I really love this place- it's a classic. This bar has enough personality for the whole west village. The decor is simple and relatively dark. They have a bunch of events from Karaoke to Drag nights so there typically is something to do beyond just drinking, but even if you want to, the drinks are reasonably priced and boozy enough. What is not to love? Strolled in a Wednesday night with two other people and it was fantastic. Showtunes blasting in the place. One or two drag queens and twinks galore. My friend was having a heart attack and he wanted to gobble up some men. :::BATHROOM ALERT::: Ok now ladies do not expect to get a big bathroom it is not about humans who have vaginas. There is a sign that says women get priority over this single bathroom but do not expect that rule to be executed. Its a male gay bar it isn't about you ladies so get over it. On the opposite side of the "womens" bathroom is the mens room (which is always an open door) has I believe two or 3 stalls all open. Each on has about a 4 foot barrer so you cannot peek over at another mans junk. The "womens" bathroom however we quite clean. The bartenders here were very sweet. The drink prices were good and a nice vibe was really flowing. We even made a friend and dragged him to two other bars with us. read more

Decent bar, strong drinks but still overpriced, great drag performers and fun shows. It was my go to bar in NYC until the bouncer decided to steal my driver's license on Halloween night. I'm 23 years old and have a valid DL, which the bouncer seemed to think was a fake and refused to give it back until I had the police arrive (an hour after I called them, while I was obviously trying to enjoy my Halloween night with friends at the bar). I hope the bouncer (shortish guy, thin, refused to give his name and had a terrible attitude) either gets retrained on how to spot fakes or just fired, since he is ruining the bar with his incompetence at his job. read more

Pieces is a dark, campy, dingy, tacky gay dive bar... It's great!!! $2 happy hour. You'll be ready to hit the floor after 3 or 4 drinks. They pour generously and the only difference is they switch to house liqour for the hh. Bingo on Saturdays is fantastic. We've won money and had a blast doing it. Their movie night is hilarious. While a crappy B-movie that you probably secretly love plays, a tranny will constantly comment and tear the movie apart. Of course, the drunker she gets, the better it gets. Come for the drinks, the ambience, the occasional hottie and a damn good time. Bring friends or it's just going to be sad. read more

The drinks are expensive and the place is always packed but I've come here multiple times to enjoy the music. This bar used to be safe space but in the past couple months they've completely changed. This weekend the bouncer grabbed my friend and pushed her. An adult man should not be using physical force against a young woman especially considering that she was not at all agressive in the situation. The waiter messed up our drinks, had roaches all over our table, and brought me the wrong card not once but four different times. Fun gay bar in NY. It's a smaller bar that packs a fun crowd. They had drag events most nights in the back. Bartenders are friendly. It does get busy. It would be nice if they cleared out tables and chairs during busier times to allow for more room. read more

Terrible. The wait staff is absolutely the most rude ever. Bar apparently has a 2 drink minimum and it's not posted anywhere in the back part of the bar where we were. I ordered one drink then he comes back with the drink and informs me it's a two drink minimum. This is by design because the bar knows most people just wouldn't order anything if they knew that in advance. The bartender Steven was incredibly rude to my female friend. He threatened to keep her card if she didn't order a second drink. In which case she had to remind him it was illegal to do such a thing. In addition, the crowd at the bar was well beyond what the fire marshal would ever allow or consider to be safe. Shame on this establishment and their employees for being rude and for their unethical practices. Formal complaints are next on my list. read more

This is the third time I've been to pieces and I do not plan to ever come back again. The Dominican bouncer with the nose ring was incredibly rude to my girlfriend. We were talking about how the bouncers at stonewall Inn were incredibly rude and out of no where the Dominican bouncer was telling my girlfriend who is indigenous Indonesian (aka brown skinned) that she was white. This was an incredibly triggering experience for her because during this time she has been subjected to anti-Asian harassment. She is incredibly proud of her identity and for a random American to question it, not only is it incredibly unprofessional but also very discriminatory. If this place truly preaches inclusivity, I would consider whether this bouncer is a true representation of the establishment. read more

Not my favorite experience in the city but a little fun. There was a drag show going on, yay!!! I live a great show! We went in on a Saturday night about 8pm. This could be part of the problem. Something tells me this place is off the chain late night. There was a bachelorette party with 4 ladies, and they were older. There were two ladies preforming and they were fun. I could see that they had rehearsed their moves and it wasn't their first rodeo! The lack of customers was a bummer. It placed too much attention on us, and I avoid attention on me at any cost. They also trash talked if they weren't tipped. I didn't like that. We stayed for two songs and raced out as the third began. We waited so they wouldn't call us out. Haha. One of the most horrible experiences as a gay poc. Having the bartender give me the tab of the only other south/southeast Asian person there. And not only that refusing to give me my actual check. He gave the same bill back to me 3 times. Then finally after getting my tab right he threw my check at me and rolled his. I have never been in such a situation where I was ashamed of being a poc. This was my first ever time at a Drag Bingo and it was so much fun. The Queen was hilarious and my whole group loved it. I did not drink, but they said their drinks were good. It's a decent gay bar in the west village but it lacks magic. The drag queen hostesses are nice enough with the exception of one, who's jokes are always in poor taste and sadly doesn't ever try writing new material. The new collaboration with Spunk dancers is quite exciting though. They really work the pole which is a ton of fun and the hostess is wonderful. The VJ/DJ is great, service is good and as long as you're ordering at the bar the drinks are quick. For me, there's nothing on a regular night that sets this place apart. With Julius holding down the title of local watering hole, Duplex being the entertainment spot, Monster being the dance/dancer and piano joint... there's not much left. We've met some wonderful people here. I can't complain. It's just not that special. If you're looking for the magic of New York, and it isn't the Spunk dancers night, I'd skip it. read more

Came here for Drag Bingo on Sunday. This is the worst bingo EVER!! The service was great and awesome!! But the bingo made me to give a 1 star because it stressed me out!!! The drag queen yelled out number almost every 2 SECONDS!!! A bingo paper involved 4 bingo games in each play!! So in 2 freaking seconds, you have to look at all for games!? This is ridiculous!! Would not come back again for bingo as well as would not recommend for this place to anyone because the bingo is the worst (not because of I didn't win anything because I did won, but the speed was challenging everyone in the bar and not professional). Would just come here for drinks instead because service are great. read more

I love this place! Me and my man went here on a recent Monday while visiting the city. We saw that someone on yelp claimed $4 drinks until 8pm so we were game. Once we arrived and ordered our drinks it came out to $5 a drink (you can't beat that in the city!) plus it made us buy like 5 each lol. Little did we know that every Monday night the people in the bar have the pleasure of a beautiful drag performance from multiple beautiful queens! I was here one Saturday last Spring when there was an event going on, and my friends were super late meeting me. So I ended up making out with and getting free drinks from this unbelievably hot bartender. I felt like the belle of the ball. Then a week later I found out another friend of mine had made out with the same guy the night before me, so instead I felt like the belle of Sluttown. But I suppose that's neither here nor there. The place is fun and has good energy, and the drinks are pretty affordable, not that I've ever paid for one. I'll probably update this after I do a Tuesday night karaoke, but right now it gets 4 stars because a) hot bartender and b) it's not totally filled with assholes. UPDATE 10/19/07: I just reread this review and noticed that it said "the cheaps are pretty affordable." You guys really need to let me know when I've made such a stupid typo! Seriously, we're supposed to be a family here. Also, I've done a Tuesday night karaoke, and it's totally fun. THIS PLACE IS HEAVEN ON EARTH. Wow. Wowowowow. I have not had this much fun during a night out in the city in quite a long time. At least not this kind of unadulterated, high energy, wild and crazy elation. This is Pieces on a Saturday night. And I'm guessing most nights of the week, honestly. Came here on a Saturday night for SINFUL SATURDAYS. And sinful, it was. A friend of a friend discovered Pieces a few months ago and has been coming for the drag show on Saturday nights for weeks now. As soon as I walked in, the allure of this place was immediately apparent. Pieces is loud, colorful and just so damn HAPPY. It's impossible not to smile while you're there. Everyone seems to be having an amazing time - it's just one long party. Not in a snobby/clubby/sleazy way. Like in a pure, life-is-beautiful-and-i'm-embracing-every-second-of-it way. Clearly I had a good time. One warning: you will probably not hear the phrase "drink responsibly" while here. This is not to say that people were falling all over the place, but debauchery is certainly encouraged (it's called "Sinful Saturdays" after all). Drinks are cheap and you'll find that if you're not careful, you can down a pretty impressive number of them in a pretty short period of time (I personally didn't, just an observation). Now for the music/show - which is why we came in the first place. Both queens were unbelievable. The main girl had a body that most girls would dream of. I was with a group of mostly girls on Saturday night, and we were all quite envious. I wish I could remember her stage name - I think it was a pun on Judy Garland, but I can't recall what it actually was (the other's name was Britta Filter - now that's just brilliant). Judy (I'll just refer to her as that for the purposes of this review) could SING (she did in her first number) but the show itself is mostly lip syncing. They have these interesting "mixes" - so it takes more "skill" (I'm not entirely sure that lip syncing is a talent, but they make a good case for it here) than your average Lip Sync Battle type deal. In any case, it's fun, it's hilarious, it's fabulous...did I say wow already? I danced, I drank, I sang at the top of my lungs, and I reveled in happiness. YAAAAS QUEENS!!! read more

To add insult to injury, one of the staff told her "this is not your bar" - even though we paid for all of our drinks (in cash, no less) and tipped well. Never again. read more

Hey, you, the one other straight guy who lives on Christopher St. If you find yourself tagging along to the gay bar scene with your wife and pals every so often, I've always found Pieces to be a pretty cool spot. Granted, I never go when it's slammed, but we always have a pretty good time, no trouble reaching the bar, and generally enjoy the music and atmosphere. For me, Pieces falls second only to Duplex for this kind of scene. Some of my friends Love this place, some say take it or leave it, but none of them out right dislikes it. In my book, that's a win. read more

The sheer proximity of this bar from work is enough of a reason to swing by and grab a drink(s). $3 everything Happy Hour? How do people stay sober, ever. Then you add in that this is a gay bar with karaoke night on Tuesdays? What you get is the most fun you can have on a Tuesday. Or damn near the most fun you can have on a Tuesday. You don't need to be gay to drink here. I was one of maybe a handful of straight people in there and never once did I feel out of place or unwanted. The bartender(s) were cordial. Of course, I did have friends with me that frequent here so that helped. Now, back to the karaoke night. They have a decent selection. They have a stage where you will have to go up to perform. But everyone is drunk, tipsy and having a good time that even for those that are bitten by stage fright will be put at ease singing in front of a crowd here.
