BEEP! Must Destroy Humanity- but where is the train? 404 Train Error…read more This giant, Texas-sized robot seems to be lounging around, idly waiting for a train. Usually robots are so- unrelaxed, but this one is chillin'. It's appropriate for Deep Ellum, where everything has a relaxed, laid back vibe. There's a few of these robots around the Deep Ellum area, they're all huge, polished steel, and whimsical! The robots are along the DART line, so they're cool spots to take in the art. I always appreciate local, large scale public art! Way to go Dallas for getting these installed.

At this corner, you can see The Traveling Man kicked back on a bench with a mandolin/banjo in his hands surrounded by his sweet bird friends. Art like this makes our cities come alive--I'm so happy to have something like this in Dallas! It was a great spot to add to our scooter tour of Deep Ellum with out-of-state guests!

The longhorns that run through Pioneer Plaza! For murals, the best spot is Deep Ellum. If you're a fan of graffiti art, there's huge spray painted murals. Some are guerrilla, done by artistic locals while keeping an eye out for 5-0. Others are done by local bars, and promote something cool. The Deep Ellum robots are a cool site to behold. Dallas certainly has a vibe to it, which is helped by the public arts scene. Three cheers to landlords who allow the sides of their warehouses to be used as a canvas for the local arts community. I suppose one could say that the best place to check out Dallas Arts is the Dallas Museum of Arts. While it does have a magnificent portfolio of famous artists, the real arts scene is on the streets where everyone can take in the art, and the locals participate.

This stunning stone sculpture stands on Harwood Street in front of another of the downtown Dallas…read moresteel and glass towers. The organic shape is a welcome change. It is a large piece of art and almost beckons to climb on it. But don't! The stone plaque at the base reads, "This sculpture titled 'Bear Mountain Red - A Texas Landscape', after the quarry that it came from in Fredericksburg Texas, is a merger of the human character with organic abstraction. The piece was carved by Alice Maynadier Bateman from a 12 1/2 ton block quarried especially for the Diamond Shamrock Building. The sculpture was blocked out in the artist's Fort Worth studio and complete on this site September 18, 1982." It continues, "We are creative only when we imagine most vividly, when we hope most profoundly, when we have the courage to live on the edge of our possibilities." The Diamond Shamrock company had moved from Cleveland to here in Dallas but is no longer, having been acquired by Valero Energy, which is based in San Antonio. We were fortunate there was no cloud cover! You could see for miles from the Ball's point of view at 470 feet up. The Reunion Tower itself is a 561 ft observation tower in Dallas, and one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. We spent about 30 min checking out the views and eventually made our way back down the elevator. Overall, it was a nice experience! But for the price we paid, I did expect a bit more! Side note: Remember to download your free group picture at the kiosk before you leave!

I always try to visit an observation tower when I visit a different state. So I had to visit the…read moreReunion Tower whilst in Dallas. The Tower looked like a lollipop and was only 20 mins walk from our hotel. At one point we found ourselves on the train tracks and could see the Tower but couldn't quite see how to get there as there was no signage or directions. Eventually, we had to walk around and go under a bridge to get to the other side and walked towards the Tower. Even the entrance had no signage. It did have the name of the restaurant Crown Block and also Hyatt Hotel but nothing about the Tower. Anyway, we walked in and went downstairs. Tickets were $19 and can be bought from the kiosks. As we walked to the line, you get to have your photo taken with a green screen. There are props you can use on the right counter if needed. In the elevator you can see outside as you are going up. I just wished the glass was facing the city instead of Trinity river and the two Margaret sister bridges. You can see all the freeways overlapping like spaghetti. At the top, there is a little area with a few tables and chairs. I guess you can bring a lunch or snack whilst enjoying the views. The restrooms are really clean up there. Outside, there are telescopes available and info about the skyline. However, it was awfully windy and cold in January. The staff were really friendly and helpful with any questions you have. We found out the photos taken earlier, could be viewed at the kiosks by scanning the barcode on your ticket. They email the photos to you for free or you can buy a physical copy from them. Overall, it was a nice visit. Have to say, there were hardly any people around. I guess it was off peak tourist season, so it was nice not having the crowds and long lines.
