The Pilates Reformer class was challenging, but not in a way that makes you feel overwhelmed or defeated. Heather is a fantastic instructor. She gives clear and motivating instruction. cynthia, being 4 minutes late because of my uber and a slow learner bc of being a beginner and the…read moreanxiety and adhd (which i mentioned and apologized for) is no reason to be condescending to anyone. she was seemingly super irritated that my form kept reversing, but i was in a beginner class to be corrected and taught gently, (and that spring sound makes trying to listen hard sometimes too!!). it was so condescending i was actually having even more trouble focusing, which only made her worse as it progressed. at one point she said "and now we'll do something REALLY EASY which is put the box on the reformer" i went to move the box more towards the middle and she immediately assumed i was being stupid and wouldn't let me correct it for like a full minute. once i accidentally forgot to put my handle on the rung and the next time she said to do it, i told her i did already, she said no on the rung. i kept saying no i did and she walked over and adjusted it, from on the rung to still on the rung. it felt like she wasted more time on correcting things i didn't even do wrong than i did being late. i was so intimidated by her at the end of it i was wiping my machine down more thoroughly so she wouldn't be more upset, then she up behind me and say "ok ali! i think you've got it SPARKLY clean, you can stop" she would also whisper to the others (always initiating it from as far as i could hear) and there were those weird looks. kinda like weird mean girl behavior. it was the rudest i've ever been treated by an employee, bc i never do anything to warrant it bc again i have such bad anxiety. i was even being kind and smiling while being treated like that. my friend had to convince me to even write this. i made the first yelp review ive made in i think over 5 years because of it. idk what i did to make her treat me like this, i was 4 min late (due to an uber, not because of me) but i apologized profusely and got ready quickly, im a slow learner but very polite and willing to learn despite all of this, and wasn't rude or asking for any extra attention because again i was so intimidated by her & didn't wanna waste more of ppls time

tl;dr: We went to DanceEdge to get private lessons for our first dance. We found two incredible…read moredancers and people: Maya and Jeff. They're patient, talented, and supportive of their community. We loved each lesson, and ended up with a first dance that felt like us. I cannot recommend them enough! My husband and I came to DanceEdge to get private lessons for our first dance. After the first two lessons from their intro package, we ended up adding ten more. While we were still forming the choreography, we went every week. After we were more comfortable, we did a lesson every other week. Two of the twelve private lessons weren't used for our first dance though. One lesson was with my dad for our father-daughter dance. We practiced a hand-off, a basic step, and, of course, how he can spin me :) The other lesson was post-wedding. We caught up, showed off our first dance video, and spent the rest of the time learning the hustle, haha. These private lessons have been such a great date night. Especially as the chaos of wedding planning takes over, it's nice to spend some intentional time with my partner. We would do it again in a heartbeat. If you're a couple and you're coming to your first wedding dance lesson, you'll just need to bring your wedding shoes (or something similar), and your first dance song. They'll take care of the rest. Why is DanceEdge so special? **Patience** Our instructor Maya is incredibly talented and super patient. My husband and I are both uncoordinated, but we never felt like she was frustrated with us. Maya always met us where we were, and took extra time on parts where we needed it. **Personal** Maya worked with us to make it feel like *our* first dance. As we would develop new choreography, she'd often give us two options to try out. We would do both, and decide which we prefer. She was always super receptive to feedback and suggestions from us. For example, we suggested a dip kiss to close out the dance, and she was happy to work it in for us. We'd also talk about how we want the dance to feel (joyful? romantic? showy? etc.). I'm sure this helped us align our vision to create the perfect first dance. **Talented** One of our lessons was with Jeff. He was able to provide a fresh perspective on our dance. We focused on things that we hadn't considered as much before, like musicality and making lines with the body. For just one lesson, he made a huge impact on our dance. In the lesson, he shared more about his and Maya's resumes. (Maya is too humble to brag. Jeff is not ). Jeff has coached for OSU's dance team, received multiple awards for teaching, and has been featured on "So You Think You Can Dance". Maya has earned her fair share teaching awards as well. Just last year, she placed second in a national dance competition. She's been dancing and competing with Jeff since she was young, so they're very in-sync at this point. My memory is hazy, so I'm sure there are awards I missed (and failed to Google). But trust, they are incredible at what they do. **Community-Oriented** Part of the introductory package gives us entry into a group dance class. We had a lot of fun learning bachata for the first time. Everyone was incredibly friendly and there to have fun. It's a very positive space. There are people of all skill levels, so no matter who you are, you won't feel out of place. Alongside bachata, they had performances throughout the night -- including us! We were asked at a previous lesson if we would like to perform our first dance. It was a lot of fun, and a great method to get any performance jitters out of the way. I'm incredibly grateful that Maya and Jeff let us share our first dance with everyone. As if they aren't wonderful enough, DanceEdge does a lot to support their local community. I don't know the extent of it, but from what I understand, they help provide dance classes to under-privileged kids. As a former under-privileged kid myself, I know how much dance lessons would've meant to me growing up. I'm glad that the money from our private lessons is helping them out.

I studied here for several years during middle and high school and stayed long enough to reach 1st…read moredegree black belt. At that time, the school's late founder and best asset, Joon Pyo Choi was still young enough and enthusiastic enough to train anyone willing to come often and put in the effort. Master Choi was the US Olympic Coach for the 1988 games, the first time Korean Karate/Taekwondo was part of the event. Needless to say, Master Choi of North Korea was the real deal. He stood barely over five feet but had the kicking power and speed to rival the world's most competitive athletes, and he was an excellent instructor. I have not been to "OMAC" in almost two decades, so I cannot offer a valuable update on what the school is like nowadays. I can, however, confidently say that joining a school like this will likely improve certain aspects of your life, including your mental health and general fitness, but it will not teach you how to defend yourself in the event you are attacked on the street. In fact, it may even give you a false sense of confidence that could result in an even less desirable outcome. Taekwondo is an enjoyable sport, and you will learn to throw great kicks, but when you consider that nearly all real-life altercations occur in closer quarters, resulting in at least a clinch, if not wrestling, with punches and elbows aimed at your face from various angles, all the while, taekwondo's drills are insufficient. If you are looking for a place to send your kids to practice discipline, determination, and respect, OMAC is an excellent choice. You can also make lifelong friends here. However, if you're hoping to learn practical self-defense, you should look into jiu jitsu schools to supplement some kind of boxing or kickboxing training, where you regularly spar with someone who stands closer to you and throws punches at your face with intent. All this being said, OMAC was a real blessing in my life, and I was lucky to know Master Choi for those few precious years. I had a lot of fun, and focusing on climbing the ranks and learning the techniques kept me in good spirits all through high school.
