I've been passing this hidden gem off the I-5 and didn't know it was that close to me until…read morerecently. I wanted to go on an adventure for the Labor Day weekend. I immediately noticed that this popular trail was very well maintained. I looove how there are different trails leading to Solana Beach...San Elijo Lagoon...Nature Center...under the I-5 Highway...etc. Overall, it was a memorable hike with gorgeous views, easy trailhead access, signage all around to follow and navigation through a fun sandstone slot canyon. I highly recommend it to the Yelp Community :-)

Heard about this unique trail on Instagram. Wasn't discouraged by negative remarks of it being off…read morethe 5 South. It was scenic and thought it was cool to see the highway in the distance. The hike/walk leading to the narrows is pretty. There's an easier path to the top if you choose to avoid the narrows. You get the great view either way. I don't know what's worse, the etched writing in the narrows or people ahead of you using their cameras too much for social media likes. The first ladder rung at the end climb was a bit of a challenge cuz I'm 5 feet, 1 inches. Definitely a worthwhile hike. I'd say our visit lasted no more than 90 minutes. We met some friendly people and parking was easy in the quiet surrounding neighborhood.

There are birds to see and sea lions too. You can also see the mansions that are out here too, some lucky humans own those. Its probably about 1/2 mile so nothing too strenuous and lots of benches along the way to take in the gorgeous scenery. Definitely stop by here when near La Jolla Cove!

A panoramic view of the La Jolla coastline gave me a feeling of peace and tranquility just hearing the sound of the silent waves and bustling wind !!! Honestly the stairs are one too many for me so I just sat down and enjoyed the view from the wooden bench!

All of it was fantastic and the views were breathtaking. The hiking trails are easy in my opinion with some hills or steps on one of them. You can pick what you want to do/from different trails and get out and enjoy the scenery. Of all my things to do in this area, this is one of my favorites for the scenery. I can't recommend it enough!

We had limited time at the reserve, so we entered through the south entrance and paid $20 to enter and park. We then made our way up to the visitor center and had no issues finding parking. During our visit, we did the Guy Fleming Trail, which is a very easy and scenic 0.8-mile loop. The cliff views were dramatic and beautiful, and we also loved that the trail felt very peaceful and quiet. Afterward, we drove down to the beach lot and walked along the beach for about an hour to admire the cliffs from below. Overall, it was an amazing visit and one of our favorite stops in San Diego. I would definitely return again.

I had heard a lot about the "Ho Chi Minh Trail" and finally tried it over a recent weekend. I am…read morenot sure who discovered or developed this hike, but it felt like, "Hey, let's follow the natural erosion of the land and create a shortcut to Black's Beach from the residences in La Jolla Farms." The number of people who were either barefooted or were wearing flip flops to make this trek really surprised me. I was wearing hiking shoes and was fortunate to only pick up a couple of minor scrapes along the way. The views of the canyons, the bluffs, and the hang gliders overhead were very beautiful so there were plenty of photo opportunities. I felt the hassle to descend towards the beach was not worth the short journey. The path was only about 3/4 mile in distance one way which I completed in about 20 minutes. Trekking poles were not at all useful, and they became a hindrance in a few areas. This was a hike in which you should NOT bring children or dogs. If you have a fear of heights, then you may also want to think twice before trying this trail. There were at least two or three very treacherous spots in which a slip could lead to a nasty fall with a concussion, sprain, fracture, or even death as an outcome. There are many other hiking locations in San Diego County that are more rewarding than the La Jolla Trail.

Maple Canyon Trail is a sweet urban joy, and I love stopping here after work for an easy stroll…read more This trail begins at the end of a residential street that's very limited for parking - but I usually find a spot, It's quite different after renovation over the past two years. It's less quaint, but maybe safer terrain. The trail is much wider, the logs for having a break or climbing are gone, they replaced the bridges, and they've installed terracing with decorative concrete blocks where the creek runs in spring. I think it's flowing underground so those areas are now managed to avoid soggy earth? I love this spot in spring, so we'll see if the daisies and nasturtiums return. It's fun to get a glimpse of planes landing at the airport while having a walk through the canyon. The trail goes under the First Street bridge and the Quince Street bridge. I love hearing the birds in this space. Last night my Merlin Bird app picked up the typical, plus wrens, oriole, munia, towhee, and more.

Plenty of parking if you park at the baseball field and they open at 6am. It is mostly flat with slight inclines during the hike but it's no too bad. The challenge comes if you decide to hike down to the actual waterfall because it is a bit steep but there is plenty of space to view it from the top of the cliff.

The trail I went on was well worn and went through canyon and up the hill towards the Qualcomm parking lot and down the hill on path leading back the parking lot off Sorrento Valley Blvd. on the west side of the preserve. It was a very nice walk and hike. In the canyon, there were a lot of beautiful Californian live oak trees, Californian Sycamores, and Freemont Cotton Woods, not to mention a lot of native shrubs and flowering plants. I was surprised to find wild squash vines fruiting in many places near the seasonal stream. I enjoyed the paths when they found their way through the shade of all the giant trees. I do look forward to exploring more of the canyon and what has to offer. The next hike will be to the seasonal waterfall.

A local and tourist fav!…read more Cowles Mountain is a San Diego classic and the highest point in the city (~1,593 ft.), which means this short hike hits HARD! The main trail is about 3 miles round-trip with a steady, rocky incline. Be prepared to have your heart pumping fast with some heavy breathing. Who needs a warm up? Just come here! There are other trails in the surrounding areas and the popular 5-Peak Challenge. It's on my bucket list for sure! Cowles is one of the most popular hikes in San Diego, so the timing matters. Early weekday mornings are ideal unless you enjoy crowds. Parking is usually easy with street spots and a small lot if you're lucky. There's a restroom, but not fully stocked or well-maintained. So use if absolutely necessary. Bring enough water (especially on a hot day), wear good shoes with grip since it can get rocky along the trail. Don't forget to stop a few times to admire the view on the way up! The payoff is worth it. You get a 360 degree view of San Diego from the oceans to the mountains. Short, steep, sweaty, and effective! 4 stars on a good day and still one of my favorite quick workouts to get the adrenaline pumping!

There are some areas where the terrain is uneven and you'll be walking over rocks and some bigger rocks, so be cautious if you have bad ankles. It can also get muddy in some sections so don't wear shoes that you don't want to get dirty.

I saw a snake, didn't look threatening, but I don't know much about snakes, other favorite being the black mamba #Kobe!!! Another hiker alerted us that she had seen a few snakes on the way coming up, we were headed down, but didn't run into them. One trail runs along a creek, very peaceful. A wedding was taking place at the oak trail center. There's also a nice lap you could do around the reservoir, check out the personalized rock collection or leave one of your own!

The birds can be a bit annoying, but guess that comes with the great outdoors. Definitely a nice spot to chill, take a walk and get those steps in. This area feels safe and well maintained. When I went, there weren't too many people, so it was pretty peaceful. The trail can get busy and there are bathrooms along the way (I didn't use them though) There's plenty of parking here, but just be sure you leave on time for closing. I've heard they lock up and it can be an issue with getting out. (not sure how true this is but I won't chance it) There is more parking elsewhere with trail access too, I just personally haven't found it.

Lake Murray Service road walking trail is one of my go-to workouts--about 5.5 miles to the locked…read moregate and back. After entering the main entrance, follow the road and turn right where you will see a yellow locked gate. This is the beginning of the paved walking trail. There's plenty of parking at the main entrance, and the paved trail is perfect for walkers, runners, bikers, and even kids tagging along. It's basically a choose-your-own-adventure: bird watching, fishing (permit required), or just a casual picnic. Bonus perks: lots of porta potties and benches when you need a breather. If you're holding out for a real restroom, there's one just past the second baseball field--plan accordingly. Photo is attached to show where to locate this. Heads up: the main gate is closed every 2nd Tuesday of the month, but don't panic--you can still access the trail through the neighborhood entrance off Baltimore Drive. Hope you enjoy this walking trail as much as I do.
