I have taken all three of my children to Pigtails & Crewcuts multiple times and have generally had positive experiences. Although the haircuts are expensive, I always felt the quality and child-friendly service made them worth it. Unfortunately, my experience today destroyed the trust I had in this business. I brought my four-year-old son in for a haircut with Anais. I specifically asked for a high fade with a #1 on the sides. My son loves getting haircuts, sits extremely still, and has never been difficult during an appointment. Despite that, she gave him a very low fade that was uneven and patchy all over. During the haircut, he became covered in loose hair and told her he was itchy. Instead of taking a moment to blow or brush the hair off him, she repeatedly told him she would clean him off when she was finished. I have never experienced that at a children's salon before. When she said she was done, I immediately noticed patches throughout his hair and pointed out that the fade was much lower than what I requested. I asked her to fix the patches and raise the fade. About five minutes later, she said she was finished again, but the patches were still clearly visible and the fade had not been raised. His hair is now noticeably uneven, patchy, and looks significantly worse than it did before the appointment. I would not feel comfortable sending him to school with his hair looking like this. After paying nearly $50 for a children's haircut, I now have to take him somewhere else and pay again to have it corrected--if it can even be fixed without cutting it extremely short. I am incredibly disappointed, especially because we had been loyal customers. I sincerely hope ownership reviews this situation, makes it right, and ensures this stylist receives additional training and supervision before more children leave with the same experience. read more

Took my 13 month old son year to get his first haircut and was able to book the day before with tons of availability. The staff were great at pushing through the tears and crying to get the haircut done. They were running behind so we did have to wait 20 minutes which is challenging with a little one. They have a play area with books, toys and a train set. The seats are fun for slightly older toddlers and kids but we ended up having to hold him on our lap because he was too upset to be on his own. They even had a fun light up wand to distract him during. We did the first haircut cut package where they put aside a lock of hair and took a picture of him afterwards which they print out in a little paper frame. Clearly short staffed or our stylist seemed to feel rushed, stepping away to answer the phone once, then again stepping away to check for an appointment for a walk in and to also check in another family. I wouldn't have minded expect she seemed like she'd 'lost' her train of thought when she came back to our 4 year old sons cut. The crown of his head was left unchecked but because I'm not a stylist, thought maybe it was due to being wet still from the cut. What a fun place for kids to get their hair cut. Instead of normal barber chairs, there are novelty chairs for kids like a police car and fire truck. There's an Xbox 360 at one Sharon if you happen to have a child who refused to door so except when playing video games. Even the capes have a little clear window so that you can look at your phone through the cape. Ok, so it's also kind of sad what lengths some kids require in order to get them to cooperate, but this is a review of the business, not our culture :) Most importantly, our daughter's stylist was incredible. Heart is torn on this review. 5 stars for the set up: plenty of staff, toys for the kids to play with while waiting, and cute cars for the kids to sit in for their haircuts. Plenty of candy and cartoons playing to keep them busy if they are nervous about their first time too. They also have this haircut and photo combo so you remember their first haircut. The reason for the 3 stars is for a kids haircut it's at lest $20. Check in with yelp and you get 2 dollars off but still pretty pricey. We also got home and realized the hair around his ears was trimmed crooked and patchy. Maybe it was cause he was moving around too much? All in all cute place to take a little one their first time. Note- they do not take appointments so you will wait on average 30-40 minutes- even if you get there when they open. They are always understaffed and I feel sorry for Heather the only consistent stylist who holds it down without ever looking rushed or flustered! The haircuts are just hit or miss. some stylists are great but you never know who you are going to get when you arrive since it's first come first serve and I rarely see the same person there twice. I don't know how this place stays in business. Maybe the owner needs to pay their stylists more as there seems to be a need for them but no one shows up to work consistently. read more

I have been here several times with my 4 year old son, and each time has been good, but this last haircut was amazing! The stylist, Rae, did such an amazing job! She was patient and kind. She explained the clippers to my son since it was the first time he experienced them; she let the clippers tickle him before she just jumped into it cutting his hair. Absolutely disappointed with our visit we recently had. We usually see Rae who we absolutely love, she always meets my expectations. She was not there when we went in recently. I went in and saw that I was the only one waiting put my name on the list and sat down. Another family came in 30 minutes after us and as soon as they came in they were sat down. I went up to the hair stylist and asked her why we had been skipped. She immediately apologized and sat my son down and began with his hair cut. Everything went well and she styled it once she was done and we went home. I went home and put my son in the bath and once his hair dried I was horrified. I used to bring my little girls for their haircuts here..but today it was the last time (for sure)that I did it at this place.. I'm so unhappy with my daughter's haircut! And she also! I believe that they are out of good hairstylists.. the one that cut my daughter's hair was that bad like the last time we were there but I gave her an opportunity and I came again cause I thought that she may had a bad day then... She was able to choose the car she wanted to sit in, and had a movie on to distract her. The girls that work here are amazing. They're so friendly and very patient. My son really, really hates people touching him, especially his hair. Nicole was very understanding. She told us our options and what she thought would work best. She let us move around to figure out what he liked (chair, train table, couch, etc). We ended up cutting his hair on the couch. There was a lot of crying and screaming (none of which was her fault) but she was patient and did an awesome job! I was very impressed with her. Their outlook was "whatever you need we'll do it" and I appreciate that so much. They had suckers, animal crackers and a treasure chest to pick out a prize at the end. Televisions at every station, a large train table and an Xbox for entertainment. Major kudos to them for having lint rollers as well. We plan to come back here for future hair cuts. Great service for our little one! We took our son here for his first ever haircut at 11 months. We didn't call ahead and they were able to take us right away as a walk in. It's a cute setup with 3 different "cars" for the kids to sit in while having their hair cut, which keeps them entertained (a fire truck, police car and one more). There's also a traditional salon chair if needed. For his first visit I had to hold him in the salon chair while my husband blew bubbles (provided by the salon to help distract the babies) and his stylist was very quick and efficient, given our little guy was completely squirmy and nervous. She did exactly what we asked and we were very pleased. They took his picture and put it in a card with a lock of hair to keep in our baby book. That was extra, but it was nice to have that memento. Our second visit went just as smooth, and again, we didn't call to make an appointment but they got us in right away. This time our son enjoyed having his hair cut in the fire truck, and they gave him animal crackers to distract him during the cut. Again, his stylist cut his hair like we wanted and did it quickly. Very happy with the service and we'll be back! Update: we've brought our son in for a third visit and his haircut went great. He was really fussy, but they got the job done even with him squirmy. I am shocked by the way this location (Northfield) treated us. I called this morning to schedule my son for his first haircut. The haircut was extremely rushed, yes my son was crying, but the stylist didn't even try to calm him. She barely said 2 words to be honest. When she was done I asked about saving hair because I thought that was included in the package? She looked confused and the receptionist asked if this was a first haircut? I said yes I said that on the phone. They both said oh okay let's get a picture and wanted me to put my son back in the chair. It was the most awful experience and they both acted like they could care less. They were rushed and rude. My mama heart hurts and I'm so sad that this experience was so awful for us both. I absolutely love this place! This was our first time here and my experience was nothing but great. I have been to a different kids hair salon and ended up needing to find somewhere else because my experience there was terrible and traumatizing. We were immediately greeted as we walked in and signed in. Leslie took my 2 y/o son right away. He was NOT having it.... he was crying and hated it because of experience at a previous salon and Leslie was so kind and sweet reassuring me it's okay. I felt so defeated and she made me feel like this was no big deal or bother to her. Afterwards, she did not rush us out she actually sat with my son who was playing with the train in the waiting area to try and make a connection with him. As we checked out, Leslie and I believe her name was Heather(?) came up and again reassured me that I was okay and everything was okay. So disappointed. I asked for my daughter to get an a line that was long in the front. At first it started off looking great and then Roberta completely ruined my daughter hair. It got to her cheeks!! When I clearly didn't ask for this!! I asked for it by her shoulder in the front and I got the complete opposite. Good thing my daughter is beautiful and pulls off any look and she was excited. But Roberta disappointed me and told me it wasn't her career of choice. We even told her we're cutting it to prepare for our trip to DISNEY WORLD. She messed up her hair. And I'm disappointed with it. But my daughter likes it so I guess I'm okay but next time Roberta should pay attention.
