As we walked towards Pier 39, we passed by Pier 7. Very picturesque place to take photos because you have the city landscape on one side and the ocean view on the other side. Of course we stopped and took photos. Wooden planks on the pier is slightly uneven probably due to the recent heat wave causing the wood to expand, so it felt a little weird to walk on. Aside from that, I highly recommend taking visitors here to take photos and enjoy the view. read more

Beautiful public access fishing and recreational pier Pier 7 is a wooden plank pier constructed on the site of the original Pier 7 which was demolished after it was damaged in the October 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. The original pier, built in 1901, was the oldest structure on San Francisco waterfront and was used as a terminal for passenger ships and boats. It was later used for storage, and after a 1973 fire was converted to a parking lot. The new Pier 7 is arguably the most beautiful pier in the city. It was designed to serve both fisherman and tourists and the architects nailed it! The design brings back images of a different Victorian Age. Standing on the pier and looking towards the city one can see the Transamerica Pyramid and the rest of San Francisco skyline. Turn you head to the right a bit and there is the Coit Tower! I have passed by this spot numerous times, how have I not stopped to enjoy the lovely view from this perspective until now? It was such a lovely day in San Francisco and the beautifully aligned lights that adorn the pier from end to end caught my eye. We sat for a sweet second, enjoying the quiet solace, before continuing on to lively Pier 39. I enjoyed my dulce de leche macarons from Miette Patisserie piece by piece as I watched birds flying overhead, families walking the pier, and the water ebb and flow below. It's the simple things in life. I imagine the view being just as lovely in the evening as the city lights turn on and Bay Bridge illuminate. Stop by here if you want to getaway from the hustle and bustle of the Ferry Building and Fisherman's Wharf. Seats are plentiful and views are free. read more

I remember the scene where Michael Douglas argued with his partner Gus in "Basic Instinct". It happened here just before Gus got...well. Oh and there was a scene in that classic TV-movie, "Visions of Murder" between Barbara Eden and James Brolin on this pier where Jeannie, I mean, Barbara has a vision of... Oh dear, I see a pattern here although I don't recall having any near-death experiences strolling on the weather-worn planks of this picturesque boardwalk. Day or night, it provides Instagram moments (photo: http://bit.ly/2Hizk8D). The pier juts out 840 feet toward Treasure Island from the Embarcadero just as you pass by Coqueta (review: http://bit.ly/2CoDcBn). The water at the end of the pier is pretty deep at 35 feet which makes it ideal for fishing and less than ideal for the rest of us who have to smell the fish and other lingering odors. There are plenty of benches on this part of the pier (photo: http://bit.ly/2EInDth), but the more attractive sights can be found toward the south especially in the evening when the Bay Lights come on. Luckily there are benches with plenty of available seating along each side to allow you to take in the beauty of this part of the city. Why would I give a pier five stars? Because it's one of the happiest memories I have from this trip. Recently, I was in the Bay Area for business. My friends and I went to Pier 39 for lunch and decided to take a walk. We ended up at Pier 7. Even though it was a bit warm that day and we were tired from travel, I felt re-energized the minute I stepped on Pier 7. It was a great walk full of the bumps you would expect to find on a wooden pier. It was great for people watching as I strolled past folks on benches or taking in the view. As people jogged by me, I took in the cool breeze and continued to the edge. When I got to the end, I stayed awhile. I took pictures of the bridges, the boats, and the locks on the fence. I sat on the bench and watched birds fly by. I wondered why they didn't make a walking bridge across the water. Even the walk back felt refreshing on a Sunday afternoon. Those are some of the best memories from this trip and it was totally free! read more

I've only visited during the day on bright sunny days with quite a breeze flowing, causing my hair to whip. Taking a photo is a challenge. I led my fam down the Embarcadero, from Cupid's Span to the infamous Pier 7 where all the Filipino celebs have filmed for their US based scenes in SF. We could've stayed longer if we didn't have a reservation downtown. Easily spot Koit tower, Transamerica building, the Bay bridge, and Hornblower SF Belle ship in the background. This pier is gorgeous! After running out of things to do at the infamous Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, we decided to continue walking down The Embarcadero and found ourselves at Pier 7. It happened to be right as the sun was going down so it was very romantic, but also very windy and cold. It seemed like not a lot of people were making their way down to the end of the pier, but I think it was totally worth it! The view out along the water is beautiful and if you turn around to look at the city it is equally beautiful. The boardwalk is a little uneven and may not be the best for older people because even I tripped a couple of times. However, this is a great spot to breathe in some fresh air and take a couple of beautiful photos! read more

Pier 7 is a public pier located along the Embarcadero in San Francisco. This is a great pier for a number of reasons. Reason #1: It has breathtaking views of San Francisco Bay, the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, Yerba Buena Island, and Treasure Island as well as the downtown San Francisco (Financial District and Telegraph Hill) cityscape. Reason #2: It's not filled with tourists like Fisherman's Wharf and the Ferry Building. Reason #3: It's relatively quiet, safe, and clean. It doesn't smell of raw fish and it's not overrun with seagulls. There are several trashcans. Reason #4: There is plenty of seating thanks to many water-facing benches. Sit back, relax, and take in the magnificent views. Bring a snack, drink, book, or just yourself. This is a great place to hang out and unwind. Reason #5: It's perfect for visiting day or night. Along its entire length, the pier is lined with numerous lamp posts. These make for terrific nighttime photos (not to mention the Bay Lights on the Bay Bridge). Reason #6: It's free! Pier 7 measures in at almost 850 feet in length, which I've read makes it the second-longest pier in San Francisco. It's excellent for a casual, picturesque walk. Compared to other piers in the city, it's narrow, but still plenty wide for group strolls. Like other piers, you'll see a fair amount of fishermen here. Pier 7 is less than a 10-minute walk from the Ferry Building. It's a bit of a hike from Fisherman's Wharf (about 1.5 miles, 30 minutes walking). What an amazing pier to come alone or with friends. It never seems too packed, has gorgeous views of the city and Treasure Island both during the day and at night, crabbing and fishing allowed, access allowed 24/7, public restroom at the beginning of pier, drones are surprisingly allowed to be flown at the end of the pier, and benches all throughout. We came here for crabbing twice at 11pm and at 7am with our cheap crabbing hoop and raw chicken. We pulled up TONS of crab (dungeness and rock crab) every time both at night and in the morning, but most of them were too small to take home. We also saw fishermen reeling in lots of small fish. I love coming here, we always bring a pack of good beer, a small portable speaker and our crabbing gear. Tips: -if crabbing, bring measuring tape or you'll be fined -street parking is enforced almost 24/7 check the meters or use Pay by Phone app -bring your drone it's allowed! But of course watch out for windy weather, you'll lose that baby in the water -watch out for seals, they'll eat your crabbing bait. We fed a cute fat seal some chicken and it followed us around the pier and was a complete crabbing cock blocker -come at night the view and lighting is unreal -if you're hungry, three great/pricey restaurants at the end of the pier: Coqueta, Waterfront, and La Mar (la mar is my favorite of the three their ceviche is so good) read more

One of the most under-rated spots on the Embarcadero Waterfront. Everyone knows about Pier 14 (it's been the background picture on my Facebook page since the day I moved here - Sunrise of November 4th, 2011). Did you know that the odd-numbered piers are north and the even-numbered piers are south? We love our even/odd-numbering here in SF. Although mainly for Giants purposes. Pier 7 is a cool spot. The views are quite nice. You are near some of the Bay-faring boats (like the Hornblower) and right next to the Embarcadero Public Promenade. You are also right along the Embarcadero Historical Walk. It's a pretty low-key location - I doubt a lot of locals even really know it exists. I believe that this is the closest point you can walk to on mainland SF to get close to Yerba Buena and Treasure Islands. From a practical standpoint, you'll get a good sunrise here, especially while the sun is farther south during the Winter. Lighting is tough for photos until it gets behind you, but is very nice when the eastern clouds are reflecting red light at dusk. On a clear day, you can get a decent scope of parts of the East Bay. Hey, the Embarcadero is good for running or a long walk to work (if you are lucky). Don't hesitate to go to the end. Give it the Rocky Arms, especially if you are running. read more

This pier has some of the most amazing views in San Francisco. As you stroll down it and turn toward the city, you can see Coit Tower and the Transamerica Pyramid as a streetcar races along in the foreground. As you amble by fishermen and sleeping homeless, perhaps the occasional couple nuzzling one another for warmth and intimacy beneath one of the old lamps, you can take in the massive gray wyvern that is the Bay Bridge rising from the mist. At night the lamps shine like two strands of golden pearls and here in the metropolis, it's peaceful. read more

Pier 7 was perfect the way it was. It got popular with the street skateboarders for many years as a good spot to practice and hang out. Then the SFPD cops from Central Station (Vallejo Street) started cracking down. First they cited skaters in uniform. Then they got sneaky and started dressing like tourists with cameras and cited skaters out-of-uniform. It was like a plainclothes skateboarding detail. Ridiculous. Once, they cited me twice in the same day. Once at Pier 7, and when they asked me to move, I headed to the EMB and sat down, put my board on the ground, and was cited again. Later on when I went to traffic court (yes, we were processed exactly the same way as guys who went 100+ MPH in 35 MPH zones), the judge laughed and dismissed both citations. I'll never forget learning to skate at Pier 7. I could never master any flip tricks. The extent of my repertoire consisted of really big ollies, ollie 180s, fakie ollies, pop shove-its, the occasional accidental tailslide, 50-50 grind, and up/down 2-3 stairs. Then, sometime after 2002-2003, the city screwed us and put metal bars over all the naturally-built skateable structures. FUCK! Recently, someone or perhaps the city itself, removed the metal bars, which left huge gashes into the previously flat surface. R.I.P. Pier 7 as a famous San Francisco skate institution. The pier itself is still there, and if you ever want to avoid the crowds, you can go there on July 4th and catch 4-5 different fireworks shows from a distance (SF x 2, Emeryville, Oakland, etc.) I miss you Pier 7 (c. 1995-2001) read more

Pier 7 brings a variety of characters that includes tourist getting a great view of the Bay Bridge up close and Golden Gate Bridge on a nice sunny day. You will find your fair share of tourist, couples (sharing a romantic moment), fishermen/crabbers, joggers, cyclers, and looky-loos that pass by between Fisherman's Wharf and the ferry building (Farmers Market on weekends). Definitely stop by if you are in the neighborhood because this is one climate pocket that tends to be sunny normally. I personally come not just for sightseeing, but I go fishing and crabbing when I find spare time. They have benches, lights and a rail so it is more safe! Crabbing - There are less sea lions compared to Torpedo Wharf; therefore, the risk of losing bait is less here. Fishing - The regulars come out and most are enjoyable to talk to joking with one another and showing off their catch to friends and tourist alike. Of course, mind the rules, or risk fines by fish and game. read more

I was in SF for a 2-day work trip in June and wanted to get in a workout and see a greta view of the bridge, so I went for a run in the early morning. Just as the sun was breaking over the horizon, I turned down Pier 7 and ran out to the end. I was the only soul out there and the view was amazing. It was a great start to the day! I love Pier 7! This is kind of embarrassing to say, but I just recently discovered it. We went to Pier 7 the other night to go crabbing. Apparently A LOT of people know about this place already! There were soooo many people with their nets, cages, fishing hooks who were fishing and or crabbing. There were also couples on a date (hhehe), homeless, cops patrolling (of course), and kids who definitely should've been in bed by that time! My friend brought his portable stove to boil water to make hot chocolate and tea (lol), and we had snacks and music too. The view at night was breathtaking! It was absolutely beautiful. Even though we only caught 5 crabs in the 2-3 hours we were there; we had a good time. (My friend went crabbing last year at the same spot and caught 40 crabs in 2 hours! @_@) It was a lot of fun. I love Pier 7. I heard during the day, people go there to skateboard and to just enjoy the scenary. Night time people fish and crab. I can't believe I just found out about this now! But I'm so glad I did. I'm going back! read more

I've been drinking beer on my lunch break on The Pier every Friday for the last 2 years. The weather always magically gets better every time I'm out there and you have 360 degree views of everything. Always lots of characters here, from the Chinese fishermen catching sharks and rays, the German tourists taking corny pictures, to the King of The Pier, Antonio. I remember back in the day when I use to skate and fish here all the time. Once I ollied off the stairs but didn't land on my board and it started rolling into the streets. Let's just say one of my wheels were gone. Now they put metal onto the blocks to prevent skaters from doing their thangg. The city has lost one of its finest aerobatic sports playground. Anyway, when the timing is right and the day turns to dusk, the sky changes into colorful swirl. It becomes the most romantic spots in the city. The fishing is pretty good. Caught some perch, sharks, and crabs here. If your in town for a romantic getaway, this is a spot to go to on a nice clear afternoon. Parking is tough so I would recommend public transportation. read more
