Have rented from Jay at Pier 68 a few times. I think that he's always fair and genuinely a great guy. His boats aren't necessarily clean and perfect but they are reliable and the prices are good, especially the weekly rate. We've taken his deck boats, to hens and chickens, alligator, Tennessee and sombrero. Never had an engine problem, the GPS has always worked fine especially once you learn how to remove the fuse under the steering column. Make sure you take a picture of the prop before you leave and don't go into super shallow water. Return it with a full tank and avoid talking to his wife and you'll be good. I know for me Pier 68 is the only place I'd rent from and he's always kept my reservation no matter how busy he gets, I usually reserve a few months in advance. read more

We rented a boat this week and had no issues! Having a boat in the Florida Keys is a must! We found a sandbar near grassy key which allowed to really enjoy the water! The only complaint we had was returning the boat, we had put gas earlier in the day and noticed that they were overcharging us a lot for the gas at pier68. From start to finish Jay and Pier 68 Boat Rentals exceeded our expectations. The winds were blowing and Jay was open on when and where to boat, even if he lost the rental. We rented a 21' center console and Jay gave us the info for online FL fishing licenses prior to departure. All items the boat was equipped with, and safety, was then covered. Boat handled beautifully, even with the wind. After about 3 hours of fishing we wanted to see if we could bring a family member on boat for a short ride who was in a wheelchair. This is the best boat rental in south florida. The service was great and we were also able to rent fishing poles, snorkel gear and buy bait here. There were 4 of us, we brought floats and a cooler and there was pleanty of room. We were able to go to the ocean for sometime to Snorkle but the seas can get rough later in the day. This was my 2nd time renting a boat here and there was no problem. We had the boat all day fron 8-5 and saw some awesome sea life including sea turtles, so keep your eyes peeled!!! read more

We rented a boat from Pier 68 this weekend while we were staying at Hawk's Cay and couldn't be more pleased! When we called, Hillary was super helpful and their prices were more reasonable than what we were quoted at the resort. Once we got there, Jay gave us our choice of boats and even included a cooler and snorkel gear for us. Returning the boat was quick and easy with only gas to pay for based on what we had used while we were out enjoying our day on the water. All total, we figure we got about 2 extra hours of rental time plus the gas for what we would have paid just for renting a boat for 4 hours at Hawk's Cay. As for the boat's condition, it was used but maintained well enough for a daily rental in our opinion. Just be sure to bring your own portable music! We'll definitely rent from them again next time and recommend you give them a try if you're looking to go boating too. read more

Pier 68 is the best place in the Florida Keys for a boat rental. We always are greeted when we arrive by the owner Jay and his wife and they always are very nice to us and the boats are always clean and ready to go. Jay the owner has been helping me and my husband for about 6 years now. We always contact him a few weeks and advance and he will hold a boat for us. He will also deliver it too your dock if you prefer that. The prices are extremely reasonable. We rented a boat and a kayak for 2 weeks during christmas time & he will always call us and give us weather updates if a storm is coming and will come help you secure the boat to your dock incase the weather is bad. Awesome place! I have rented boats multiple times from Pier 68. I have rented center consoles for fishing. I have rented deck boats for just cruising around the bay with family. I have enjoyed every trip I have taken out of here. The owners are a friendly young couple that are just a pleasure to deal with. In a prime location, Jay provides the best bargain possible and helpful, low stress service. Unlike a previous yelper, we've always gotten the benefit of the doubt on fuel refills and time arriving back at the dock. The boats are rental boats at a low rental price, not brand new but we have had zero problems in 5 or 6 trips. If you want to take a yacht out, play millionaire for the day and have someone clean the bottoms of your sperrys when you make it back to the dock, head to the Treasure Coast. But if you want affordable access to the beautiful mid keys, this is the spot. Families ask for one of the deckboats for the most comfort, fishermen have plenty of options. We always have a great day and a cooler full of fish when we rent at Pier 68. read more

We are in Miami on vacation. Came down to the Keys on our way to Key West. Fishing off the many piers and sweet fishing holes with the Gulf Coast on one side and the Atlantic on the other. Fishing is good though I'm not an avid fisherman. I see a sign that says boat rentals as we stopped for ice and drinks. The prices for rentals are so reasonable compared to rentals where I'm from. Got on our yacht around 10 AM until 6PM. No tour guide just , my Son, me and six of my close friends and family, Plenty of time to get out to several islands in the Atlantic, snorkeling, fishing and boating. These guys are awesome. The rates are advertised very low so I inquired about renting a boat for the family. They were recommended by the Lime Tree Bay Resort (next door). The place is run down, equipment is well used, the dock is covered with bird droppings and the boats were filthy. We stopped at Pip's which was not much better, then rented at Captain Hooks. My wife and I rented a boat from Jay for 1 full week. He was very thorough in explaining the price and how to handle the boat. The boat was very clean and in perfect condition. This was our first time renting at Pier 68 and we will return. We rented a boat 2 years ago at another keys location with less than satisfactory results. I like Jay because he is very personable and I felt it was easy to trust him. Just remember to be careful with rental boats and treat them with care. Some people tear them up. First off, we will definitely rent from this place again. We just got back from our vacation to the keys and can't say enough about this boat rental place. The boat really made the vacation for us. We rented a 21 foot cape horn (Klockwork) boat from them with 225 hp engine for a week. We actually stayed in Islamorada key, but decided to rent from Pier 68 after we LITERALLY called every single boat rental place in Key Largo, Islamorada and Marathon and were just getting an uneasy feeling about the rental companies in those keys (or their prices were too high for our budget). One thing we loved about Pier 68 was that the guy (Jay) we spoke to was even willing to talk to us for more than 2 minutes. Seeing as we had never been to the keys before we were a little uneasy about having to take the 14 mile boat drive back to our rental place, but Jay was very helpful and answered all of our questions (even after several phone calls and emails). Right there we could tell a difference from the other rental companies because most wouldn't be willing to talk to you about their boats or the area for more than a minute. Pier 68's rates were very reasonable and the quality of the boat was great (in fact all of their boats looked to be clean and to be good working condition from what we could see from the dock). The boat we rented was in great working condition itself and posed us no problem on our week long trip. We took it out several times to do a little deep ocean reef fishing and hanging out at the sandbar every day. It always worked like a charm and we had several people at the rental place we were staying at comment on what a nice boat we had. It had a live well and working GPS with charts that you must have to boat in the keys because of the tricky water. Even though they were super busy when we went to pick up the boat, Jay still spent several minutes with my husband to give a good instruction on how to use the boat/GPS so we wouldn't have any problems operating it. We read a few negative reviews about the gas consumption at this place being a scam, but that was by no means our experience. In fact, Jay even made certain to show us that the gas tank was full by pouring a little in before we left with the boat to show us it was fully topped off (it flowed over slightly to show that it was maxed out). Then he was very clear that since we left with a full tank that we needed to bring it back with a full tank. The other option was that they would fill it up for us when we returned for fair market value on that day...all seemed to be extremely fair to us and it ended up working out perfectly. It has only been as few days since we have been back, but so far I miss the boat and the great family experiences we had to on it. I am looking forward to our next vacation. read more

I have to be fair and make sure this is understood: we did not rent a boat and this review is for only paddle boarding. I stopped here on my way home from Key West...it was a sort of middle of the trip stop. The first negative: the price was definitely the highest we have ever paid for paddle board rentals in the keys. The second negative: no facilities to use the restroom or even change. We had to walk across the busy highway and buy something in the dirty convenient store to be able to use their bathroom. After we paddle boarded we had to use the water hose to wash the salt water off and change out of our suits behind some cars. No showers to rinse off in. Third negative: the paddle for the boards were one size fits all. My husband is 6'6" and had to sit on the board rather than stand because it wasn't feasible for him to use the paddle and stand because of his size. The one positive: if you are a beginner in paddle boarding the boards were nice and wide and the water is generally flat in that area! The woman who was taking the reservation was fine, however there was two men we dealt with and one of them was rude (believe it was owner how he was taking to the staff). In the end we met a second man, who took our boards and he was sweet. I would say this place is mediocre at best. Better off going to a resort. read more

Jay was very friendly, helpful, and efficient in showing us the important bits on the boat and getting us on our way. The boat was in fine shape for a rental - some cosmetic dings but everything worked just fine. It was a nice bonus to have two bimini tops. The motor and included GPS/Sonar worked great, never a problem with either. Since we were lobstering I'd have really enjoyed a working bait well, but that was the only downer with the whole experience. Fuel charge at the end was quite reasonable. The markup vs what I would have paid to track down my own rec fuel was only maybe $7 total for my two days. I will definitely rent from them again next year. read more

They're rentals are cheap, but they lie about the gas usage. They claimed we went 40 something miles and the GPS said something totally different. When we tried to ask how they calculated the milage he tells his wife "go watch your car, they may do something to it". Horrible company!!! The couple seemed high on something!
