I decided to change my nail salon, and today I went to Pink Nails in Hamden, Connecticut, and I got a wonderful technician by the name of Lucy, she made me feel very very important, she gave me a hot pad for my neck because she says it was cold outside and it helped my neck tremendously, she did a beautiful job with my dip and told me all the right things that you need to do when removing old dip from your nails, I got a color called the Milky Way. It's a white sparkle and it looks absolutely beautiful on my nails, I do plan to return there in the next several weeks.. I highly recommend this place. Try it you won't be sorry. read more

I used to love this place. They were always friendly and did great work. However, they have increased their prices, but the quality of work has decreased. There is one person who takes her time and performs quality work. The woman owner did my manicure after the person who did my pedicure got up and left at 7pm when the shop was due to close. Noone told me she was leaving, I was literally just left sitting there. The woman owner tells me after about 10 minutes that she would do my manicure. The work for both the mani and pedi was terrible and sloppy, especially the mani. Unfortunately after all these years, I will not return. Take a look. read more

I love paying $105 for a terrible mani and pedi. First off, I have been there 2 other times before but this time I am done. They were okay at best the 1st 2 times. I asked for a mani and pedi and waited a few minutes for one of the 3 people to finish. Not a big deal. I got my toes done 1st like normal and she kept digging at my big toe nail acting like I had an ingrown nai, which I did not (cant wait to see what occurs once my nails grow out a bit...bet I'll have an ingrown nail in a few weeks). My toes look meh but its winter so not a big deal...hands though are another issue. I work with my hands so people constantly see my nails. You could tell they water down their polish becausebit took her over 6 coats for it not to be streaky and I asked for a small French tip which came out terribly uneven. To make things worse she painted my skin to my nail with gel top coat. I've been trying to peel away my skin from the nail but I'm going to have to wait till I can soak my hands in hot water to see if that helps at all. Its been a 2 full hours since they finished my toes I still have toe spreaders in between them and I go to take them out and the nail polish smears like it was just done...another sign they water down their polish. Now cleanliness wise they have never been amazingly clean but clean enough to go back...again it's not a day spa. But their cleanliness has gone down hill since my last visit. I put my hand in something sticky and black when getting a pedicure and the last thing that totally turned me off was watching one of the other girls mop the floor with dirty mop water that was sitting from earlier(saw the mop in bucket when I came in) in the corner and then sweeping over the wet area with their dirty broom... I really didnt want to tip but didnt think that was fair and I really am mad I even paid for these services. Now I hope and pray I dont get a fungal or bacterial infection. Guess I'll be driving back to milford for my monthly nails services. read more

It's Mother's Day weekend and I wanted to take my little girl for a fun spa day and they went and told us they couldn't see us even though I had made an appointment, because they had too many ppl ahead of me. Love this salon! I've lived in Hamden for about two years and started going here just to get my eyebrows done. I recently have been getting my nails done here and I'm in love. The staff is so sweet, and they take their time even when there are people waiting. At some nail salons, you can sense the technician rushing through to get to the next customer. Not here. Everyone is treated with respect and care. All manicures include a wonderful massage and- my favorite-hot stone massage! This was a surprise and I absolutely love it when I go. They have one of the widest selections of gel nail polish I've seen at any salon. They offer acrylic nails as well as the UV gel nails (I believe it is roughly $49 - $50 for a full set. A little pricey but absolutely worth it for the quality. The pedicures include those awesome massage chairs as well as a hot stone massage and paraffin wax treatment on your heels! The salon accepts credit cards but they definitely prefer cash, at least when tipping. I believe there is a small increase in price if you're paying with a card as opposed to cash. Fortunately there is an ATM in the salon ($2 charge to use). They have music playing and a flat screen TV (usually on the food network) so you'll be occupied while you get your nails done. Waxing is done meticulously and gently. The entire salon is clean, with newer amenities. All tools are openly sanitized prior to use. Love Pink Nails! I've been here a few times now and I'm pleased with the pedicures I get. A little more pricey than other places but everything has gone up.

I walked in for a mani-pedi hoping it wouldn't take long because I had a wedding to attend that same day. They paired me with the first girl available who kept walking away to help others and completely rushed through the scrubbing, filing, prepping portion of the pedicure and then proceeded to tell me it's because her client just showed up and I will have to wait for another girl to finish the actual paint job. In that moment in my mind I was thinking 'wait a minute, I'm literally sitting here as a paying customer..how am I not a client as well?" She was very cold and non-communicative outside of that the whole time, and was hurting me as she was clipping my nails because she was rushing. I started to feel racially profiled because she was very obviously friendly to other women there who she wasn't even working on. The other girl finally came to finish my pedi who at least had way better 'bedside manner'. I was then moved to the mani stations and even though everyone else was busy, no one communicated with me who and when they could come and start my manicure. Even though I waited patiently, I felt extremely invisible and not valued as a paying customer. Finally I gave up waiting because time was of the essence. I went to the front, and paid the shop manager just for the pedicure. It wasn't until then they actually acknowledged me and tried to communicate how much longer it would all take. I was there over an hour and was only serviced partially so at that point I was done. But guess what? I still left a good tip just out of principle as my way of saying..you just lost a good paying customer who would've been loyal, for life! read more

A great spot to have your finger nails done, your brows waxed or your pedis cured! :) The ladies were all friendly and welcoming and the salon is bright, inviting and clean. I had a manicure and pedicure that was quite relaxing. They massaged my arms and legs with a hot rock, it was not an extensive rub but it was very relaxing. There was no back massage as I have had at other nail salons but the manicure here was as good or better. I do not regularly get manicures or pedicures but I will return here for the next splurge. My Wife just went to this salon today and this is her review of Pink Nails. Service: As soon as I walk in, I was seated right away. My nail technician for my visit was Carmen. Carmen was very sweet and her english was pretty good. I notice that all of the workers except the owners/ management were hispanic. For today I got a basic pedicure. It consisted of a leg massage, hot rocks, wax heel treatment, and the other normal cuticle cutting, nail clipping, and use of a pumice stone to get rid of excess skin on the heels and all over my feet, and lastly, a polish of your choice! The basic pedicure process also include a 15 minute leg massage. The service was done in nice and full functioning massage chairs. The service was perfect! Variety: The selections of their polishes were pretty basic. They did not have a huge collection, it was more on the smaller side. They had a few generic brands but most of their polishes were OPI, they even had OPI Gel Colors. They also had some Essie regular polish, but no Essie Gel. The other option for Gel polishes was Daisy Gel. Atmosphere: The atmosphere was relaxing! There was only one tv on and it was muted with subtitles. In the background they played soft music. Everyone as really quiet even though there were quite a few people in there. The managers and all workers were very polite and professional. Cleanliness: I thought this place was really clean. Carmen opened a new pack of clean and sanitized tools to work on me. The massage chairs were clean and looked new. The Sink of my chair had a brand new plastic lining in it when I walked in. The only downside and one bad thing that grossed me out was the NAIL FILES. the cube ones, and even the standard stick ones were very worn out and falling apart! It was to the point that parts of the files were useless and soft. This really bothered me because everything else was so clean. I'm not sure if the files were Carmen's or the Pink Nails', but it was really dirty and I could see the residue of past clients nail dust on it!!! Other than the files, everything else was spot on. Prices: It is really weird that they don't post of the walls or have menus for customers to look at. I had no idea how much any cost. I had to ask them how much a pedicure would cost because I was in a dire need of one. This was also the reason why it deterred me from getting a manicure. Any way, the basic pedicure cost only $25. Which is a normal price for this part of Hamden. Towards the end of my service, Carmen asked me if I wanted to pay another $10 for a manicure and color change. I said no only because I was in a rush. But she told me that if you get a manicure pedicure combo, its $35, a basic pedicure is $25, but I don't know how much it would cost for a basic mani. I guess you would have to call and ask! Overall I had a great experience here. Another positive is that they are open on Sundays until 5:30pm. The only thing that made me take off one star was that disgusting deteriorated nail files used during my service. I'm sure that these things are less than $1.00 to replace!! In the winter, free paraffin dip on hands and heels for mani/pedi--yes please! If you're in the center of Hamden and your feet feel like sand paper in your boots and your hands look like pale dried prunes (keep it real- its winter time and you know you're dry) this place has the rejuvenation you need. It's conveniently located at the tail end of the plaza- so very few witnesses to see you going for maintenance. The staff is professional and the place is very clean. I saw liners in the pedicure tub that were changed after each person before cleaning the tub (score). Mani/pedi is $37 when paying with credit, $35 when paying cash. The service is well worth it--hot stones, paraffin, great colors...I could go on but just go for yourself. Note- you may want to call for an appointment. The second time I went the lady Mary, made 7 out of 10 of my fingers bleed! I have never had this happen before she was in such a rush she didn't even bother to slow down and watch what she was doing. She cut me with the file block, her own nail, and the cuticle cutters. She kept covering the blood and apologizing but continued to cut my fingers. When I was leaving she gave me an attitude because I wasn't going to tip more then $5. Very unprofessional! read more

The pedicures here are fantastic - if that's all you come in for, it's well worth it. They take their time and everyone gets the hot stone and wax-heel treatment, which are both lovely. I've had 2 or 3 consistently great pedis here. It is also pretty clean and comfortable, they have "frequent flyer" cards to earn free services and you're likely to receive a $5 gift certificate (for a future visit) if it's your first time there. The manicures, however, are a completely different story. I've had a few manis here, all of which have disappointed me greatly. It's such a shame! Whatever the brand of over/under coat they use is - well, it's terrible!! All my manis were chipping within 24 hours. Yes, the hot stone and hot towel are included, but despite that, all my manis have felt rushed and half ass*d. They'll spend 40 minutes on your toes, but 10 on your hands. It's over before it even begins! One of my good friends gets gel manicures here, and hers are always fantastic. Of course, that has more to do with the gel than anything else, but I have seen some hack-job gel manis before, and Pink does a pretty great job with them. In summary: Come here for pedicures or gel manicures. Go elsewhere for regular manicures, or be prepared for the nearly-immediate chipping! read more

Today I had a manicure and pedicure. She never used cleanser or scrub for my feet or legs like as if she forgot. She only put tons of oil and a tiny bit of lotion. I even told her she didn't scrub and asked her for a towel to wipe off all the oil and she looked co fused so I did it myself. She's an older Asian woman who sits on the end. She acted like I was bothering her... As far as the manicure the polish was old and she put a few drops of thinner in it and as she pained it came out clumpy. I actually had to pull my finger away and say NO. She would even look for another polish she made me find a similar one. Once again as if I was a bother... Then when others were getting massages I got absolutely nothing. She didn't even take the paper off my toes. In fact she got oil all over my expensive sandals. Second time I got her and she did it twice so it wasn't a mistake. Then she went to go talk on the phone. My experience was unprofessional and and unsanitary!!!! Two thumbs down read more

I went here once and will never go back again. I got a gel manicure and it peeled off my fingers the same day I got them. So I went back the next day to get them fixed and they still peeled off the following day. I paid over 30 dollars so I expect it to be good quality. I wish I took photos of how bad my nails looked after I went here, but unfortunately I didn't. They cut my nails so short and did not listen when I asked them for a specific shape. I would highly recommend people to not go here because it is a big waste of money. I should've been refunded for the poor quality service that I got. I have been going to Pink Nails for the last two years for manicures, pedicures, and eyebrow waxing. My experiences there have always been pleasant and the work has always been well-done - except for my experience last week. I brought a friend with me so we could each get a manicure and pedicure. I was helped by Mary. As Mary was removing the polish on my toes, I asked her if she could cut my toenails. She responded that she would file them. My toenails hadn't been cut in a few weeks and they had started to press against my shoes and hurt over the days leading up to my pedicure, so I told her that I would like her to cut them in addition to filing. She replied again that, no, she would file them. When she took out the file, I asked one last time if she could please cut them first and that I wanted them short. She let out an exasperated sigh and told me, no, she would not. At this point, I felt very uncomfortable and likely would have left, but I had brought a friend who was visiting from across the country and she was already well into her pedicure. So I just stopped making my requests and Mary did what she wanted to do. A couple minutes later, Mary turned to her co-worker who was working on my friend's pedicure and began to complain about the exchange that had just taken place between the two of us. She was speaking in Spanish and presumed I couldn't understand. I speak Spanish, however, and did understand what she was saying. She complained about how annoyed she was that I asked her several times to cut my nails after she had told me no. At a certain point, she seemed to pick up on the fact that I was understanding her and asked me if I spoke Spanish. I told her that I did, and she looked very worried. For the next half hour, all the way through my manicure, she continually asked me if I was ok and if anything was wrong. She tried to make polite conversation, but I was not interested in speaking with her. I paid what I owed and tipped Mary as well as I would have tipped her had her behavior not been completely out of line. But I will never go to Pink Nails again and have informed the friends I have referred there about this awful experience. I have never been told I cannot have my nails cut at any nail salon, Pink Nails included. But what was particularly upsetting was to have someone working on my nails while rudely talking about me to her co-worker. It was incredibly embarrassing and awkward for me to have to sit there and listen to it. And for what it's worth, my manicure was poorly done and not up to the level I've become used to at Pink Nails. I left with polish on my skin and it was chipping only hours later. read more

My nail technician was Sonia and she was amazing. She fixed my gel manicure I had gotten that I wasn't happy with. It's clean and they use pre packaged tools. I got a warm neck pad and am happy to say that they were ready for me for my 5:15 appointment even though they were very busy. I am obsessed with Pink Nails! I live in NYC and come home to visit my parents regularly and I can say that all of the services are above what I receiver on the Upper West Side in NYC. Jessie is an awesome staffer. I have gotten two spa pedicures and many manicures from her and she is the best. She is always thorough, polite, and nice to chat with (but okay if I just zone out or read). One time, the owner slipped me a $10 gift card as a "thank you for waiting." The staff at Pink Nails is very welcoming. I've been there twice without an appointment. It took about 10 minutes for them to start my pedicure. My nails were cut evenly and they were given a clear coat and 2 coats of polish. The foot bath and massage with hot rocks felt very good. They wrapped my heels with plastic wrap containing paraffin, which made them feel soft. They have a flat screen TV to watch and plenty of magazines to choose from.
