My wife talked to a woman (Julie) at Pine Hill Nursery about some plantings at our Elk Rapids Michigan cottage, way back in April. She called back later, had some overall planting recommendations, said she didn't actually do landscaping design. Guy named Ben came out to the cottage in June, said he would get back to us with recommendations, sketches, costs etc. Never heard back from him. My wife texted him back... Nothing from Ben. We went back to Pine Hill in July, talked to another guy, Ralph? I asked who we should really talk to if we were to have any chance of Pine Hill actually following up. He said he was the owner, of course he would follow up. In fact his brother (Paul?) would follow up with a phone call. Crickets. It has been weeks. Pine Hill has always come highly recommended in the area. And yes, folks up here are on "lake time" so things do tend to take awhile. But the runaround and total lack of movement from these guys has been amazing to behold. They don't call back/text/ any kind of follow-up communications that they say they will do. Their facilities are nice, we've bought plants there a number of times, even had lunch at their lunch counter a few times. But I'm sorry, if you need someone to actually do some work? Go elsewhere. read more

This nursery is set on a sprawling setting, and well-maintained paths make it easy to navigate. Items are clumped together in varieties that make sense while there are also artful arrangements landscaped for inspiration. While they seemed somewhat short-staffed this summer, with two designers that were seemingly too busy to return my phone call, the employees that I did speak to were both friendly and helpful. I'm over here waiting for Yelp to give us a ten-star option because that's what I'd give this review. I can't stop talking about our visit to Pine Hill. I will go as far to say this is one of my favorite spots I've ever been in the world. I was so happy and peaceful here. Our intention was just to grab lunch, and there aren't many spots in Kewadin. We pulled up and I was immediately impressed. Okay, I was immediately squealing with delight. The nursery was so beautiful. Perfectly landscaped with lots of thoughtful touches. This is more like an oasis you escape to, instead of a retail nursery. The grounds were so enjoyable to walk through. We made our way back to the cafe and I once again was giddy when i saw the antique and gift shop. This place was darling. Great mix of items and gifts- local handmade items, pretty things to look at. The cafe had a great little menu and the most adorable patio. I had the Italian sandwich and it was very good. Honestly, they could have served me a pile of dirt and I would have been just as happy. I would recommend for any plants, bushes or trees, they have a great variety of beautiful, healthy stock, albeit a little pricey. But in the plant world, you do get what you pay for, their products are stellar. What I would not recommend is their landscape services. I wanted them so badly to do a large scale landscape project, but they never showed for our scheduled apts. We would drive hours to meet them, and no call, nothing. After 18 months of practically begging them to come out and give us a plan/quote, the guy I was trying to work with told me to just go somewhere else. BTW we are only 5.2 miles away from them. (We got quotes from others at $70-$120k) We did go somewhere else, and found our dream completed through Mel's Excavating, beyond our expectations. read more

Beautiful inside and outside Incredible nursery with every plant imaginable. Enjoyed a wonderful yogurt parfait with fresh cut Michigan peaches made by a very dapper, lovely gentleman who was so charming and friendly. He spent so much time giving us great travel tips to see the area. What a lovely place with friendly employees and beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend eating outside in their garden cafe which feels nothing like a restaurant but had some great offerings. Told they have live music on the weekends which we didn't get to experience but I'd you are in the area don't miss this gem. read more

Beautiful setting for a cafe, delicious food, and our server was the sweetest guy and very attentive.

So this is a nice hidden gem (both the cafe and the nursery). The menu includes burgers, pizza and a few other small dishes and a nice selection of beers and wines. The Margarhita pizza is the best I have ever eaten!! This is a wonderful relaxing environment that includes entertainment and always the beautiful mixture of outdoor seating and beautiful landscaping. The staff does the best they can, especially with the shortage of workers now in northern Michigan, so please be patient with them. Food is excellent, but you just have to be willing to go with the flow with respect to speediness of service. Once the order is in, the food comes out quickly. A gorgeous garden center that has amazing variety and quality of plants. The cafe was simply delicious with a nice size menu. The local wines and beers were delightful. The live music was fun. Echoing some of the comments below, this place is truly a hidden gem. The cafe is located within a nursery and gardening center with beautiful outdoor seating. The service was impeccable and the food was fresh and delicious. I ordered the harvest salad while my fiancé ordered the club sandwich. While both were amazing, we both agreed that the harvest salad was the star of the show. The staff were all following face mask regulations and there are signs throughout both he nursery and cafe asking customers to wear masks. If you are staying in northern Michigan and are nearby I would highly recommend grabbing a bite to eat here. read more

I'm from Southern California and we were visiting Northern Michigan and stumbled upon this delightful garden center and cafe. As an avid gardener, I couldn't help but stop by and check it out. They have a vast selection of healthy and vibrant annuals, perennials, fruit trees and landscape trees. And to top it off, they have a wonderful little cafe tucked away amongst the garden. What a treat. A must stop if you visit the Torch Lake area (locals and visitors alike). read more

Beautiful outdoor patio! Such a nice setting and the live music adds a great ambience. I have been here for both coffee/breakfast and also for dinner. It is not gourmet but the food is really good. Great plants but horrible service! Tried to order plants and was never called back. Called again, same thing. After the third try, we finally got through, and at long last got our plants delivery. However, there were numerous plants missing! No follow up calls, no sorries, our problem. After repeatedly trying to get through we managed to speak to the owner. "Sorry, we made a mistake, but we won't deliver the plants to you," she replied. They did agree to refund our money for the plants, but not take off anything for the delivery charge. Ate here on 6/14/18 with 3 golfing buddies. Three of us had Rusty Burgers and one guy had Peanut Pad Thai. We also had Vietnamese Summer Rolls. All food was very tasty. Fantastic surprise for late lunch at the end of a long day on the bike (and in the water at Torch Lake). Definitely recommend the ham and provolone sandwich and the falafel wrap. Pine Hill has a pretty good selection and staff are helpful (when the nursery is not busy!). They will deliver and will plant. Not the cheapest nursery in the north. read more
