Tried this salon after reading a couple reviews. I'm usually very timid around new stylists as I'm sure many people are, but I got a really great cut from this place and a great care regiment for my curl type. I also lost my phone in the Uber on my way there and the staff at the station were incredibly kind to me through that ordeal, letting me use their phone to go through the tedious claims process. bringing me water and coffee. I was embarrassed to hang around and depend on them for so long and they treated me with so much class. just really wonderful and decent human beings. They deserve all the success. I was so excited to get my first curly cut! I was willing to cut off my dead ends, I explained my bottom layers are wavy and top are spirals.. aka I need long layers and the underneath to gain some bounce. She showed me about 1 inch she was taking off.. I ended up with a mullet. My spirals were cut off and my hair is wonky. I did learn some curly tips and some terminology.. butI'm too embarrassed to wear my hair down, I'm waiting for it to grow. Until then, it's braids for me. EDIT: after two weeks since cut and traveling, I was able to style my hair at home. I was nervous when I left the salon with less and looser curls.. it was pretty product heavy for my fine, thin hair. 1 for quality of services and customer services I do not get my hair cut often because I have not found someone to trust with my curly hair. Boy did my cut with Frances make that concern worse. I came in with a reference picture of my own hair. Nothing special just asking for some length cut off. My curls have different patterns with the front ones being tighter. I explained this before starting and showed pictures of when it looks different than the rest of my hair. Since I left the salon with a (questionable) blowout (a whole different story), I did not see this problem at the time. As you can see from the results of the cut, I have a significant step off. This also made my hair at shoulder length which is about an inch shorter than I asked for. Once I showered and my hair was curly again, I called during business hours but as no one answered I left a voicemail that I was not happy with the result of my cut and would like to be called back. After a few days with no call back, I called again and Frances (the stylist who cut my hair) answered. When I let her know the problem, her response was that it was my fault for not styling my hair exactly as she had told me. I indicated at the start of the cut that I am the most low maintenance with my hair, using leave in at the most, but according to her I "promised" to follow a multi step, multi product process. During the cut she gave me recommendations for the best way to style my hair but I was never told that I needed to follow specific steps so that the length of my hair would be even. On the phone I let her know I was willing to send pictures and come back in to fix. She proceeded to put me on hold for a few minutes before returning saying her next client was in and I would be called back. I asked when and who I could expect a call from and she said the receptionist would give me a call back within ten minutes. It has been weeks now. I have styled my hair to the T of Frances instructions and yet my hair has not magically grown back (surprise). Would not recommend at all. read more

Choosing a new hairstylist is nerve-wracking, especially when you just moved to Denver from a different state and had the same stylist for 6 years. Thankfully, if you have curly/wavy hair, all you have to do is look up a new stylist on the DevaCurl site ... but you still need to find someone who listens to you, who understands your struggle, and can give you a haircut that not only looks good but is easy to maintain and fits your lifestyle. For me, that person is Julia McBride. To get a new client appointment, I had to book over a month in advance, but it was 100% worth it. I brought pictures of the look I was going for (new city, so time for a big change!) and she completely nailed it. We talked through a few different ideas before she got to work. The salon also carries a super-clean haircare line I'd been wanting to try, Innersense, so she gave me some personalized recommendations that I've been loving. I personally don't think you'd have a bad experience with anyone at this salon (especially since they are all curly-hair certified to some degree), but Julia is my gal! read more

I came here for the first time yesterday to Shadie and I must say I am pleasantly impressed, not just with Shadie but with the whole staff Dee general manager is lovely.. Alyssa I think I'm pronouncing it correctly. I may be wrong. She also works. The front desk is so darling but most importantly I was very happy with my haircut. My color was really nice shadie.. walked me through every bit of the way we cut it shorter, layered it and lightened it and I really like it. It was very well done. I went to the station due to convenience and living nearby. I am not good at doing my hair and was hoping to find a nearby stylist who could help me with everything from haircuts to regular blowouts. The reviews seemed great so I decided to give the station and Shadie a try. Instead, I left with the worst haircut of my life. The left side of my hair and the right side are two totally different hair cuts. The left side has more short layering and texturizing than the right. So now no matter how much I try to style it the left side flips out and the right side looks fine... I asked Shadie to take the bulk out of my hair, meaning thin it out and instead, she textured the ends. Even in the chair after she blow-dried it, my hair looked HORRIBLE. She told me it was just how she blow-dried and it would lay fine... Even with lots of product and flat-ironing it, I cannot get this haircut to look decent. Jeanna tried to fix it, but the options were to make the left side look as bad as the right side. Thank god I am still working from home. read more

Beware - new ownership as of summer 2022 and they no longer care about the customer or the quality of stylists. Most of the quality, seasoned stylists who most of us curly haired people have loved for the last 5-10 years have left the salon. They have replaced them with lesson seasoned, not as trained stylists but are still charging the same price. Sadly, this type of management is destroying the great reputation the Station had for years. Thankfully I figured out where some of the great stylists went and will be taking my business there. Editing to respond to "owners" comment. When new owners took over, my existing appointment was cancelled without any notification, via email, no phone call, and right before a very large speaking engagement I had. When I called to inquire why and to rebook, it took over 2 weeks to get someone to respond. The suggested stylist was newer and was not Deva certified but yet cost the same as my previous well experience stylist. My visit to pick up products resulted in seeing first hand the chaos in the salon with the new owners and management t. As you can see with the attitude in the response, they are not welcoming and attack customers instead of looking for ways to work with them. This is why I will not be returning and strongly suggest customers look elsewhere - this proves they do not care about the clients. Perhaps they are too busy worried about their reputation on social media (and deleting negative comments/reporting them) and making responses like this than taking care of long term clients. read more

Do not go to this salon. I saw Shadie Lujan two weeks ago after I had grown out my bangs and layers and needed a trim. She cut my bangs straight across with scissors and no layering, leaving the bangs super uneven. She also tried to frame my face way to far back into my hairline, behind my ears. I went to another girl at a different salon to get it fixed, who took the following photos before doing her best to fix it. I then reached back out to the salon several times via phone and was kept on hold for over 10 minutes, told I would get a callback and never got a call back. This happened 3 times. Then I got a response via email telling me because I went to another salon, I would not be eligible for a refund. I sent the photos to the manager, and I then got another response from Karyn the manager via email telling me in a nasty tone that she didn't see what was "supposedly" wrong with the original cut and that I "got too upset/frustrated" with the receptionist, even though our entire conversation I intentionally kept a calm tone - not easy, considering the manager refused to speak to me on the phone at all. In summary, do not go to The Station unless you want to be used as a guinea pig by stylists that don't know how to cut hair, then avoided, then chastised for attempting to fix their mistakes. read more

I'm a very anxious client since I'm not the best at articulating myself, however, I did bring inspo. photos to my appointment. My stylist was nice, but cut my hair way shorter than we talked about. In the appointment I mentioned it was a shock and that I may just need to get used to it. The day after I reached out to the salon for potentially a teaching moment for the stylist due to how upset I was with the shortness (Above my ears when we discussed an inch above my shoulder). I wasn't requesting a refund just articulated my upset with feeling ugly from the haircut. The salons response? They asked if I had washed my hair yet. Mary is a great stylist. She looked at my hair, asked me the right questions and then worked her magic. Her shampoo/conditioning head massage was so good, I had a hard time holding a conversation, and I'm rarely at a loss for words. For curly hair they use the Deva process, which is a dry cut. They are willing to do it differently, but that seems to be the standard. I've been to Deva salons, and I've learned how to make their process work for me. I'm a little high maintenance with my curls. I like big hair, I like it diffused a certain way, I like my curls to be shaken...Mary worked with me and it was great. I've noticed one piece that seems to be a bit out of place, and Mary had told me to come on in if there was anything I need fixed. UPDATE: After washing my hair, one side was a good five+ inches longer than the other. I didn't have time to go back in, but I was pretty shocked to see such an oversight. I cut it myself, went back a couple months later and they gave me another woman who was not good, and should never touch curly hair. I've resisted going back since. When you have curly hair, the last thing you want to do is change your stylist or find a new salon. Overall, the Station was good: Friendly staff, convenient location, easy parking, smart prices and decent stylists. And there was a super cute puppy there. I have been on my curly girl journey now since June, and I was beyond ready but also a little hesitant to make the jump to a Deva Cut. I researched for a long time before finally deciding to start trying to find a salon that specialized in curly cuts. I live in Alabama but work in Denver luckily, because I couldn't find anywhere that met the criteria within a couple of hours of home. I decided to make an appointment during my next trip and take the Deva Curl leap. Mellisa helped me feel so comfortable and explained what I should and should not being doing through my whole cut. She took her time and made sure each curl blended in, and even managed to make my bangs fall seamlessly into the rest of my hair. After the cut she walked me through the product she used and how she worked the conditioner and gel into my hair. She showed me how to apply everything without separating the curls and creating unwanted frizz. She then spent time showing me how to use clips to give my hair more shape at the roots and give my curls room to be. After a few minutes under the dryer, my hair was revealed and needless to say, I was not disappointed. My hair looks like the curly hair of my dreams. 4.75 stars. I wrote a LOT, tried to be well-rounded and I hope it may be helpful (especially the end, info on my texture change as a transplant that some people may overlook, as I did, at first)... Curly girls take cuts SERIOUSLY, and the Station gets it. SPACE: really clean, everyone is very friendly and down-to-earth. Very professional but relaxed vibe. It's nice to be offered a drink :) tea, water, wine... I'd get wine but sitting on a nice chair under the drier is so comfortable and I'd never want to leave! STYLIST: I love my stylist, Jeanna! I've also seen other several stylists when needed, too, and they are also nice, cool, talented ladies with great communication skills (so important)! But, I always request Jeanna when making an appointment. -My single gripe: -.25 star, small but worth mentioning: my latest bang trim was kind of a bummer. The front was too short blunt (and they were uneven, because we agreed not to trim more...) I remember talking a lot and I may have distracted the person that cut them. I waited several weeks til they were long enough to even out myself (I hate cutting my own bangs, too many bad experiences in my 20s...) Mistakes happen, I have hair pins and product for it, plus bang trims are free (though TIP please, ladies!) This wouldn't hinder me from returning. The TEXTURE realization I should have made earlier that may be helpful to any fellow unobservant people: the fun big-punk-purple rain-esque 3a-b texture/haircut I had back east was no longer "easy" with my newly-acquired 1c/2a CO texture (whuuut!?) So, I used to go into the station with freshly-washed hair (because that's how I liked to style it, it was the easiest in NY...) I'd just ask for the same/similar cut in CO. It took me a minute to realize that cut just wasn't the best choice for me anymore, it was annoyingly floppy and weirdly flat on my second day and on. I've just always had huge curly frizzy heavy thick Italian hair. Jeanna helped me figure it out, HUGE change. I now go in for a cut with my hair a day or two after a wash (I wash weekly), and it's cut beautifully for my texture... volume and waves and sometimes a little curl on the end, when it's "humid" here, she knows what's up. I miss the big crazy fun curls sometimes, but that was what was easy then, and this is my "easy" haircut now, and I can pump it up if I want to. Anyway, I highly recommend this place. I used to be a frequent customer at another salon on S Federal (wayyy across town from DIA) to receive work I thought was acceptable! Wrong. Thanks to The Station Hair Studio, my hair got beautifully fixed in no time and I got it for an affordable price. Everyone here cared about me since walking in. Karen was there for me in and out and had set up my appointment over the phone. I was even squeezed in the next day!! Upon arriving, the salon had mostly street parking so get ready to parallel park because it's important. I would suggest coming in even 2 hours early if you live far like me. The building is ravishing and lovely, the inside looks so beautiful and not cliche like most salons. It's a pretty and majestic salon like the movies! There's lots of gorgeous lights, flowers, and I was treated like a princess. Karen even offers a glass of white or red wine. I chose white. Cherre took care of me and she was a doll. For the first time, she actually explained to me why dry hair happens, instead of pointing why my hair is dry. There is a difference. It actually boosts up your confidence, knowing someone can treat you like a friend. The whole process was easy and my results are beautiful. I only spent two hours at the salon and that was an achievement for me since I'm stuck at salons for 8 hours getting a color correction. Finally at the end, I had a beautiful chocolate colored black hair color that glows brown and mildly red in the sun. It's definitely made me look like a different person. Now, let's compare prices: at the previous salon I paid $220 for a color correction ONLY with no after fix, and $220 for a blond ombré and with their mistakes, a $95 fix! How lame! I guess shame on me for getting a Deva cut when I have wavy hair. This was my first experience with The Station and I have to say it is the worst haircut I've ever had in my life. And the most expensive. What a complete waste of money! My stylist cut my day two hair right when I came in. It was not styled at all when she cut it. No wonder it's crooked! I expected her to cut it after the curls were complete and dried. She showed me some tricks, which was nice, but I started to have doubts when she left the conditioner in (I don't do this usually because my hair is too fine and it weighs down my waves). Then she put TONS of product in my hair. Like the same amount you would put into 4C hair. My fine, wavy tresses can't handle all of that! I was too shocked to really express how terrible I thought it looked before leaving but the stylist knew I was displeased. At that point, she probably would have had to start over to fix it and it was closing time so she just sort of shuffled me out the door saying the Deva cut probably wasn't for me. My scalp was so itchy from all the crap in my hair that I literally jumped right into the shower to wash all of it out when I got home. Now that it's dried, I can really see how messed up the cut is. I will be calling and asking for a straight cut (free of charge) to fix all the crookedness and random long pieces and then I won't return again. Giving it two stars because the stylist was friendly and it's probably a great place for thick-haired curly girls? I was expecting experts who treat every client differently based on their texture, porosity, etc. Like hair scientists. Sigh, the search for the perfect haircut continues. I got a Deva haircut from Jeanna and it was my best cut experience to date. I have gotten Ouidad and Deva cuts before and never really like the end result. The cutting and careful shaping are great but never liked the end result in terms of finished styling. It always looked like plastic, stringy curls. Curls have memory so it takes over a month to recover. However, Jeanna really listens to the client's wants and has the expertise to deliver results. About two years ago, I dyed by curly hair for the first time. I got it done at a non-curly salon, and it didn't really accentuate my curls or work with my curl pattern, but honestly I didn't really know any better. When I moved out to Colorado about a year ago I decided to splurge on getting it re-dyed, and I found The Station because of all the great curly hair reviews. Well, they are right. I absolutely loved my color and it made my curls look very accentuated and gorgeous. Marie was great about giving my hair extra hydration and care after the color, and I feel like they really understand why my hair texture needs. I went back recently to get my hair re-colored again, since most of the color had started to grow out. Honestly I usually cut my hair at home because I'm so traumatized by stylists who simply don't understand curly hair, but this time I even decided to get it cut with Marie because she did such a great job with the color last year...and it turned out great!! Three stars is for the general feel and staff at the salon. They also send you a card after which is a nice touch. Lost two stars for quality of cut. I went in for a deva curl cut which costs more, but I thought would be worth it to help my wavy hair fall correctly. I went because I have a coworker that goes and her hair looks awesome, she uses a different stylist. Overall not impressed by my cut, it was hard to tell at the time because of the way they style. I asked for face framing at it wasn't done. The layering throughout that gives the full feel was lacking and the cut was pretty rectangular. Any curly girl knows what I mean when I say this cut left my hair with a shelf. The reason I went here was to avoid that. When I chose to move to Denver, I was worried about finding someone who could cut and color my hair as well as the person I've been using for the past 10 years. Based on the reviews and the advice of someone I met IRL, I made a consultation appointment with Megan. Her questions and comments made me feel confident she would do a good job with my hair. She has not disappointed - I get great compliments on my color and style. I've been using some of the Deva techniques for a while with other products with success. Megan added a step: rinsing with a little water after applying the leave-in conditioner and again after applying the styling gel.
