I completely agree with Michael about the hike! It is a great afternoon activity with nice views of the surrounding area. There are two choices on ways to traverse the mountain: A) The hard trail - which I haven't had the pleasure to go up but made it a point to scramble down that way! Probably my favorite thing about this side of the mountain is that you see people carrying their small children and dogs, which in my opinion, is asking for disaster. My hat is off to them for their coordination and daring. B) The "easy" trail. That is misnomer. Moderate, like Michael mentioned, would be correct. I don't know about other people, but when I think easy, I think of a gently climbing slope that switchbacks up the mountain to the top. Not the case. The push to the summit is a series of rock "stairs" that fortunately have natural points where you can stop and take a breather if needed. Either way, this hike is great and I will definitely be taking some of my out of town visitors out here to check out some of the local natural beauty that is around Little Rock. read more

My favorite park in the Little Rock area. Climbing the mountain is a challenge and I've done it from both the East and West summit trails. The view is totally worth the effort! My personal favorite hike is the Rocky Valley trail from the visitors center, continue on the East Quarry trail which leads to a beautiful overlook of the Arkansas river. If you're not trying to get too exhausted, the Arboretum has a nice paved trail. The picnic area in front has a beautiful view of Pinnacle Mountain. read more

I was feeling really good about myself when I got to the top of Pinnacle Mountain until I saw children up there as well. I don't really hike nor do I rock climb. I took the East route, which is supposed to be harder. I cannot describe the other route, but the East side starts of pretty easy, then there's a wall- of big boulders and rocks. I was definitely on all fours a good portion of the hike up and down the wall. Going up took about 40 minutes, and down took about an hour for me since it was a little bit scary. I also saw some pretty interesting insects (HUGE black centipede with neon orange legs!) so I stopped for those. As other reviews have mentioned, it was surprising to see people CARRY their children. That seemed pretty dangerous. Also, please do not write on the rocks! read more

I grew up climbing Pinnacle. Haven't done it in over 30 years until last week. I was in the area with time to kill and thought Why Not! The round trip took 2 hours, it was 41 degrees but so worth it. The view from the top is fantastic. Climbing the boulder field was bit strenuous. Legs were sore for a couple of days, but I'm glad I did it. read more

What a gorgeous park with amazing views everywhere. You can ride a horse, steer a paddle boat or hike to the top of the mountain if you're so inclined. There are also good exhibits to tour around in the visitor's center if you need a little AC. read more

The reviews are very true regarding the difficulty of the west side climb. I can only imagine the more difficult eastern summit. It gets steeper towards the top with more rocks and boulders. Definitely take a small bottle if water especially on a hot day. Once you reach the top, it's all worth it - the view and the cool air make all the pain go away. The drive to the park itself is so beautiful, lush green and pretty. Parking is a bit difficult to secure especially on weekends, so earlier the better. read more

We spent the day here. Started at the Visitors Center, which is very nice. Some very beautiful views from the overlook here at the visitors center. After spending a few hours climbing and exploring the area around the visitors center, we decided to hike up the mountain. We were very excited to get to the top and see the view. Unfortunately, we started on what was later referred to us as the "rough side". After a couple of hours of wondering around this very rugged terrain,the trail markers are VERY hard to spot, we decided to call it a day. Never made it to the summit. We are both over the age of retirement and while a grueling hike is great on occasion,being lost and wondering aimlessly around on a steep and rocky terrain is not great. We will probably go back this Fall and try again. I would suggest for any older adults, make sure of your trail path BEFORE adventuring on this mountain. read more

I enjoyed several hours at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. I hiked to the summit up the East Trail, the more difficult side, which is about 1.5 miles with 700 feet of elevation gain. The East trail is primarily a rock slide, with little shade in stretches. The trail is well marked. I broke a sweat, but primarily due to heat. It was not a difficult climb, however those that are not used to hiking will be challenged. I descended down the West Trail, which is primarily a well groomed and heavily traveled trail. The views from Pinnacle are excellent, all the way to Downtown Little Rock 16 miles away on a clear day, as well as excellent views over Lake Maumelle, the Arkansas River, and surrounding area. Although I did not have sufficient time to explore other areas of the Park, the Nature Center is worth the stop, and the 1930s area picnic structures are treasures. I would highly recommend those that enjoy the outdoors, active activities, and authentic experiences to spend half a day or more at Pinnacle Mountain. read more

Great place for a day-trip! My wife and I decided to go hiking at Pinnacle Mountain January of last year. I can honestly say that the staff we met at the visitor center was the friendliest and most welcoming out of any of the state parks we have been. The hike to the peak was not too difficult, and there were nice areas to stop along the way if you need to take a break. Once you reach the summit, there are some great views of the surrounding countryside and nearby Little Rock. There is some interesting wildlife to be found in the area as well. Definitely worth a visit! read more

The mountain is gorgeous!! I was so proud of myself when I made it to the top. Even though kids seemed to be able to do it just fine, and people were running up and down. It was my first big hike though so I was still happy. We took the west trail up and it starts out not to bad just walking and having to watch the ground so you don't miss step. Then it gets a little worse when you see these small boulders and then when you realize you have to go over them to keep going it gets a tad scary but they really aren't too bad. As you get close to the top it is very vertical and that part is harder and I may have crawled part of it but the top is so worth the crawling! read more

Had lots of fun hiking this mountain with a few friends! We went through the East Summit trail on a weekday. The parking was super easy to find, with lots of spots open and a portal potty just in case. The East trail is marked by a red box with white paint in the middle of it. So if you see that symbol, it means you are on the right path. And I just want to let you know that you WILL have to use your hands to get up, but the hard work and minor scratches I got were definitely worth the beautiful view. I would 100% go back and try the other trails at Pinnacle Mountain!! read more

I went to climb the west summit trail. It was a challenge to find if you enter the park from the east and there were limited signs inside the park to show me the way to go. I had to deduce it from my GPS map and common sense. The trail itself was well maintained and the parking lot/play area/picnic spot looked clean. I'm in pretty good shape, and I was winded about halfway up the mountain. It's mainly rocks at about that point too. I was told the east summit trail is even more rocky. There are a few benches on the way up. There's not much space at the top. But the views are stunning. It took me just about an hour, and that's with about 15 minutes spent at the top to take photos. BI'm not much of a hiker, so if you think you're reasonable fit, climb it. The views are worth it. read more

I would like to add that there are more choices in trails connected to Pinnacle. One is new (it''s not their website yet): a wonderful rolling trail that circles the base of the mountain through the woods. It also connects to the Ouachita Trail, which goes all the way to Oklahoma! And there is another easy paved trail that circles around from the parking lot to the Little Maumelle River and back. read more

Great view! It was shocking to me that just a few minutes before we were downtown. The location is great. Me and the mister wanted to go kayaking. They do rent kayaks but they had an event that weekend, so they weren't renting anything out. I'm seeing other yelpers mention that this park has good hiking options- i didn't stay that long and just stopped by to ask about kayaking in an impromptu manner-you can also just walk up some stairs to get a great view. I will visit this park again. read more

Great place to spend a day when you are in the Little Rock area. Lots of trails to hike for a variety of skill levels. We chose a short one because we had a limited amount of time to spend in the park. It was lovely. Beautiful trees and mountain springs. I would love to go back and try one of the more advanced trails. read more

I live about a mile from this mountain/park (I can actually see it from my backyard!) and we LOVE everything about it! The trails are varied for any interest (from bird watcher, novice hiker, to more intense), the views are beautiful, the entire park is family friendly (great picnic areas, the playground was recently updated and my three children beg to go all the time), and the park rangers routinely host mini classes for children and adults. Well worth a trip! Just a note: weekdays are relatively quiet, but the park is PACKED on weekends. If you want to hike or play in peace, go first thing in the morning on a weekday! read more

This is a great afternoon hike. Make sure to bring a bottle of water with you and a good attitude. It is just under a mile to the summit but it is quite a climb. Wear good shoes and bring a snack for the top. Could be a fun date. read more

We love this park, the summit of Pinnacle is beautifull and both the East and West Summit trails are vety challenging, but the fun doesnt end there, the Rocky Valley trail and the View from the East Quarry is arguably even better. Just bring plenty of water and prepair for an exhausting but fulfilling day. read more

Wonderful atmosphere, my friends and I hike it every chance we get. A great place to get away from the city crowds of LIttle Rock. I much prefer the easy side, however, if your in the mood for a workout then the hard side will do the trick. The easy side is more of a gradual incline, but the hard side is more of a steep climb. read more

Great place to hike near Little Rock. When the weather is nice, parking can be a pain to find but there is overflow parking on the other side of the street if you are parking at the West Summit area. There have been some renovations on the West Summit restrooms and playgrounds. If you have the time, check out Petit Jean State Park (approx. one hour from Little Rock) instead. read more

OMG. So close to the city. Hiked all trails. Not a professional, rather, a moderately in shape being. The hard summit trail is the one that is STEEP and you have may to resort to being a mountain goat or before reaching top, rest occasionally. If you are scared of heights, this trail is at first unassuming and before you know it you are almost diagonal. (Not including young bucks who are professionals). I did it in the fall and summer. I don't understand how a trail can be hiked in "45 minutes." IF YOU are NOT IN SHAPE, I STRONGLY ADVISE NOT TO HIKE THE DIFFICULT SUMMIT SIDE. otherwise take lots of WATER. Base Trail has some rocky spots. Other summit is moderate. 'EastTtrail is nice and quiet, kind of steep at top --about 1/10 of mile. Ouachaita Trail ( a national trail) begins in park. Outside the park, it is EXTREMELY dangerous to follow this trail along the highway. Cars travel about 45-50miles an hour and view pedestrians as walking trees. I still have yet to find outside the park and beyond, where the Ouchaita Trail picks up. KEEP YOUR DOGS ON A LEASH. The whole human race does not have a love affair with your pet. Good bathroom and picnic facilities. read more
