It was a beautiful morning, so I decided to take a walk from my hotel down to the Embarcadero. I wandered out along Pier 14 to soak in the views and snap a few pics of the Bay Bridge. At the end of the pier, a few guys were out fishing, and you could catch the ferry coming and going just beside it. Whether you're a local or visitor, Pier 14 is a must visit place because it offers an up close and beautiful view of the Bay Bridge and also the water front of SF. It's a great place to see the Bay Bridge lights, come after dark and you have front row seats. Other than the views, you're also surrounded and steps away from the Ferry Building and lots of other restaurants to grab a bite and explore. Parking is kind of tough here given it's on the Embarcadero and if you're coming after dark, just be vigilant of your surroundings - this area is not as safe as it used to be. read more

Dock of the Bay! Pier 14 was not around when Steve Cropper and Otis Redding were writing the lyrics to the song, but it is around now and is one of the more popular piers with visitors. It lies between the Bay Bridge and the Ferry Building. It's primarily a pedestrian walkway, although these days you can expect to see scooters, bikes, skateboards, etc. almost everywhere! The Pier stretches far out into the bay with great views of the city skyline, the Bay Bridge and Yerba Buena Island. On a clear day you can even see the Golden Gate bridge on the far far left! So go sit in the mornin' sun and be sittin' there when the evenin' comes! You can watch the ships roll in; then watch 'em roll away again! This would be a very nice and beautiful place to visit, if it weren't for all the people hanging out, urinating and smoking weed. It reeks of marijuana and urine. There's a lot of graffiti on railings, trash cans, the ground, etc. The view from the end of the pier was nice though, looking in both directions, to the bridge and to the bay. read more

I've always loved Pier 14. Before the light show was installed on the Bay Bridge, it was an awesome spot to walk out on at night and feel one with the bay. Without the lights, all you could see was blackness. Turn around and you'd get an awesome view of San Francisco. Now, with the light show, you get a great close up view along with the lights of the city! During the day, it's just a great spot to walk out on for views. Both of the bridge and SF. It can be a little touristy during the day, but it's never been super crowded during a day visit. Pier 14 has always been one of my favorite piers. Pier 14 was the former breakwater for San Francisco's Downtown Ferry Terminal. After a 2.3 million revitalization project, the pier was opened to the public in of June 2006. I think it was money well spent! Today this 637-foot long pier offers sweeping views of the bay, city skyline, and ships gliding by. I like to walk out on the pier just before sunset and watch the lights on the bridge come on and then look back at the city. However, it is a great spot anytime of the day. read more

A new pedestrian pier dedicated to former Mayor Art Agnos opened to the public on 16 June 2006. Beyondchron.org article (http://www.beyondchron.org/news/index.php?itemid=3389) explains how Agnos stood strong to support the controversial proposal to reopen the waterfront after 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. I wasn't here during that time, but I could only imagine the battles he had to fight on such a bold move. I'm enjoying the outcome, which is a beautiful waterfront where I love jogging on weekends. Pier had several rotating chairs to sit back and enjoy the view of Ferry Building, downtown, and Bay Bridge. It gives you an unique view of the city without needing to drive to Treasure Island. There was a temporary sign that noted Pier is open 6am-8pm. read more

This has gotta be one of the most beautiful piers in San Francisco. I took a walk on it yesterday when it was sunny and clear (a gorgeous Sunday). People were strolling with their families, the blue of the sky reflected on the Bay. A gentle ramp starts your ascent onto the Pier. The railing looks like the curve on a rattan basket except it's silvery metal. Along the Pier there are pairs of chairs which you can sit in to admire the view but also spin around in a circle just for the fun on it! On the side at the base of the railings, a few ceramic tiles with pictures (sailboat, etc). The view is breathtaking! You can watch as tankers roll in. Cargo ships coming in and out. There are private boats, ferry boats, commercial vessels. If you love being near the water (without getting your feet wet), if you have someone to take on a walk (even a dog), this Pier is special: a little bit artsy, a little bit utilitarian, a little bit of what makes San Francisco unique. I had been to visit San Francisco many times before, but I had never heard of Pier 14 before my best friend mentioned she wanted to come and check it out. This pier is right next to the Ferry Building and since we came on a Saturday, the Ferry Building Farmer's Market was in full swing. Pier 14 was empty compared to the crowd that was right across the water - there were only a few fishermen or some couples walking along the pier also. The views from the pier were definitely a different perspective from what we normally see. There's a great view of the city from the end of the pier and also great views of the Bay Bridge. We went during the day, but I wish we had gone back to see it at night with the lights on Bay Bridge (we went during the winter). Glad my best friend dragged us out to this pier. I definitely recommend visiting it if you're already going to be going to the Farmer's Market or the Ferry Building. Cupid's Span is to the right of the pier as well. read more

Really beautiful Pier!! I feel like Pier 14 gets a lot less attention that it deserves, in a good way, that means it's not very crowded. Going onto Pier 14, you are lined parallel with the Bay Bridge - so you definitely get a great view of the Bay Bridge. When you walk out to the very end of Pier 14, turn around and you get a glamorous view of the tall skyscrapers behind you, on your right, a few ships and the Ferry Market, on your left the Bay Bridge. I LOVED coming here at night, especially if you like taking picture, this IS the place to be if you set your camera to 2 seconds shutter speed - WOW. The picture definitely looks better than the actual scene itself. read more

What better way to spend your time instead of being a productive worker? Why, walking to Pier 14 post lunch of course! Located just adjacent to the financial district in San Francisco, it offers beautiful views of the bay. It gives a great view of Oakland bridge and if you're lucky the Golden gate bridge at a distance. Next door is the historic Port of San Francisco and Ferry building. On the opposite side is the Rincon Park for your Instagram needs. When I need time to walk off a lunch, I like to walk to this pier to take in the ocean breeze and recollect my thoughts. All along the pier are seats if you're so inclined to sit and relax on company time. It doesn't get too touristy surprisingly, as the pier itself is rather non descipt and unassuming. read more

Hands down one of my favorite Piers in SF. Definitely one of the Piers that isn't as mainstream as its other counterparts, but definitely something I'd recommend to someone visiting SF, or for just a really beautiful view of the Bay Bridge. It's also a great place to walk with someone at the tailgate of a nice date, so you can end on a gorgeous view! The entryway will take you directly towards the water, where I especially love it because of how close you get to the water, and also for some gorgeous shots of the Bay Bridge. At night, the metal side railings have lights that will light up, leading you closer to the ocean. My favorite times to come here are at night, especially during the winter season, when the Bay Lights have their annual light shows dancing across the Bay lights. Or, if you're lucky enough to come when there's a Giant's game that ends at night, you can get a moderately decent view of the fireworks. Only cons is because you're walking out further to sea, you definitely will feel the wind and the cold a lot more, so I'd dress warmly at night! They also close the Pier at around 10:30ish-11 or so. Every time I come back to Pier 14, I always forget how much I love Pier 14 and fall back in love with it over and over again. I have yet to meet a person who hasn't loved Pier 14 as much as I do, and it still will be a place I will continue to frequent and bring people to. A definite recommend to go to in SF, and I doubt you'll have nothing less than an amazing experience! read more

My favorite pier in SF! I think the gate to the pier opens after 7am because it wasn't open when I got there at 645am on a Sunday. It's pretty brutal to sit out here in direct sunlight during the day, so the best time to go is at sunrise, sunset, or at night. Nice views of the Financial District and of the Bay Bridge. read more

TL;DR: Great views, nice little escape. I walk down the length of this pier twice daily during the week as part of a little route I do to get some exercise. The views on days when the weather is nice are fantastic! Bay bridge and Treasure Island in front of you, the whole sprawling city behind you...its a great place to stop and have a zen moment away from the hustle for a couple of minutes. Sometimes its cool to watch the ships roll by, other times you may catch the fisherman down at the end...I've even seen sea lions off the end of the pier. Also the Ray Gun Gothic Rocket Ship is just near the entrance, and you know that thing is awesome. read more

The two things you'll notice FOR SURE are cupids arrow (awww!) And the view of the bay bridge. SIGH. Yep feels like San Francisco 10/10. Great open air spot with terrific views of the bay, treasure island, shipping, and the bay bridge located right next to the ferry building. Parking is the bay area standard of no parking. Your best bet is of course to ditch the car in SF and bike/walk/bus/trolley/uber/whatever dos not involve driving, but failing that the embarcadero center parking garage isn't any too far away. By San Francisco standards anyway. The approaches to pier 14 offer some public art works that change from time to time, and for those that are interested in public sculpture type urban art will be in love. What pier 14 does best is offering fantastic views of the bay, and the bay bridge (this is not the golden gate bridge.) You can see treasure island, the port of oakland , alameda island and really excellent views of the SF skyline. It's a perfect spot to watch shipping come and go, and also the ferry traffic. Bonus awesome points for this being one of the best spots to view fireworks on new years eve. Sunsets and sunrises-when it's not foggy-also are fully spectacular. Potential downsides can include the typically not so warm days that are natural to San Francisco-you are prolly gonna want a jacket/sweater/hoody/something to keep the wind off-and the occasional super sketchy peeps that pretty much live on the waterfront. It's something of a long walk as well, but not anything strenuous, just longer then you may want after a day trekking the city. If you are out and about by the ferry building you should totally come here for the epic views. read more

One of the best night views (and general view) of the city can be found here in Pier 14. Before you walk across the pier, there are some notable structures that can be visited: 1. Cupid's Span 2. The tree structure with color-changing lights 3. Ferry Building I'd advise you to come here just before sunset and appreciate the breath-taking moment. This way, you can see the sunset and the beautiful skyscrapers of San Francisco light up after. You can also view the Bay Bridge with the new installation of lights which gives off an illusion of waves on the bridge. Unfortunately, a while back, there was a woman that was murdered here by an illegal immigrant and was not prosecuted because of that status which sparked outrage among people locally and nationally. However, you still can't beat view that it offers. Oh, and there's two PokeStop that generally has lures around it to catch Pokemon. There's also a Charmander and a Dratini nest nearby! ;) read more

Part of my morning run route, this is my favorite spot to stop, take a deep breathe, enjoy the glorious views of the bay and the bridge, and chill with my homies, the fishermen, down at the end of the pier. Conveniently located near the Ferry Building, this is also a good place to walk to on a foggy morning/afternoon with a flask of whiskey with which to spike your Blue Bottle coffee and grab a seat along the pier. Rain or shine, this is a fantastic place to be. Particularly because it seems to have not caught on as a real destination, especially at 6 a.m. So each and every morning, for just a few minutes, it's almost like it's mine-all-mine (and the fishermens'). read more

On the weekends, about the only place open for lunch nearby my office building is the Ferry Building, so I grab Delica's beef curry and come out to Pier 14 and sit in one of their beautifully designed rotating chairs. I love these chairs. With a simple U shaped back and a slightly tilted seat, the matte silver echoes the steel of the Bay Bridge. The Pier itself has thin multiple rails of stainless steel that ends with a circular platform out over the water. Swirling around in those chairs, you can choose your view: the Bay Bridge (probably my favorite view), downtown San Francisco, the water with some sailboats gliding over and the East Bay. On warm days, it's bliss to sit out here. I only dock it a star for that hideous Burning Man sculpture which belies a lack of taste in the city government office that chose the scultpure as well as lack of taste in the artist (if one should even call the creator of such an eyesore an artist). read more

So, San Franciscans, been to the wharf lately? Well, I did today because I missed the water. And since I was on my bike, I didn't want to have to ride it uphill both ways to the ocean, so I just went east. It's amazing along the Embarcadero. I was born and raised in the bay area and I've lived in San Francisco for the last 12 years or so of it so this city is my life and pride. I can only say that on certain days - seeing certain things - I still blink and gasp a little. Today was one such day. Where the hell is Pier 14? Well it's near the giant spider. Gross. But, skirt around it and you'll hit an ugly concrete gate to the pier and then you'll have your view. The bay bridge looms large straight ahead, arguably, every landmark in the city is in full view from its magnificent deck: Telegraph hill, the Transamerica building, the Ferry Building, Hyatt Regency, etc. There's some chairs to sit on that rotates. Remarkably birdshit free. The other nice pier in the city is at the end of Pacific Avenue between piers 5 and 7. Check that out too. Decidedly more crowded, but wider and wooden instead of concrete. We just left Pier 14 and it was so lovely. Even though the weather is kind of gloomy today, it was really nice seeing the Bay Bridge and Cupid's Arrow. There were also rose petals all around the arrow which was super cute. There's parking all around so I'm sure you'll snag a spot. read more

If you're looking for something romantic, walk down pier 14. The pier goes relatively deep into the bay and it feels like you're standing right next to the bay bridge.
