Nora was such a great instructor -- super patient, clear with her cues, and really attentive to form. She made everything feel approachable even when my legs were shaking halfway through She explained the movements well and offered helpful corrections without making it intimidating. I'll start by saying I've taken a few classes here that were enjoyable. Depending on the instructor, you might not be doing Pilates. There's one in particular who literally kept shouting "faster faster" as we were doing side splits, which irritated my soul because Pilates is about being slow and controlled, and we were just flailing around on the reformer instead of resisting the springs back in. Actually controlling the carriage instead of using momentum would've been harder, but she looked at you like you were crazy if you tried to do anything but HIIT on a reformer. I've seen a lot of people comment on how the quality of instructors here seems to vary greatly, and I discovered why. Some of them are actually fully certified Pilates instructors, while others are graduates of Pilate-ology's own certification program--which is a bit misleading. The average comprehensive Pilates certification is roughly 500 hours. Pilate-ology's only adds up to 72 hours (they don't list how many hours it is, only dates, probably so potential students don't realize it's not comprehensive). They claim that "there's no hidden fees" to make you think you're getting a good deal, but for $4,000, that's a huge scam and ripoff. A much longer, fully comprehensive Pilates training is slightly more expensive and necessitates 7x the number of actual training hours. Their certification is a way to make money and get new instructors fast. Despite Pilate-ology calling its training "Pilates Instructor Certification," it is not a true certification--so if you are considering it, I would keep in mind that you may not be able to work at other studios, depending on their expectations. As a client, I don't feel comfortable returning to a studio that is comfortable 1) misleading students into getting a certification that is merely a cash grab and 2) hiring said students to work with clients, many of whom (like myself) have noticed the difference in quality between instructors, as this can be a genuine safety risk as they don't understand corrections and anatomy as well as a fully certified instructor. They don't really lie anywhere, but it's all very misleading. read more

Updated review after more time at this studio: In this bright sunlit Pilates studio you will find exactly what your body and mind needs. If you're the type of person that likes a certain amount of airflow on you while you work out, from just a slight wisp to getting a fan blasting right in your face, you can find the spot that fits you in this studio, for sure. I find the space itself to be very welcoming and comfortable. In all honesty, the teachers at Pilate-ology could be instructing in a basement in Lancaster loaded with a furnace oven and not a fan in sight, I would still be there for my feet-in-straps. They are that wonderful. Just like the airflow there is a teacher in this studio that is right for YOU. Find Richard Simmons-esk energy to pump you up with Amy, perfect your form and hold yourself to a higher standard with Dani, and if you're looking to find peace and serenity in your life than Nora is your girl. Nora is a Guru. I mean that in the ancient, Sanskrit usage of the word. She is a guide to living a fuller more enjoyable life. The breath work she implements throughout her classes is one in the same as breath work in meditation. Nora will teach you to feel good about the body you live in today, not tomorrow when the Pilates pays off. She is also hilarious. While you're twisted in quite unique ways fully engaging your abdomen to its fullest potential she will tell little stories that are funny and silly which is quite the conflict due to the abdomen situation. If you ever thought pilates was too hard for you then try again with Nora. Indeed, after a Pilates session with Nora you will leave feeling absolutely elated. I do not have experience here, but someone very close to me did. The ownership does not treat customers who may have physical challanges, issues or those who perhaps don't fit a "marketable" ability with the dignity they deserve. Sure, you can relegate them to your expensive private lessons but how about some tolerance? No, its not your legal obligation to be accommodating to every customer, but aren't you in the health and wellness business? At the very least, is an attempt to accommodate a customer as much as you can too much to ask? read more

Studio is clean, filled with light, and is intimate with only eight reformers. However, if you have a physical disability for which you need modifications that other people in the class may see, it is not the place for you. After taking many classes with different instructors here, I happened to take one this week with one of the co-owners. I needed a number of modifications that day, and actually wanted to leave early because I wasn't feeling great. She asked me to stay until the end, and I thought she was going to give me some helpful tips for next time. Instead, she asked me not to come back because I would be distracting to future classes. My fellow class attendees over the 10-15 classes I've taken here seemed like lovely people, and I believe people in a workout class are there to improve themselves and not criticize or frankly even pay attention to anyone else, so I believe the co-owners' words reflect her own discriminatory values. If you care about inclusivity and kindness, I'd reconsider this place. read more

I really like this studio. The classes are just the right amount of challenging and approachable. There is diversity in students in age and body types and generally their teachers are great. I particularly like Claudia, Nora and Amy. I do want to mention that I really wish they would be consistent with opening their classes to ClassPass. There are often avail spots in the classes I do take and it's frustrating when I can't book a class even tho it's showing avail on ClassPass. Pls consider making these more available! read more

The classes and instruction are very good but having idiotic policies that screw over your clients supersedes all that. I bought a 20 session package at roughly $540. Between Covid and back issues I was going rarely. When I went to book more sessions I found that 14 of my sessions had "expired". I asked the owner repeatedly why. Dani replied: "That's our policy". Why have a policy that screws your clients?! It would have cost her NOTHING to reinstate the sessions. She refused and it cost me $378. I even asked if you could meet me in the middle and give me back 7 sessions. She refused. And then she has the gall to say: "You are always welcome back as you bring good energy to class" No I bring cash that you get to keep and not provide the service. Unbelievable f***ing unbelievable. read more

I love this Pilates studio and all of their trainers with a special soft spot for Dani who always encourages me through her tough workouts with humor and fun music. Also, she really takes her stretching seriously which I appreciate! Thankfully this studio survived the COVID shut down and seems to really be thriving now more than ever. I am so excited this studio is back open for in person classes after a long COVID induced hiatus. Their online classes were a great stop-gap, but being back in the studio and on the reformers is the place to be! They've done a great job organizing the space to feel safe; it is spotless in there, and the studio and equipment is thoroughly cleaned between each class. The reformers are set far enough apart to make it very feel safe working out, and they have a mask policy for now which adds to the feelings of security. They've really thought this out carefully and it is clear they care very much for the safety of their customers. The instructors are fantastic, especially Amy and Dani, and while the classes are a little shorter for now to accommodate cleaning and safe entry/exit between classes, they are no less challenging and variable than they were before COVID; I promise you'll feel like you really got a great workout. They are great with newbies too; they balance keeping the group working while individuals can always get the attention they need. This is a fantastic place to try out if you've always wanted to try Pilates but feel nervous about starting. Overall, an amazing, all women-owned studio that treats its customers incredibly well. It offers well balanced and challenging workouts, in a beautiful clean studio with a very friendly positive and upbeat atmosphere set by the instructors and which inspires the clientele too. I just moved to the area a few months ago and I've tried a few studios but I like that this studio has a lot of class times. I haven't worked out in a really long time so I'm glad I finally found a workout that I actually enjoy. I'm on my second month at this place and I really like it. There's almost always parking (metered street parking and parking in back) and lots of natural lighting. It's clean and the AC and ceiling fans are always on so it's nice and cool. The instructors are friendly and knowledgeable. Both the owners named Amy are so nice and their great instructors as well. I def plan to stick to this studio! read more

I have been coming to Pilate-ology for almost 2 years now and have loved pretty much every instructor I've had - they all have their own unique style, are attentive and radiate warmth and concern for all their students. This year I am pregnant with my first child and I wanted to continue group Pilates in order to stay in shape and prepare for the birth. They requested a doctors note from my ob/gyn for approval and asked I take a private pre-natal class at the start of each new trimester, which I happily did/do to learn adjustments. With this knowledge I feel safe and comfortable continuing my group classes, and all the group instructors always make a point to provide additional pointers for any adjustments or new moves I'm unfamiliar with. I feel very taken care of by this studio and very lucky to be able to be able continue this workout under their care and attention! read more
