I have been coming to the wayside market for many years and I genuinely enjoy going there to get a smoothie and maybe a snack. The only thing that deters me from coming back every time is thinking I am going to be checked out by the rude gremlin in the front. Everytime I've gone I have a horrible experience with that one staff member who obviously has no customer service skills. He should not be working in the front if he doesn't know how to communicate kindly and respectfully to his customers. When I ordered my smoothie my card declined and he declared it loudly about three times and was being extremely nitpicky when it came to me ordering. I had a friend with me and when she went to pay he would not stop staring at her chest. Who ever is the owner of this establishment needs to do some serious reevaluation of this staff member because it is deterring customers from this market place where people come to get some fresh produce and have a good time. No one comes for the blatant disrespect and unprofessionalism. Do better. read more

Tucked into a shaded street, Pinecrest Wayside Market has been in business since 1948. It started out as a fruit stand but over the years other items were added like prepared foods, salads, baked goods, jams, sauces, and ice cream. It is the kind of place that appeals to both locals or someone passing by as I was that day. We saw the stand on our way to Pinecrest Gardens and after a hot day of walking around the gardens I was craving one of their advertised famous smoothies. I picked the strawberry breeze and my daughter had their strawberry banana. Two small smoothies were $9. Not on the cheap side but we were playing tourist for the day. They were indeed delicious. Mine was filled with strawberry flavor as advertised. It was very soothing on the scratchy throat I was developing and refreshing on the hot day. There are picnic tables out front if you want to stop and enjoy your snack. A great array of tropical produce was on display. There is also a lovely tree providing shade. If you are in the area visiting Pinecrest Gardens of Fairchild Tropical Gardens this is a fun stop to make. read more

If you live in the neighborhood you can walk or bike over otherwise pull-over and pick up a variety of fruit, veggies, and homemade backed goods. You can also get sandwiches, smoothies, and milkshakes. The last time I went I noticed the sign said they have a famous strawberry milkshake. So, strawberry it was. After all they've been doing it since 1948 so I'll trust the sign. The prices are fair and the quality spot on. The milkshakes are good and the pecan pies are delicious. A few tables with benches under the trees outside, so get to enjoy your juice or slice of pie right there if you like. Some vegan baked goods but mostly just homemade pies, muffins and cookies. I love this spot so much. It is located right on red road, and it is the perfect spot for a smoothie and a snack. When I was growing up, I would come with friends to this spot for a shaved ice or smoothie. Now, I come for their delicious prepared foods. I love their chopped chicken salad, because it isn't prepared with a huge amount of mayo and seems to be a healthier choice. I also love the Thai slaw salad, just make sure you check the expiration date. I don't know the guy's name that works there, but he always recognizes me and gives me a huge smile and greeting when I pay for my food. I also love the smoothies and shakes. You can't go wrong with any flavor or combination. I try to go for the fruit smoothies with honey for a lighter option. This little place is so special, that it even has a huge menu for catered foods. They prepare a beautiful salmon platter that is always a crowd favorite. Stop in for a snack! This is a very adorable open-air market that has been around for years. Adorable because it's small, quaint, and family-run. Prices seem to be reasonable for the nice goodies here as well, but I did not buy many things. Atmosphere: Think of a mixture between Norman's Brothers and Robert Is Here fruit stand - but much smaller. It's more of a nice market to cover basic things rather than an extensive farmer's market or a giant supermarket. You can get your fruits and veggies here, and there's also some store-made sauces for sale here. They bake their own pies, make their own shakes, and there's some focus on organic and all-natural stuff here (I had never tried an all-natural ginger ale before coming here - but no, that wasn't made on site). And when I came here, I was tempted to buy a baguette - it was fresh and hot! I'd definitely return to scope the offerings - it's very easy to drive by, but the market itself is a worthwhile stop, especially for those with a foodie-heart who may be driving by the area to Pinecrest Gardens or Fairchild Tropical Park. read more

I passed this place every weeks for months when I would go on my long runs down Red Road while training for a half-marathon. At those times I was too anxious to finish my runs that I did not take time to stop and check out this market despite my burning desire! That's why this morning I finally hopped in the car and headed to the market to see what it's all about. From fresh produce and pre-made sandwiches to pastas and dips, they definitely have great fresh food! I was at a loss of what I wanted to get but decided to step up to the counter and order one of their milkshakes that sounded too good to pass up. They have pretty much every flavor you can want and I decided to go with the key lime. It was definitely one of the best milkshakes I have ever had. The consistency and flavor was everything I could have hoped for and I couldn't stop slurping it up. I also snagged one of their banana chocolate chip muffins sitting next to the register and it was delicious. I almost went crazy deciding which kind to get but am happy that I went with this one! There they also had samples of their corn, black bean and mediterranean hummus. Of course, I had to try them all and will definitely be picking up some the next time I am back (which I'm sure will be soon). I know that there's no way I can keep my friends from trying one of these milkshakes because that would be just plain rude of me.... And I may or may not need to try one of their pies that looked just as scrumptious as the muffins. read more

Saturday mornings at the market was such a delight. I stopped by as I was on my way down to the Pinecrest Library and couldn't resist some fresh juices and home baked goods. I took a quick browse through the entire market and was so surprised and excited to see they bring cinnamon rolls from Knaus Berry Farm. I can't wait to pick up a pack next week. They brought them fresh and packaged good to go. During my visit I did order the "cleanse juice" off their juice menu. It consisted of beets, carrots, and celery. It was a nice pick me up and I also could not pass up the delicious chicken empanadas from their oven. It was crisp, juicy and bulging of flavor. I was looking for a place to buy fruit and well get a nice fruit shake and stumbled into this place which was close to my house and home of the strawberry shake! This place has a lot of fresh fruits, vegetables as well as pre-made sandwiches, salads, dips and baked goods. So I came here to get some tropical fruit. Being Vietnamese-American, I missed the fruits that I had when I went to Vietnam and I wanted to find the place with the best tropical fruits while I am here in Miami. I wanted to get Dragon fruit for sure and I was looking for the red version, one of the workers told me the white ones were on the left and the red was on the right (LOL the sign only said white version). Red ones tend to be sweeter and then white ones. The employee there was very nice and told me a lot about each fruit. He told me the whites ones are specifically sought out after for diabetics since it is less sweet. I also grabbed some avocados and oranges as well. I went here thinking I wanted the Strawberry shake but instead I went for the Mango Chiller since the cashier kinda sold it to me when I asked him about each shake. It was mango and coconut in it! Super tropical. The shake itself was very fresh tasting with no added sugars. However, I did have some ice chips in my shake so it was not blended well. All and all, this will be my go to fruit place since all the fruits are so fresh. read more

It is too bad that most of the people who work here don't seem very happy. They are not friendly nor helpful. They seem put off by any questions or requests. It is not the original owner as it used to be a very local, friendly place. It is because of the management & people who work behind the counter that I and the people in my neighborhood no longer go there. Not enjoyable. Hirni's the florist across the street used to own it back in the day and it was a totally different experience. Just as they are top notch friendly service oriented & excellent product so did this place use to be. There was one gentleman who answered the phone on a Saturday and he is who earned this one star for it represents all that was good. Was super excited to come here after not being able to go for a while. Was highly disappointed with the strawberry shake. It used to taste so good and now it tastes like watered down iced yogurt with a hint of strawberry. I took one sip and went back to let them know and the lady looked bugged and instead of remaking the whole thing, she just scooped more strawberry and blended it again coming out all watery. Poor service and very lazy. The only reason I give two stars is because my boyfriend said his mamey shake was good. All I have to say is if it's not broken don't fix it! read more

I grew up going here but wow has the service gone down hill. Their business pages have incorrect operating hours. The Yelp says closed at 6. I got here at 5:45 only to see it was closed. I started speaking in Spanish to the owner or employee, informing him that the hours are incorrect and he said he didn't understand what I was saying. When previously when I've been here I've seen the same man speaking Spanish with native proficiency. When I switched to English he just decided to be incredibly rude and dismissive. Yelp also says 7:30 for opening but they really open whenever the cashier shows up, closer to 8. They need to get their attitude and staff in check. read more

This is the first time I am leaving a review and I'm sorry it's a negative one. As a restaurant owner myself I'd be very embarrassed to see how the register attendant is representing their business. She has such a horrible attitude, screaming and speeding up the customers before giving a chance to look at a menu, her crass ways will ensure I will never visit this place again. As a kid, I used to pop over to Wayside Market after school for a snow cone or a strawberry milkshake. Back then, my metabolism was a force to be reckoned with and any sweet or high calorie snack never stood a chance against my indestructible chemical process. On visits to Wayside these days, I quickly (and somewhat begrudgingly) opt for the refrigerated fresh coconut water (sucked out of a straw in an actual coconut) and the well-stocked fruits and veggies available for plucking. It's worth noting that the famous milkshakes are still there and so is the whimsical charm of an open-air fresh produce stand. You'll find plenty of fresh fruits and veggies to snack on and if you're lucky, the fruit expert will offer you samples of the freshest mango, star fruit, Thai guava and a medley of other (also chilled) items. Not only do I love this place for the nostalgia, I love it for the location. You're cruising down Red Road and by this point in your drive, you're getting hit with that old Florida feel. I thank my lucky stars every day that I was fortunate enough to grow up down the street from this lovely market. I've had some of my most memorable experiences here (including my first kiss in the bike path behind the store :) as well as not so good ones (I wont ruin the review by getting into details.) Still, there isn't a week that goes by in which I don't walk down the street with either my dog, parent or sibling to have one of their famous milkshakes or smoothies (their Papaya and Mango shakes are probably my favorites). It's definitely a community market...well more like a shack really. The place consists of just one big L shaped counter, behind which you'll find the owners blending up your pick of fruit and yogurt, 3 isles full of healthy snacks, a refrigerator wall, and 3- 4 fruit stands. There are 5 green picnic tables right in front, each with their respective umbrellas. Not too fancy, but definitely nothing short of the quaintest spot in Pinecrest. They have some of the best fruit in town, mostly grown locally (you can count on finding the famous S. Florida Star fruit, or Carambola here, without a doubt!) and some really good homemade pies and desserts. They also make some really good salads, including a very tasty hummus and some delicious tabbouleh. It is truly a great hangout for families. I always see lots of them making pit stops after walks or bike rides to enjoy some refreshments on the weekends, and you can count on it being packed after school lets out for afternoon snacks (usually a snow cone or an ice cream.) Friendly, tasty and quaint. I can see myself turning 50 and still walking down the street every weekend to relax and enjoy a truly warm experience. Best Strawberry shakes in Miami. I've been coming here since I was a little kid. Memories. You can't go wrong with supporting a local business that's been around for over 30 years. I've tried manny fruit stands in South Florida, and I still think this one is the best for strawberry milkshakes. OMG I'm craving one right now as I write this review. Pinecrest Wayside Market has them. (When Knaus Berry Farm is open, October to April.) They also have some pretty great handspun milkshakes. Piles of Fresh, Local Fruits (as all Roadside Stands should) Baked Goods, Chilled Drinks, and more. I have cherished memories of bike rides to the Wayside Market as a kid, from my "nearby" home in Pinecrest. The reward was sipping on one of their milkshakes the entire ride back home. It's a great stop while biking the Old Cutler Bike Path, there are tables out front on which to take a nice breather and rehydrate. I'm pretty underwhelmed with this place. I live within walking distance and everyone I know is always raving about how great Wayside Market is. I just don't see it. First of all, the prices on everything from the produce to the baked goods are high. Now I don't mind paying high prices if the product is good, but I've never been impressed with anything here. I've tried several smoothies and I've really wanted to like them, but they are just so so. The smoothies tastes really watered down, the shakes are better, and the baked goods are nothing special. Secondly the thing that really gets me is you would expect a place like this to have friendly employees, but nope. Everyone working behind the counter is extremely rude. Don't bother asking them anything because they don't want to deal with you. I'm pretty sure this place lives off the novelty factor of being a random roadside stand and the fact it's been here forever. If this was a standard business in a strip mall I bet the reviews would be different. read more

4 stars for the juices and prices. But 2 for the order/pick-up area/s. As I told them, their process for ordering and pick-up doesn't make sense. They place the items that are ready pick-up near the cashier and yell out the name of the food item as the cashier is asking the customer questions and the customer is stating what he wants. Said area is also very confined. At one point, they placed someone's arepas directly in front of me as I was still ordering and I ended up handing the plate to the corresponding customer, who was behind me.
