Stopped at the Zeeland Bakery for the first time immediately noticed that this is a local town favorite. The flow of customers was constant. Nothing great or spectacular about the place, but their donuts are so good. The donuts are slightly different from what my husband and I are accustomed to. The place is a bit cramped, only has a few small tables, and the line of customers could easily be out the door at times. The counter was staffed by three teenagers or young adults. The donut selection was small but enough to please the young and old. We're new in the area so we thought we'd give it a try and ordered 4 donuts for $8 -- glazed, chocolate cinnamon, chocolate creme, and sugar twist. They were all delicious! They do not offer a half dozen special but mentioned that they do have a dozen special. I forgot to ask what that special was. Next time. read more

I liked the chocolate donut with holland cream, the bavarian cream long john, the sausage roll, and the Dutch cookie. I liked the raspberry bismark donut and filling but can do without the bland, white frosting. Same for the cherry pie squares. I pulled off the top of it. I did not like the apple one at all, bland, mushy filling, and that white frosting. I would still stop in to try some other things. Staff was friendly. read more

After not likely them about a year ago. We decided to give them another try and I think they got worse. The donuts (tried a maple covered cinnamon donut, a white sprinkle cake donut, a glazed old fashioned) the donuts all had no flavor and were wet and tasted of just oil. Almost like they are cooked at too low of an oil heat so they just absorb and hold the oil in. We also tried their pigs which they keep advertising as the best pigs in the area. They have a flaky crust which was ok, the sausage held no flavor and was dry. Definitely not close to the best anywhere. Sad to say we will not be returning and miss the quality that the name used to hold. We do not recommend. read more

I am a Grand Rapids nurse, and I try a lot of donuts from a lot of surrounding areas. Patients and patient family members love to thank us with baked goods :):):) Yesterday someone brought us donuts from Zeeland Bakery and they slapped! I ate three and I am a bit of a health nut. I try not to eat too many sweets, but I couldn't help myself with these. I had a sour cream cake donut, a cinnamon and sugar twist, and a long john type donut with vanilla frosting and lemon filling. I aways loved to go here for my sweet tooth satisfaction but since it was soled not the food is dry bland and unfit to eat. Here's why before I could eat 4 of the declares in a row and still I wanted more the cookies zI would eat 6 of the xlg monster cookies and had to pull myself away from them. I ordered 2 declares and 2 monster cookies for lunch on Thursday July 17th. What I got was the monster cookies had no flavor and no sugar added to the mix. The declares 1/2of the pudding was gone out of th so you didn't taste to which made them dry the flaky crust was changed to the tost of a pie crust with no flavor and hard. I eat 1/2 of the declares and cookies and tossed 1 1/2cookies and 1/2 declares away. I now see why it is getting a lot of bad reviews. I would like to go back k and try the donuts but do.t know if I really should.. read more

Today I had an appointment in Zeeland. I wanted to stop off at Zeeland Bakery because I heard so many good things about this place. I was not disappointed. I was able to try a birds nest with sprinkles and whipped cream. It was also filled with a cream. It was delicious! I also tried a classic doughnut with chocolate frosting. My 14 year old son said it was the best chocolate doughnut he has ever had. I was so pleased with the nice lady that I met today. She made me feel welcomed and really brightened my day! The chocolate covered frosted long johns with custard (Bavarian Cream) are really something else. They are the best I have tasted in a really long time. I also really enjoy the chocolate cupcake. Along with the chocolate covered sprinkles cake doughnut. Moist and great flavor. I usually buy these like three times a month, anymore and I'll be in trouble. Tip: make sure you bring cash for any thing under $5.00. read more

Wow! So disappointed! We have been to this bakery many times over the last 42 years and yesterday was our last time. We got Cream curls and pigs in the blanket both were not fit to eat. The cream curl shell was wet and cream was stale. The pigs was stodgy and tasteless read more

The selection was a little down maybe because we arrived at 1130ish or maybe covid. Donuts tasted pretty good especially after a long bike ride. Donut was 1.15 each for the sprinkles. Nice bench outside to sit and nice area to walk down. read more

We stopped for a donut and found them to be bland and dry. The cookies were also not super appetizing as everything is pretty much one color and crumbly. As we ate, we noticed the mold on the window sill and dead bugs. We will not return. read more

Poor customer service. Poor selection. Very stuck in their ways. It's like they feel that they are the customer and you need to give them good customer service. One of the least friendly places in Zeeland. Never a "good morning" never a "hello", just frowning faces, stubbornness and an unwillingness to help. The donuts are mediocre, the cake frosting is too sugary. I'm sure that this place would go out of business if DeBoers Dutch Bris Bakery opened a Zeeland location. read more

Ordered donuts for my 4th grade daughter's class for her birthday. Called on Wednesday for a Friday pickup. They called me Thursday to ask why I hadn't picked up the donuts. I explained that I told the person on the phone it was for Friday. When I picked up the donuts on Friday, they were the same ones they made for Thursday. Donuts were hard and unappealing! They inferred it was my fault and that I did not tell them Friday. I told them Friday more than once. Won't be going back for an order and service like that! read more

I had to order my sister's cake over the phone since we were all meeting in Holland to celebrate her birthday. The lady on the phone was very helpful, and I ordered a simple vanilla cake with raspberry filling. She also offered to do a fall decoration, which I thought would be a great idea. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was disappointed to see that it looked almost like I could have bought it at the Meijer or chain grocery store. The fall decoration consisted of the orange flowers, which I really don't like. I was hoping for something more creative, but it was pretty standard. There were a couple of young girls working there, and one of them had a little trouble finding my cake. I panicked slightly, but she did find it. My sister seemed to think it was okay and better than Marcia's Creations. It was realitively cheap, so I can't complain too much. It was only $13. Great longstanding staple in downtown Z! Long johns are great and it's really just a good old fashioned bakery with great customer service.

I think Zeeland bakery cakes are the best. They taste marvelous, they are beautifully decorated, and the price is right. I've chosen traditional rose topped cakes, but they also make very creative cakes. One of my favorites was when they turned the top of a round cake into a large daisy. When I was young, my mom brought in birthday party napkins and they made the cake to match. They are very willing to work with you to make sure you get what you want. If you don't want cake, they also sell the best pastries around, all at very reasonable prices. read more

I went to Zeeland Bakery to order a cake on a Friday at noon. The employees were sitting behind the counter eating their lunch. I was told the only cake available was an 8" round cake for the next day. My husband and I had coffee, I had a dry bran muffin and he had a roll. While sitting there another customer came in and wanted to order 3-5 dozen cookies without coconut. She was told that they wouldn't make them. The girl then told me that they had one other cake available for Saturday so I took it. The cake was a marble cake with filling. The cake was dry, tasteless, and had a ton of waxy tasteless frosting on it. It could very well have been the worst cakes that I've ever eaten. The cake was for my mother's 80th birthday. I apologized to my mother for the cake being so horrible. I should have known not to get a cake at Zeeland bakery because I had a similar cake for my son's birthday years ago. Zeeland Bakery needs better customer service and better products. Next time I'm just going to go to a store like Family Fare or Meijer to get a cake. read more
