I always stop into Pinewood on my road trips to and from Dallas even if it is an extra 25 miles out of the way depending on where I am going. Really like the location of this shop set away from the Baylor rush. They have a really fun outside area that I like to spend time in if I am on the phone or just meeting a friend. Staff is always super friendly and the bathrooms are always super clean. Parking is super easy because they have lots on both sides of the shop and a couple spots out front. I typically order a cup of drip ($3.50) and a cortado w alt milk for ($4+). I do have to say that their drip is a little pricey and I think I can say that considering I live in Austin. Coffee and service is definitely miles ahead of Common Grounds so I would recommend here if you are in the Waco area! read more

I practically live out of this place. The baristas are very friendly and polite. The music is hip as heck and features a favorable blend of old and new. On the side of the old, they play lots of folk troubadour artists, classic country singers, and psychedelic rock bands from the 60s and 70s. On the side of the new, gear up to enjoy some of the finest singer-songwriters our era has to offer. A good majority of this music, by the way, is played through a phonograph, allowing you to experience the same crisp audio quality that permeated teenage bedrooms in the middle of the 20th century. Two important additions have been recently made: an affiliated bar has opened up across the courtyard from the coffee shop, and a truck selling delicious BBQ, parked on the premises. I'm in from out of town to attend a wedding and I needed a cup of coffee in my life this morning. Pinewood Coffee Bar is pretty amazing. They've got classic rock jamming from vinyl, the seating inside and out is dope and relaxing, and the baristas are all lovely. When I arrived there was a long line, makes sense for how great the place appears from first glance, but the baristas took the orders quickly and made the orders just as quick. I was there for all about 10-15 minutes on a Saturday morning. The baristas were kind and attentive to everyone at every point of contact. The coffee is delicious! Though, as others have mentioned, the sizes are small compared to your corporate coffee trash but Pinewood is quality versus quantity. If you're looking for a big cup of crap coffee, make it at home, but if you want a delicious cup made by people who care then Pinewood is your spot. read more

My friends and I came here on a whim because a different coffeehouse we go to was closed. The drinks tasted pretty good, but the cups are really small for the price. My 8 oz vanilla latte (with an extra shot) was $5.50 (excluding tip). The ordering procedure was kind of messy. The staff was nice, but I had ordered 2 lattes but the cashier only put one. Had to go back and reorder. Half of our drinks came out quickly, but we waited a longer time for the other half of drinks. The friends that were missing drinks went and check in the drinks. Visited Waco for the Magnolia Market, needed some coffee the next morning before a 1.5 hour drive back to Austin. This place is on par with if not better than most local coffee shops in Austin. 1. Excellent coffee - I got the 6 oz espresso + milk, and it was so much smoother than what I've had in the past at that size. The latte art was a nice unexpected touch too! 2. Customer service - the two gentlemen working that morning were friendly, sweet, and recommended a great place for my mom and I to get breakfast 3. This place is great! I was immediately greeted by a friendly barista and he walked me through the pour over menu and answered all my questions. He went out of his way to ask me about my day and suggested a food truck to me which was pretty cool! He remembered my name when I came back to order which was a plus, excellent service. The coffee was excellent, I had a pour over and a cortado. The cortado was my favorite from what I tried there. It had a nice butter and plum taste to it. This guy is so cool that he recognized me at another restaurant in Waco and made his way over to speak to me. He called me by name too. (Who does that?) - I loved it. This place was the perfect place to start my day with a quiet morning of studying. I got the bottomless drip coffee-- endless refills, if you'll be sitting for a while. I've been a huge fan of Dylan and JD ever since they started roasting coffee out in McGregor. They're good guys. They're young. They're ambitious. They're humble. And they know what they're doing when it comes to coffee. Pinewood is pretty much everything I've ever wanted in a coffee shop. First of all the coffee is supreme. Great selections of consistently good coffee that they roast in a separate room across the courtyard from the coffee bar. Second of all, the atmosphere is perfect. There's a bar with people working, there are booths with couples on dates, there are bigger tables where people are studying, chairs where people are reading, a patio with shade. You always seem to run into an old friend at Pinewood, and you rarely go in without seeing someone you know. The baristas keep a great selection of vinyls spinning on a record player right behind the register. The details are all on point - the cups are high quality, the decor is minimal and really cool, the merch area is well maintained and displayed. Third of all, the service is unparalleled. In a world of snobby third wave coffee shops, Pinewood has broken the mold and shown us that it's possible to serve great, high-quality coffee, while also being nice / friendly / helpful / educational about it. I highly recommend that you ask the staff about coffee. You'll learn a ton. I am a huge coffee person and have learned a lot of valuable things from casual conversations with various baristas here. And it's not just that the baristas are 'nice'. I've never seen a barista walk the floor & ask people how their drinks were, or offer to take finished cups away before pinewood. Fourth, the price is right. I feel like I'm always getting a great deal at Pinewood, especially since the coffee is so good. Go here. Buy a bag of coffee (it comes with a free drip coffee). This spot clearly has a crowd that is here regularly. It feels almost like being in a social club that you don't belong to. The baristas were very friendly. I liked that they use real ceramic cups and they kindly deliver the coffee to your table. I give three stars because I just didn't like the flavor of the coffee. Delicious teas, we had Chai and Turmeric Latte that was just right. Outdoor chairs but no tables to place your cup so we opted for inside seating which was uncomfortable and not fully realized . Inside warm wood and creative lighting but not a soft seat in the house. Booths must have been home made as they forgot that not everyone wants sit in a perfect L but a sloping back and deeper seat. It has ample parking and, great strong WiFi, amazing baristas and great music! However, the place is getting a little beaten-up and if the owners are not careful, it will become too old too quick. The wall outlet doesn't work properly, three booth tables need extra support and tumble around, and all booth tables are missing a paint or stain coat and enamel. The windows could also use some floor cleaning. Though none of these things take away from the amazing atmosphere and just-perfect feel, they soon will. read more

I never, ever want to come back here. Went for Mother's Day before church and let's be real...the atmosphere rocks. Does not seem like it's trying too hard to be minimal/hipster whatever. It's just pretty cute and original, neat furniture. Fellow customers were so sweet! The barista though. I'm not one to try and call people out, especially as a cashier myself, but she was absolutely rude. I would lose my job if i acted like this toward a customer. My sister and I approached the counter and she didn't so much as crack a smile, say hi, good morning, or even ask what we wanted. We stood there and she just stared back. My sister finally started to order and she just tap-tap-tapped into the register and looked at me next. Very unhelpful, unwilling to answer questions. Then in the middle of our order just starts SINGING whatever was on the radio. Not humming or singing quietly while she listened, literally just singing over me. No direction on where cups, etc are (we're not from the area!) seriously the rudest encounter I've ever had. I am truly sorry if she was having that bad of a day ALREADY at 7:30 am lol. Pinewood might be my favorite Waco study spot! You can never go wrong with their lattes. I find the cold brew a little strong, but I'm still a novice coffee drinker. The baristas are friendly, the wifi is fast, and if the weather's nice they have plenty of outside seating.
