Very disappointing! We booked for a weekend, Feb 2026 (Friday through Sunday) - snowing when we arrived - driveway had not been plowed, pathways & stairs not shoveled - though the main driveway got plowed Sunday morning, the walkways and stairs were not shoveled all weekend. We stayed in a Villa (#601) which was the first one we were put in. After lugging our luggage through an un-shoveled walkway, arriving to the villa and unpacking our bags - the fireplace was not working - nor would the door lock - after complaining to front desk - we were moved to Villa #605 - again un-shoveled walkway, un-shoveled stairs, we were happy that our door was able to be locked. We discovered the TV and fireplace were not working in this unit either - Not wanting to pack up & switch rooms again - we settled for a 10% discount on the room The hotel staff we dealt with were very polite - The resort is overpriced in its current condition - the villa's are severely outdated and in need of repair & updating - the carpets were worn, and looked dirty, window treatments were out of date and shabby looking - visible cracks down the wall in the bedroom - the patio door looked like termites had been eating it and allowed huge draft into the dining area of the villa We ate at the onsite restaurant on the Friday night - service staff were friendly - food was not great - ordered the fish and chips - the batter of the fish was so overcooked, difficult to cut even with knife - and some of the fish inside the batter was not even cooked! We stayed here during covid and had a really good experience. We stayed in a 1 BEDROOM CHALET so we wouldn't have to interact with any guests or shared entrances. The Employees: The employees at the resort went above and beyond to make sure we had a great stay. From check-in to check out our experience was very smooth. THE CHALET: The Pros: The chalet was great! We had our own parking spot and entrance so we wouldn't have to come into contact with any other guests. Some highlights from our chalet included the mini kitchen (a microwave, mini fridge, coffee maker and sink), a fantastic living room with a great fireplace to warm up, dry our snow equipment, and cozy up by the fire and a king bed. There was a big dining table for four, two sofas and two TV's. The Cons: During covid we completely clean our room when we go somewhere and the microwave was really dirty. No one had cleaned it. We called the front desk and they apologized and gave us a discount on our stay to make up for it. The amazing service from the employees at the front desk and restaurant made our stay very pleasant. The Property: The property is great. We visited during the winter and came to ski, snowshoe and ice skate. Unfortunately the ice skate rink was closed because it wasn't cold enough but the trails were fantastic. We took our new cross country skiis out and went along some trails for 3 hours. We thought we were lost on our way back to the resort and we called the front desk to see if they could help us navigate back to the resort and they gladly did. My Travel Safety Covid Tips: Bring your own cleaning supplies. Clean everything as soon as you arrive. Wipe down anything you will touch including but not limited to: doorknobs, tables, surfaces, taps, switches, chairs (all around every edge because every time you lift or move it you will touch another part of the chair and will have to wash your hands again), lamp switches, light switches, the toilet, the toilet flusher, remotes, hotel phones, and lots more. If you would like you can bring your own Tupperware, plates and cutlery to place restaurant bought food so you can enjoy it without touching the edges of the takeout container that might reduce your risk of getting infection as well. I'm not a doctor but I'm an OCD germaphobe. Would I return? Absolutely! Apparently they have a really nice indoor pool I'd love to check out in a post covid world. read more

There's a lot I loved about this place, but I think it might be mostly sentimental. My parents had their first date here, and the reason we were there was for a wedding. The wedding venue itself was truly lovely, and the golf course looked nice. However, when it came to the rooms and the hotel-ran restaurant and bar, everything was just...okay. The rooms were super spacious which was great. They also included a bar fridge, and our room had two queen beds and a little living area with a table and couch. I was pretty happy with it when we first walked in, but that's when things took a turn for the worse. The lighting was awful in the rooms - just sconces on the wall that didn't provide enough light. The bathroom was massive, but the toilet took forever to flush and the shower head wasn't installed correctly, so it could only be used on one setting. Every single person in our room, and in the room two doors down had to get their keys fixed after one use. The place was full of little things like this and when they all added up it was a bit disappointing. We also didn't have great service at the bar, for two days in a row. They opened late one our first day there and both times, it took a long time to get our food and even longer for the bill. Despite all of these things, the place is truly lovely. It's set on beautiful property and the villas are pretty nice from what I saw of them. This place is huge, and I think maybe they don't get a chance to notice all these little things. If you're looking for a place to spend a weekend in a beautiful town and play golf, I think it'd be a great spot. read more

Went here with my girlfriend for the weekend. Was OK. See below for Good & Bad. Good: - Food served at breakfast, lunch, and dinner (with the exception of Sunday breakfast buffet) - Service at the Stone 21 restaurant - we had some great servers/bartenders and were very happy with the service - Chef at Stone 21 restaurant - we were given the option to choose food from the dinner menu after they stopped serving it and were very grateful - Location - nice spot in Haliburton looking out over a large pond - Spa - had a great couples' massage and it was very good - Cleanliness - very clean and the staff was great Bad: - No mini-fridges in rooms - Somewhat dated inside and limited choice in cable channels (analog tv - not much choice but we didn't really spend much time watching tv anyways) - Other than golf, not much to do onsite (girlfriend doesn't golf, so I was kind of stuck) - Noise isolation - could hear people in other rooms, the hallways, outdoors, etc... - Party environment was loud and we had a hard time getting sleep - there were tons of people on our floor who were up until 2 or 3 in the morning making tons of noise and partying. I've got nothing against partying, but for a place that tries to go for the 'relaxing' & 'family-oriented' vibe, it was loud and noisy. All in all, was a good weekend out of town but not thrilled. The people are nice, the food is good, the location is nice, but not quite what we were expecting re: the drunken partygoers. read more

We landed here for one night during a weekend motorcycle trip. It was recommended stop on "The Highland Loop" website. We were so tired - it was such a nice place to relax after 12 hours of riding! We arrived at 8pm and were informed that the Heatherstone Restaurant on site took last reservations at 9pm. The front desk staff were great - and booked the reservation for us while we went to our room for a quick rest. The room was awesome. We had a huge king size bed with super soft and fresh white linens and comforter. I'm usually weird about hotel blankets - but these were great! The pillows were huge and fluffy. I had one of the best night's sleeps! We had a balcony that overlooked the pond and the sunset. Two Adirondack chairs were a very nice touch. The room was huge - we had a dinette set, a couch, chair, and a little office nook. Plenty of space. The room was very clean. The overall cleanliness of the resort was good. It does show its age a little bit - but nothing that can't be overlooked! The Heatherstone Restaurant was amazing. Beef tenderloin and the prime rib was verrrryy delicious! The service was outstanding! Nancy was our server - and she was awesome. Check-out was easy and quick the next morning. Breakfast overlooking the golf coarse was very nice also! Woke up feeling refreshed and ready for another 12 hours of riding! :) Would definitely go back there if I'm in the area again! read more

If I had to describe this place in one word I would say average. The restaurant was recently updated but is still a little tired. Nothing on the menu really excited me or make my tummy growl. Don't get me wrong -- the food is good, just nothing to write home about. Although the food wasn't great, the service was. This place is fine in a pinch, but consider going elsewhere. read more

Very disappointing. Brought my staff & directors here about 10 years ago. It was beautiful. The rooms were really nice and the staff was great exceptional. The food was really good and we felt spoiled. I just went back for my 20th wedding anniversary and I was terribly disappointed. The decor was old and run down. The rooms were musty smelling. The washroom had wallpaper torn off. The room lighting was insufficient. Our air-conditioner kept making this rattling sound every time the compressor timed off - we then realized that it wasn't even working. There was no information in the room with hotel information or local phone numbers. So room service was not possible. On the positive side: bed and pillows were comfortable. It was 10min drive to Haliburton. Kitchen evening waitress was great. read more

Went there for a golf weekend and the golf course was beautiful. BUT I had the worst food I've ever had in my life at the restaurant. I should have known the service was bad when we sat down and the pregnant lady beside us said to her companion she had been waiting a half an hour for her Cesar salad. It took the waitress 20 mins to come over to ask for our orders and we had to ask after another ten minutes to bring us a glass of water. Then she came back to say she forgot to put in our wine order and forgot what we wanted. My husband ordered the roast beef buffet, which was dry and rubbery. After twenty minutes I had to ask someone else if I could get my escargot starter. Which then arrived immediately, obviously forgotten under a heat lamp by the waitress. I got so hungry I started to eat my husband's buffet cheese and crackers . Once my main course came, my halibut was so was over cooked. I couldn't even get it off the skin with a knife and fork, it was served in a pasta dish with the French fries under the vegetables and fish so they we're soggy. It had also obviously been forgotten under a heat lamp. They did comp the meal. Remember the prices are fine dining, $26-35 for entrees. For that I got terrible food and service in a room that had the decor of a poor college faculty cafeteria. In the morning the breakfast buffet consisted of powdered eggs, or a rubber frittata and cold bacon. For $14/person! Ugh. Unfortunately there are no good options in the area, so we were forced to try the resort pub the next night. While the service this time was much better, and the food did not taste of heat lamp, it was very mediocre at best. The building we stayed in was a cinder block dingy dark structure that has the vibe of a horror movie motel. I will say that the bed was comfortable, but I could barely see due to the lousy lighting. We checked a night early and ate the cost of our last night. I'd play the golf course again, but this place has a lot to learn about the hospitality industry. Avoid Pinestone Resort. read more

So far I am already disappointed, I just booked my reservation for next month. Normally, I get a discounted rate because I am a repeat customer. Today, I was informed that they no longer have this policy. Already my trip is starting on a sour note. We normally stay at this resort twice a year. Last year we arrived for our annual ATV trip, we booked a 2 Bedroom Villa. We were only allowed in our room around 6 pm, when their check-in time is 4 pm. We had to wait for 2 hours for our room to be cleaned. The staff offered no apologies or offered any compensation for our inconvenience. I am giving them a 2 star review at this time because they are no longer performing to the expectation I am accustomed to receiving at this resort. I truly hope this trip goes well. I will post another review after our next stay. We have had a lot of great experiences at this resort, I really hope that they will continue. read more

We just had our honeymoon here. The staff were all amazing people. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming that they instantly felt like old friends. I highly recommend the hiking trail! (bring good walking shoes!) and check out the enchanted forrest! (magical!) We stayed in a chalet which was just like having our own private cottage for the week! You can tell theyve been working hard to get the place updated and i cant wait to go back again when its complete! read more

My partner and I arrived for a short overnight stay last weekend. Facilities were clean, but felt dated and due for a refresh. Our room was a ground floor walk-out but It was prime bug season in Haliburton, so relaxing outside for long periods of time was not viable. We had to use a towel to cover the holes in the sliding door screen so we could at least enjoy some fresh air without mosquitoes coming in. Layout of the room was nice, in that it had a couch and chair where we had some wine (and a $7 bag of Doritos from the hotel gift shop) while we waited for our 8pm dinner reservation. As others have mentioned, there was no information available in the room detailing pool hours, nearby attractions, etc. The hostess at the restaurant was unable to offer us a table for dinner before 8pm, citing large parties arriving at 7 and 7:30. This is fine and sensible, but when we did arrive the restaurant was only partially full. Perhaps a party cancelled? If so, it would have been nice to receive a call, as they took our room number when we booked the table. The food was not wildly expensive, but offered little value for the price. Salmon was ok, though vegetable sides were cooked to limp. My partner's seafood pasta, touted as containing lobster, shrimp and scallops, contained no lobster, 2 shrimp, three quarter-sized scallops, and roughly 1 - 1 & 1/2 bell peppers cut in big chunks as though it were a veg & dip plate. We flagged this to the server who gestured and sighed in a way that had us thinking the kitchen had been playing this same joke on her all night and it had long ago stopped being funny. She did return a short while later with some more seafood (and a discount on the final bill), but that didn't do a great deal to offset an otherwise exceedingly basic dish. Given proximity to so many local craft brewers, is was disappointing that the resort has chosen to offer only international brands owned by foreign corporations. We did not golf or have time to use any extra facilities such as Spa, pool, etc. There was a nonchalant vibe among the staff, both at reception and in the restaurant, that came off as awkward indifference rather than rural charm. No fridges in the rooms. No microwaves. There was a chair in my room that was in need of a steam cleaning. The climate control is either hot or cold. The service at the restaurant, Stone 21, was terrible. The food was good. The service was the worst; absolutely terrible. I saw the server bring some other customers their food, but the waitress hadn't given them any cutlery nor serviettes. I ordered tea and the waitress didn't offer any sugar, milk, honey, lemon or anything; the normal things a decent server offers with tea. When I tried to ask for sugar, the waitress walked away. When I did get to ask for sugar, the waitress went off to do other things, then brought the sugar. When we asked for the bill, the waitress went off to do other things, then brought the bill. And she brought the bill but no pen to sign nor a credit card terminal, and she did not return so we could pay. We waited for her to return but she didn't. We had to call out to her to requst a pen as she walked past and away from our table. She said she would bring a pen, then she went to clean the bar and talk to people at the bar and did not return. We had to go to the bar and ask for a pen so we could sign the bill. read more
