This is a consistently good place to stop when we're driving to Michigan...and coming back. In my opinion, if you pass this stop up heading back to Illinois, your options are going to get less and less appealing (trust me, you don't want to stop anywhere near Gary). If you download the Pilot app, you can find some nice deals, including 10 cents per gallon discount and other goodies. The washrooms here are immaculate! They have a Subway and a McDonalds and Pilot has some hot food offerings near the register (pizza, chicken, potato wedges, sides, etc). Pilot has a deal where you can get two slices of pizza and a 20oz. Pepsi for $8. Not too bad when two people need a snack and one of them prefers coffee over soda. I also like that they have a designated area for your furry friends to go potty. read more

Came in to the Pilot on the way home from Brookfield zoo. I've been here several times over the years and the bathrooms have consistently been clean. Being a day trip person, having a spot to go where I know the bathrooms are clean is a must. Pilot stations tend to be consistently clean and they have showers (usually for truckers but I don't think it is exclusively for truckers). The Pilot has lots of snacks including prepackaged, hot meals, and drinks. If you want something more than that, this location also has a Subway and a McDonald's to get you through. Whether you need gas, a bathroom, or even a snack, this gas station is a fine choice. read more

Inside is nice enough for a travel station but their gas pumps are molasses slow. Takes forever for the machine to read your card, ask for rewards, then FINALLY scan. Then the pump pumps so damn slow I literally checked in and wrote this review and it's STILL not even at half a tank (6 gal) what the actual f*ck? Give me my gas and let me go already!!! read more

First or last exit of truck stop gas stations before or after all the ridic Chicagoland traffic. If you're heading east, it's super easy to pull into because you just get off the highway and go to the right. Gas will be much cheaper than Chicago here so fill up. There's a McDonald's & a Subway here plus a decent supply of road trip snacks and drinks in the convenience store. The bathroom was relatively clean. Just make sure your stall door locks completely before you get to business. read more

This place was alot better than the last time that I've visited here. It's got a clean exterior, featuring a beautiful litter free parking lot accompanied by the gas pumps for automobiles and trucks. Inside is very clean, it's very well stocked as well. This place also features a Subway and a McDonald's as well. Tons of other warm food provided by the gas station employees. The gas stations mini mart is great with its selection but price wise is really expensive in my opinion. I gas here often while traveling in Michigan. Gas that is like 50 cents a gallon cheaper than Chicago is what its all about. This is a typical gas mart type of a situation and that is just fine. There is a subway and McDonalds attached and are most convenient for eating on the fly. read more

stopped going to Michigan on our way and stopped on our way back to Tennessee. Both clerks on duty were very rude.

I hate Indiana. The only good thing about Indiana is that it is on the way to Chicago and has much cheaper gas prices. I stopped here on my way home on Thanksgiving and there was a huge line to fill up. Their gas is cheap and they have a Subway and a McDonald's which were both open on thanksgiving. The bathrooms were clean and attended. Pilot generally has all the knick knacks you could live without, but after driving in the car for 3 hours at 7am, you totally need that Indiana magnet. Get one for your mom, too. She'll appreciate it. (Don't forget the energy drink) read more

If you are driving back to Chicago from either Michigan or Indiana this would be the place to stop for a fill up. A large truck stop with a McDonald's and Subway. What else could you possible desire? A clean shower? Well that's an option (7 of them to be exact). Gas was roughly 60 cents cheaper than in the city, cigs are nearly half off, and everything else seem more economical. Don't mistake economical for poor kept bathrooms because you won't find them here. If nothing else it's worth a stop for a snack, refreshment, or good ol' fashion people watching to give you a break from the road. I really do love these big travel centers. They remind me of my summer road trips as a kid - aisles of candy, cases upon cases of drinks, cool toys, etc. Now that I'm an adult, I still appreciate the candy, drinks, and toys, but more importantly the gas prices and cleanliness. The Cheapest gas in the industry as of todays date i paid $2.49 a gallon. They offer a wide variety of Coffee my best is Columbian and dark roast, Mmmm good. McDonald's is next door for your convenience. I love Pilot for being so convenient with all their junk/greasy unhealthy food. read more

They've got everything in the world that you need and don't need. So much stuff, I felt a panic attack coming on. Bathroom filled with old women wearing too much old lady perfume, pretending to wash their hands, but are really only making a small pond on. The counter. A small tiff with a Subway 'Sandwich Artist', because apparently her disgruntled disposition on life was effected by my sandwich. Be careful if you stop at this location. I got robbed for $1000. If you google theft ring in Burns Harbor Pilot it comes right up. Seems like they have had problems dating back to 2005 and the Police Department is aware of this. Keep your vehicle locked at all times. Do not engage in any conversation if some one approaches you. Do not park or sleep in that back parking lot where the truckers are parked. Pilots security cameras do not cover that area. The inside of the store is nice and the staff are friendly but it's the location. I just hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. If the perps are reading this I will be ready and waiting for you next time and it won't end well for you. read more

This is the cleanest truck stop that I have ever been to. It was full of people and the washrooms were spotless. I stuck the hose in the car and I went in for a burger. The people couldn't have been any friendlier. The service was fast and I was out of there and done with the whole shabange in less than 10 minutes. They also have a Subway on the other side. And the gas was 30 cents cheaper a gallon than an Illinois. Woo Hoo! read more
