The crepes were delicious as they usually are here, but the sweets were ok with the exception of the scone being fantastic. There were a lot of great tea options but they did run out of the mango green tea one. I understand it was the first time they were doing something like this, but it's very misleading to charge customers extra because you serve a double serving on a tray and saying you can't do a single one. If you are advertising $55 a person, it should be that regardless of your partying being an odd number. It is very unfair to force people to pay an additional amount when there is space to do a single serving. This also makes the single person very uncomfortable, like a person who isn't a mother, but maybe an aunt or friend. What if you lost your mother and you wanted to have tea by yourself, you have to pay $110?! I think our waitress also misspoke when she explained the thing that we would be charged per person and then later telling us that we had to pay for the two servings because they couldn't split them. To me even if you couldn't split the tray, it seems like the thing to do on Mother's Day is to give the other setting free. It's soured my experience.

I was looking for places to check out on my recent Holland adventure and this place intrigued me…read more.. because it's a bakery/cafe that has chicken tenders....!! I LOVE chicken tenders. I drove up and loved the spacious parking lot. Walking in, the bakery was well lit and clean, and a bit overwhelming. They had so many kinds of baked goods, including some Dutch specialties like banket. (I honestly have no idea what that is but I know it's a Dutch pastry.) You can order 2, 3, 5, or 12 tenders at a time, and you can get them as a combo (with fries and a drink) or just by themselves. I opted for two tenders, one plain and one with original dry rub which is kind of like a ranch flavor. I also ordered a Diet Coke. The food didn't take too long to come out, and the tenders were hefty and super crispy. I liked the dry rub, but I think I'd just go with plain next time because they have the most delicious honey mustard. The Diet Coke was also super crispy and this was such a nice snack. They also have a menu of breakfast options like egg sandwiches, bagels, avocado toast, etc. The lunch menu is rounded out with salads, sandwiches, and mac and cheese. If I lived nearby I think I'd be a regular here!

I highly recommend this bakery!

First off, I have to give a shoutout to the owner--he was incredibly friendly and even let my girlfriend sample some fudge. The store had an endless variety of both new and old-school candies to choose from. They even had this really cool jelly bean machine with a wide assortment of flavors to bag up. Before leaving, I made sure to grab some treats to share with my family too! I can't wait to come back in the summer to see what new goodies they'll have.

Or...perhaps even for the days when you are? Maybe it's ice cream in town and candy back at the vacation rental. Sweet Haven ticks all the boxes: various small candy in bulk; taffy in bulk; old-fashioned packaged candy; higher-end chocolates; Jelly Bellys; and of course FUDGE. It's a dangerous and delightful place. I'm not sure about the prices. This stuff *seems* expensive, but since you don't buy an armload of candy very often (do you??), it's hard to tell. So just go ahead and treat yourself (and your kids I guess, but mostly you, because sugar is bad for kids) and see whether you can make it last beyond the journey home at the end of the trip.

Today, was a cloudy and cold Wednesday mid morning. The place was busy, but no long wait times. The food is always good. Everything I've ever eaten on the menu is good... but I have a special affinity for pig 'n the blankets, banket, and any Mexican inspired breakfast item in the menu. Today I had the chorizo Benny. It was fabulous and worth the $15 imo. Our waiter, Pedro, was the best! He's worked there for over a decade and knows the family that runs this restaurant--- 3 Dutch brothers--- he gave me a run down on the lore and all the pictures are of their family photos hanging around the restaurant. I think that's pretty cool. They will be opening and expanding into a new restaurant location on the corner of River and Lakewood Blvd sometime in the near future. That location will have more of a "hipster" vibe with breakfast cocktails, etc. Check them out when you want... but if you don't want to wait come during off peak hours and off season times. Make sure to peruse their bakery for some goodies to take home. Salud.
