up-charge for that ingredient, as it's listed on the menu, is only $1, so I wasn't very happy. We substituted something else. We ordered two more pies and told her that we would be back at 7:15 to pick them up. She promised that they would be ready. We got there at 7:17. I saw one of the pies sitting on the counter in an open box, just chillin', so to speak. The other two were not done, so we waited. When we got them back to the house (about 20 min.,), the first one was barely lukewarm, so I don't know how long it had waited. The other two, while hotter, had hardly any toppings on them. We ended up, between the pies and the tip paying $60 for disappointing, barely acceptable food. I don't think we'll be going back. read more

Sometimes you know before you step inside that you are about to have an amazing experience. Pie on the Mountain is just such a place full of character, happiness, and some of the best Pizza you have ever eaten. I noticed that there had been some criticism in some posts about the young folks working here, especially as servers. All 6 in my party agrees these young folks were courteous, knowledgeable, happy, and made our experience beyond delightful. I was especially taken by how everyone works together from cooking, cleaning, and serving. We enjoyed a salad and three of their most popular pizzas. All three were a eclectic and delicious. As we all can agree, a great Pizza must begin with a great crust. This beautifully thin crust, hand tossed pizza has the best crust we have ever tasted! I have attached photos which included the complete menu, so I will leave it up to you to make your choices. There are no bad ones...so feel free to experiment and try something different like the mountain man pizza (like I did) End your meal with one of their warm homemade cookies....then enjoy writing yet another great review for this small town pizzeria with a huge heart and fantastic pizza! By the way, I am not the only one who loves their Pizza as they have recently been selected as the third best pizza in North Carolina. I stopped in yesterday and were extremely disappointed at the service! We sat for about 5 minutes without being asked about drinks. The servers were all teenagers doing nothing but hanging out! The boy that finally came over was rude and couldn't do more than mutter "what do you want". Another employee came in the door and ended up working our table thankfully! As I ran out of tea I looked around to see all those teenagers were gone and our server, Shelby, was working just about every table! Ten minutes later the teens came back from doing nothing!! We have gone here for years. We called prior to arriving to make sure cooks and wait staff were following pandemic recommendations. We were told they were. Hands down without a doubt my favorite restaurant and the only restaurant I am a regular of. Great, fresh, local ingredients and phenomenal cooks, really nice atmosphere, attentive waiters, clean dining area and restroom all combine for the ultimate dining experience at a good price. The staff are always friendly and quick to recommend and help you through the menu. Me and my girlfriend are hooked to their food and we dine in and carry out regularly. Our favorite is the large Traditional White pizza with pepperoni added, it is the best pizza I have ever ate and the crust is just so good!! I recommend me this quirky little restaurant to all my friends and family and I am sure within a week I'll be back again to fuel my newly found obsession. Edit: This review is for my last visit, 7-22. I am removing the five stars from the last review and changing it to a one star. I'm leaving the old review because I like to think my favorite restaurant will return to its former glory. If after returning here and my next visit is good, I will delete all this and change it back to a five star. I honestly think that I have never dealt with a ruder waiter before. My waiter, for the brief minutes he was bothered by our presence enough to help us, was a teenage boy who seemed to care less about doing his job. After setting there for five minutes, I was met with a rude, "What do you want to drink?". During the whole time he took our order nothing was said, nor did he even look at us. I suppose his tablet was more interesting than customers. After this, we were out of drinks for over 5 minutes because he literally disappeared for the entire time we were there. Another older lady then took over, and she seemed to be the only one doing anything. She was very nice and did a great job. The other, fellow, teenage waiters also disappeared for five minutes at a time, leaving tables without drinks and without placed orders. I can only imagine that they were on their phones after reading other reviews. They also seemed too distracted with talking to each other to do their jobs properly. The older lady was left, many times, being the only waiter in a totally full restaurant. The food was great, but the wait staff was terrible. Absolutely my favorite place ever. The pizza is incredible and the ranch is the BEST. Always packed and always busy but your wait time is well worth it. Very affordable and wonderful for leftovers the next day. Not that there are any... while you're waiting for a seat it's cool to just stroll through downtown Lansing. UPDATE: I'm updating this review in hopes it can go back to 5 star one day soon. I've been a customer 4-5 years and while the pizza is AMAZING the management sucks. There is ALWAYS something going on... won't answer the phone, water outage, staff shortage and always seem to be out of multiple ingredients. Only open for takeout right now but went in 4th of July and they were out of ranch dressing of all things. There were 6 staff members in the building and only one working. The same one who is always working while everyone else is sitting. You'd think they have been open long enough by now to manage inventory. Kinda sad to have such a good product but not be able to manage the business. Hopefully they will return to former glory soon. Still worth the stop if you're passing through just make sure you have plenty of time to wait for a pizza and be prepared to change your order or do without something. We had a terrible experience here on 4th of July weekend. I thought it might have been a fluke and they got blindsided by the holiday crowd but after reading other reviews I think our experience is quite common. We came in and sat down around 3pm, took at least 15 minutes for an employee to even acknowledge us. No AC. They were out of most beers and many other pizza ingredients. We ordered waters and tea which took another 15 minutes to arrive and there was like 2 cubes of ice in each cup. I was thirsty as hell and drank about half my tea before I realized there was like an inch of some kind of shit stuck on the inside bottom of the cup. Got a new cup and tea (another 15min). About 45 minutes later our pizza arrived and it was the complete wrong pizza. They asked if we wanted to wait for them to cook the right pizza and I basically told them I was taking the pizza they brought to go and we weren't paying for anything. They didn't argue because they knew they had messed up pretty bad. We were there a total of 1.5 hrs. I don't blame the employees, they were working very hard but management should have closed for at least the day until they could get their shit together. They're doing great if their goal is to half ass run a pizza joint! read more

Drove from one side of the county to the other to eat at this restaurant. It was around three o'clock on Saturday afternoon July 6th. All but one table was occupied. The unoccupied table was dirty. No one else was waiting for a table. My wife and I stood at the door waiting for a table for eight minutes. There were six or more employees behind the counter that never even acknowledged we were there. This is a small place just larger than a large living room where the employees could definitely see us waiting. A nod, a hand gesture, or a word could have been communicated to indicate they would be with us soon. However we were just ignored. This is not how a business shows its appreciation of its customers. Every time we go to Ashe County, we make a mandatory stop at POM. We love the fresh salad- loved all the local and colorful tomatoes, and the wide variety of pizza toppings. Well, had high expectations. Pizza had good taste but ingredients were at best skimpy. We ordered the large carnivore and the crust was almost 3 inches all around with only a smattering of sauce in an area or two. Not to mention hideous music playing in the kitchen (screeching violins). I asked the waitress to please do something and she kind of laughed and seemed to try but to no avail. All in all, it was like being tortured in an insane asylum - a total nightmare! All I can say is if you dine in be prepared to wait for a very very very long time and receive extremely poor service. We went by on a Saturday afternoon after receiving numerous recommendations from the locals in West Jefferson expecting a great experience. When we sat down a waiter came by and tossed menus on the table didn't explain anything and seemed very unhappy to be there. We ordered 3 kid pizzas and two personal pizzas and drinks. And began to wait and wait and wait. There were about 3 other families/couples in the restaurant also waiting so the place didn't seem swamped so the wait seemed excessive. There were about 7 people (young college age) behind the counter and small kitchen seemingly doing nothing except to be face down looking at their phones. Finally after about 40 minutes the waiter comes back out with what we thought was our pizzas. Nope. That was for the other table that had apparently been there longer than we had been. At this point we had been there almost an hour, drinks no longer cold and our pizzas finally started to come out. Not all at once but a few at a time with no "sorry for the wait" or any explanation at all. Honestly I was at the point of going back to the kitchen and making them myself. Now the pizzas we had were very good-exceptional which is why I gave this place three stars. I can see why so many rave about it. If they had been average pizzas I would have only given one star as the service and staff attitude were terrible. We also ordered a few slices of blueberry cake at the beginning of our order and had to get up and head over to ask our waiter if we could get our desserts after we ate our pizzas...sorry to interrupt whatever you're doing on your phone but can we get this over with... After we finished eating the waiter came over an took our credit card using an iPad service that presented the option for a tip when I asked him..,"What type of tip do you expect to get?" His reply..."Whatever you want man...". There was no cause for that. Other than our order we hadn't exchanged any other words and we had been polite the entire time. Now I don't usually give reviews on sites but I hope the owner sees this and tries to right the ship on their Service experience. If they did they would be 5 stars all day long. Maybe this is really only a take out place that has a few tables just in case you happen to need a place to sit while you wait on your carry out. I don't know. So for all those that happen to travel to Lansing as a destination or pass through here's my tip. Order ahead over the phone about 30 minutes out, grab your pizzas and drinks and head across the street to the park and enjoy by the river. Hope this helps. read more

Great little pizza joint hidden in the mountains. Just driving thru the area and stopped to walk the dogs at a really cool greenway across the street. The pie was cooked perfect and half meat half veggie turned out delicious . Also got a few wings. Not bad but the pizza is the reason you go here. Definitely recommend it read more
