I would say hands down, Pierre Herme offers the most inventive and delicious macarons in Paris. Laduree doesn't even compare (and theirs are frozen). I'd just like to note that this place only sells macarons and chocolates and not the pastries. I learned the hard way when I went expecting to get my hands on the ispahan croissants and left disappointed. If you want to try the amazing pastries, head to the Rue Bonaparte location in the 4th arrondissement. Also, Pierre Herme shops are known for their glass sliding door entrances, so if you don't want to look like a rookie (aka, trying to find the door) the glass door will automatically slide open as you approach. tldr; pastry shop -- macaron flavors were unique and tasty, but the textures left more to be desired I was quite bummed out by this place, but I may try their ice cream in the future. I passed by Pierre Herme as I was walking around the Opera place. The storefront was absolutely gorgeous, so I got curious to see what was inside. I discovered a beautiful array of macarons, so I decided to give that a try. The one thing that I found interesting about their macarons was that they had very unique flavors. I got the jasmine and the yogurt and orange flavors. Each macaron is 2.10 euros which puts it on par with Laduree, but I found the texture to be lacking in these macarons. Both macaron melted in my mouth without me even biting into them, completely lacking in any form and shape. While I found the flavors to be good, I personally prefer my macarons to have some texture and form to them. My friend told me that the ice cream here is the real show stopper, so I may come back to try that out. Otherwise, I personally prefer Laduree over this place, but I guess if you're into more creative flavors, then Pierre Herme is your place. I did really appreciate how high quality everything was though -- even though I only got two macarons, they were beautifully packaged in a translucent bag neatly tied with their advertisement pamphlet. I had a really bad day at work and decided to buy some macarons here. I really enjoyed Ladurée, and figured I should sample all legendary desserts of Paris. The flavors were weird (some in a good way, some in a bad way) and the macarons weren't crunchy! I'm sure there's some kind of great existential debate about the proper texture of a macaron, but I like mine to have a little crunch to them. These were super boring. We decided to buy our macarons at Pierre Hermé after hearing that Laduree was not necessarily the very best in Paris. I'm very glad that we did. These macarons were incredible. Absolutely phenomenal. The box and bag were perfect too. I wish I could remember my favorite flavor, but it was some kind of citrus flavor and I believe it was yellow. It was absolutely to die for. I was also pleased that the young woman that helped us was very nice and patient with us, even though we didn't have everything figured out ahead of time. That left a very positive impression. This service really made the experience. I was obliged to come back the next day, after all. The olive and vanilla flavor (the employee's personal favorite) was very interesting and worth trying! I was on a macaron mission the entire time I was in Paris, and I can definitely say Pierre Herme had some of the most unique flavors I saw. Not only do they have inventive flavors, but they just look so darn fancy compared to others. Almost too fancy to eat... almost... ok who am I kidding. If there's a macaron in front of me, it's a goner no matter how pretty it looks. Anyways, I stuck with mostly common flavors, such as mint, chocolate & caramel, and vanilla, so I could compare with other shops. They also had other flavors like rose petal, hazelnut praline, chocolate & passionfruit, aniseed & saffron, rose, lychee & raspberry, and jasmine. The texture of the macarons were spot-on. The delicate crunch on the outside with the creamy goodness on the inside makes these macarons heavenly! The store resembles that of a high-end clothing store. I guess designer macarons deserve a storefront as grand as high-end fashion designers. In fact, it's so "high-end," they don't even allow photos. Too bad, because the macarons are super photogenic. By far the best macarons. I think they are actually better than Laduree even though everybody thinks the world of Laduree. My favorite is the Mogador which is a passion fruit and milk chocolate. I also like the chocolate, pistachio/raspberry and the caramel with sea salt. Yes it is on the expensive side, but sometimes you have to pay the price to get the quality. This is what I always bring back as gifts and everybody has always loved them. The Pierre Hermé v. Ladurée war is very real among Parisians, and I have joined the Hermé camp. Although I usually love everything traditional, and Laduré hasp the traditional feel while Pierre Hermé has the modern feel, the service at Pierre Hermé is the deal breaker. I was greeted warmly when I entered the store and given time to pore over the different flavors, even offered chocolate samples (which were wonderful) while I was deciding.
