I have been going to the Italian Kitchen for over 20 years. So has my family. Late last year 2025 I stopped and purchased a sub and some other items which I always do when I am in Pennsville. I was about 10 miles away when I noticed that my sub was not what I had ordered. I called there and told them. The woman that I spoke to was extremely nice, took my name and said the next time I was there to give my name and I would get a free sub. This past Friday (2-6-26)I went there, gave them my name and they said I wasn't in the system. I said to the lady do I look like the type of person that is going to come in here and try to get a free sub. I asked if the owner was there and she said yes. I asked to speak with her. She went into the kitchen and I could see her talking to the owner. She refused to come out. I told the lady that I was speaking with that I knew that it wasn't her fought but the worse thing was that the owner wouldn't even come out and speak to a long time customer and that really sucks! What can I really say... Salem county has only one real cheesesteak and Italian sub/hoagie spot and this is it. Not only do they give you the bang for your buck but the quality is right there with it. Really this stop is the only reason I would stop in Salem county to be honest. He's the one who told me that Bruce Willis is the one who said "best cheesesteak around"! I love this place, but it is rare I receive my food as ordered. My order is consistently wrong. I say no tomato and I get tomato. I saw oil and vinegar on the side, I received no oil and vinegar. I say onions on half , whole thing covered in onions. I'm not sure where communication breaks down, but 43.00 of food and it's all wrong , for the 20th time, is frustrating. I clearly order my food, the order is repeated, once picked up.. something is missing, added or just completely wrong. Go for the subs and sandwiches; they're excellent and big. Depending on your tastes, you may want to skip the baked goods section. The first time we went, while our subs were being made, we picked up a slice of what was labeled "banana bread" (although we'd never seen banana bread that looked like this) and an oatmeal cookie. Never again. The banana bread reminded me of the hard, dark breads that my mom would pick up every Christmas; the ones that we had to slather with cream cheese to give them any moisture and make them chewable. This piece was dense, didn't really have any smell (certainly not a "banana bread" smell), and there was no discernable evidence of a banana being anywhere in the kitchen when this was baked. It was uniformly dark brown, with none of the usual banana flecks. The oatmeal cookie was huge and looked delicious, but instead of allowing the natural sweetness of oatmeal to be highlighted with just a minimum of sugar, this cookie clobbered you with sweetness that seemed like a molasses flavor. There was so much sweetening happening here, that it was crystallized on the cookie! Speaking of sweetening where it's not needed, we eagerly awaited the beginning of "chili season", and when it finally arrived, we got ourselves over to Italian Kitchen for a bowl. I nearly gagged on the first spoonful from the over-sweetening. This must be some modified "east coast chili" recipe, because real western chili has little or no sugar, and definitely not enough that it's the first thing you taste. It was, like, sugar soup with an undertone of beans and tomatoes. I ate a couple more bites and threw the rest away. They have a good assortment of chips and a "Quickie Mart" section where you can pick up butter, milk, orange juice, or something from their wide assortment of soft drinks and fruit juice. There's a small eat-in area in the front, and parking seems ample. When it gets crowded, someone comes out to the front and starts taking orders without waiting for the customer to get to the counter. That's considerate, and really moves things along. I'll try their salads, at some point; salads are hard to wreck. I had been hoping to try a pizza, too, but wonder if they over-sweeten the pizza sauce, same as the chili. I'd rather drive to Woodstown for pizza that we already know is delicious than take a chance on a pizza that we can't eat. Maybe they'll let us taste a sample first. Hubby is quite taken with the place, so we'll be back often, but we'll be sticking mostly with subs and chips. read more

I'm so fortunate to now live in Pennsville and have this establishment a few miles away. It's a one stop shop, really. EVERYTHING I've had is good. From the pizza, cheesesteaks, wraps, and assorted slices of cake - to full blown catering and a custom birthday cake. This place does it all, and they are the best in the area by far. If you ever have the chance to use them for catering, get the twisted mac & cheese. It is to die for. Their birthday cake is baked onsite and was moist and delicious. Their cheesesteaks and wraps are HUGE and both easily enough for two meals. In fact, half of their wraps are the equivalent to a whole wrap just about anywhere else. This is the place for seriously good eats in Pennsville, New Jersey. The sheer quantity of food for the price is off the scales. The pizza, the hoagies, the sides, they are so well priced. Not only that, there is a further huge selection of good sitting out for order- steak strombolis, pepperoni breads, Italian good (like stuffed pepper, marinated mozzarella, etc etc) just waiting to be gobbled up. Something that would cost close to ten bucks in the city is under $4 here. You just cant beat that. But it isnt just the bargain-basement prices that make Italian Kitchen special. It is also the quality. Everything is made WELL here. The sad fact is that most of the hoagies, cheesesteaks and pizzas in South philly cannot even be mentioned in the same BREATH as Italian Kitchen. Places like this find a niche and go with it, whereas in the city it is a clusterfuck of crap all rolled up and sold as regional cuisine. Consequently, everyones quality goes down. That's why speciality stores are better in the city (ie Vietnamese, Italian pastries, Mexican food) and generic "American" tends to shine in the burbs.
