It was around 4:30pm and when we arrived, it was empty which was perfect for us. Space is big and spacious and their tables, plating, and decor really stood out to me. Seemed fancier than other Chinese restaurants! Ordered a variety of dishes and they were all really large portions and well-prepared. None were overly salty or sweet, just right. My favorite was their chicken, eggplant and salted fish claypot dish. It's one of my favorite dishes in general and they made it very well. Definitely will come here more often and will rec my family to try this place out for our next family event.

The meal includes geoduck sashimi, jellyfish & mixed appetizer, soup, steamed fish, crab & lobster with sticky rice, abalone, steamed shrimp, noodles, and veggies. Some dishes were bigger than others. Both times I came they didn't have abalone so we substitute the dish for garlic scallop (which I prefer). The menu also says it comes with house special dessert but we never gotten any. For any seafood, it's market price plus they add a 30% processing fee, which is strange to me. For a Chinese restaurant which usually does not charge tax if you pay with cash, they charge tax here whether you pay by card or cash. The restaurant is pretty big and spacious. They have pretty large tables, suitable for parties and celebrations. There's a private space upstairs with 3 large tables for parties. The restaurant is pretty slow in the afternoon.

The place is small inside so we decided to sit outside because it was a beautiful day. We had to tell them it wasn't a good look to have large garbage cans and a motor bike where we have to eat. They removed the garbage cans. We had the grilled octopus and it was perfectly seasoned and tender. The grilled Bronzini was a nice size and it was really good but I had to ask if they would grill the other side. The fried snapper needed more seasoning for my taste but overall the food was good.

Oh yes you can find squid, baby squid and a whole assortment of octopus in cut up stages. But where is whole uncut fresh or frozen without mail order. And there is nothing like home cooked and grilled octopus with fennel salad. Well I found the holy grail right in my backyard. When they say seek and ye shall find...weepa!!....I mean when one fishmonger in Bay Ridge which will not be named showed me his little bag of frozen octopus...my mind said "Yea sure your right." When I say my search was far and wide. It stretched from google to the streets of Brooklyn and beyond. Chinatown in Brooklyn is a goldmine of so many yummy veggies and fish to choose from it blows the mind. CW has satisfied my craving for grilled octopus. They also cut and clean whole fish with a wide assortment to choose from. Buyer beware is motto when purchasing any seafood or meat product. You better know the tell tale signs of fresh and old. My experience comes from working for a fish monger as a teenager. I would highly recommend CW on variety and price point. The cost was $22.00 for 1 whole frozen octopus that weighed close to 6 lb at $3.69 a pound. I love 8th avenue and the stores here, it has opened my eyes and taste buds up to a world of flavor that is second to none. Where can you find so many fish markets thriving in less than 2 block radius its insane. But the customer wins in this competition for business.

I have been around seafood my entire life and as a food professional it is gratifying to find a family run shop that cares about freshness. Really fresh seafood should smell clean, mild, and reminiscent of the open ocean, completely lacking the pungent, heavy smell that people typically associate with "fishiness". Avenue U Fish Market is clean and creamy smelling, just like right out of the water fresh. I bought soft-shell crabs last weekend that were the best I have ever had in my 60 years. They were lively, plump and most importantly delicious. Angelo personally picked 4 of them for me and my wife. I wanted to let Brooklyn and Rockaway know that it is worth the trip to Avenue U Fish Market. Keep up the great work and shop local. Support a small family run business. Get the Soft Shells while they are available. Thank you Angelo, Adam Smith

I know for a fact that their salmon is high-quality and delicious. One of the things I keep coming back for are the crab cakes. They get them from a local small business on Long Island I believe. They come frozen and you just have to heat them up in the oven for about 20 to 25 minutes or pan fry them for 3 to 5 minutes on each side. Hard to find really good crabcakes and these are definitely worth it at $4.25 a piece.
