When I say I love this boutique, I'm not kidding. When I lived in Oakland I visited this amazing shop ALL THE TIME. I take professional photos and no look is complete without the right accessories. Annette, Julia and Celine are incredible hostesses. They make you feel as though you are the only one in the store and no one is more important. This small boutique is so full of jewelry and accessories that you could spend an entire afternoon here and still not take everything in. I like to stay friends with my ex-girlfriends, and an essential component of that is gifts at appropriate times. One of the aforementioned exes is the recipient of an annual Christmas tree ornament. This is the place I usually go. The store's sort of fun to visit, and when I need a fancier than usual ornament, they never fail me. The old ladies who work here are nice too, despite being so close to Berkeley. On the other hand, some of the clientele are definitely from north of the border ("please," "excuse me," and "thank you" are non-progressive terms of oppressive white hetero-normative cis tyranny, doncha know), but if one is able to get there when the store first opens, one should be okay. 5 stars because of fancy ornaments when I need them. read more

I agree with Jackie G. that this place is like a fabulous art museum chock full of beautiful sparkly goodies and vintage treats. Definitely not the least expensive game in town, but they make up for it with their wonderfully uncommon assortment of accessories, including a small selection of vintage hats, gloves, and bags. It's a virtually microscopic piece of real estate on Piedmont Avenue though, so they shine with their stock of small items like earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. I have never worn a piece from Pimlico Place and not been complimented on it. Their lovely, thoughtful pieces range from simple and understated to flat-out carnivalesque. A great place to treat yourself or someone else to something truly unique. My only complaint would be that sometimes the service can be a bit overbearing. Anyways: This little Piedmont shop has all kinds of decadent, kooky, vintage ecclectica... hats and unusual baubles from around the world... If you get an invite to a themed party, a masquerade or high tea, you can definitely find a little something here that will boost your mystique factor... and who among us doesn't want that? The 'home furnishings' annex is right around the corner, and is a bigger space... it is opulent in a costumey way... but I'm not as enthralled by it. Take a peek, because it's a bit of eye candy: fun and low calorie. 3 Stars for the Annex. The hat that I wore at the inaugural Yelp 2008 event at Bollyhood was a splurge from Janie Lawson, imported from France... elegant and chic, if I do say so myself. The craftsmanship is positively divine! I brought my four-year-old daughter there the other night after dinner, and the lovely Jenna behind the counter turned the browse into a magical fieldtrip of beautiful jewels for my daughter to see and touch. I was so taken with Jenna's low-pressure banter and kind manner with my daughter that I decided I couldn't leave without thanking her with a purchase. She helped both my daughter and I pick out something small for me (a vintage pair of clip-on earrings) and my girl (a purple-sparkly headband, what else?). Knowing that the evening was turning into this sweet moment between mama and daughter, Jenna specially wrapped up our trinkets with beautiful grosgrain ribbons that now adorn my daughter's pigtails. Score. I was looking for a gift for my boss whose birthday is tomorrow. She is a stylish dresser who tends to wear very unique jewelry that runs the spectrum from colorful to whimsical to goofy to striking and everything in between. I was fingering colorful plastic rings strung into a necklace and marveling at jewel-toned striped acrylic rings when the owner offered assistance. I wasn't ready for help so continued to browse while she helped several other people at the counter who seemed like regular customers. Miraculously I found myself in a back room where everything was on sale and was still really cool. I found a great tangle of layered colorful acrylic necklaces from Paris that on sale were still out of my price range. The owner swooped by to let me know I could have those at a further discount which was perfect. Winning necklace in hand I continued to wonder at the many marvels here and finally could resist no longer. "Does _______ shop here?" I asked the owner. She beamed and said that she has been a regular customer for the past six years and proclaimed that she would love what I had selected. She's getting it tomorrow night and I hope she does. Oooh, Piedmont ave got itself a fine place to buy gifts when Pimlico moved in. The store packs quality or fun small objects in a lovely setting, and Annette, the owner, is amazing in her finds and customer care. She obviously buys stuff all over Europe (mostly new and hip stuff, but some antique pieces too: I love the bakelite forks and knives. The fine original costume jewelry is a bit out of my reach, but it is certainly gorgeous) , or maybe the local flea markets , but once they are in the store, everything looks regal. The prices vary but on the whole, i'd say you can find great gifts at very affordable prices. Plus the atmosphere in the shop is very low key, and...friendly -REALLY ! I absolutely love the complete make-over of my apartment done through the expert guidance of interior designer and shop owner, Annette Benyamin. Having gotten great jewelry and bags and fashion advice from Pimlico for several years, I was amazed to discover the extent of the home furnishings offered. The quality, character and appeal of each piece is outstanding and the prices are quite good. In the end I almost fully refurnished my apartment from Pimlico: gorgeous coffee table, big arm chair, dining table, armoirs, Mongolian chest, side tables, a handsome bench, 9 floor and table lamps! lovely mirror, a graceful Italian chandellier and plenty of luscious pillows. The whole house decor works together beautifully without being fussy or formal. Everyone loves it. All I needed to get elsewhere was a couch, bed and dresser.
