So we have had our eyes on this property for a long time and finally took the plunge with a 6 night stay through the Labor Day weekend this year. For reference, we stayed in Red Fox which is a historical cabin built in 1939. It was advertised as a separate bed room cabin great for a couple or a small family with a fully equipped kitchen. We picked it over some of the other properties since we preferred the separate bedroom format with our 3 year old who does best when he is in his own room (for sleeping), plus we were worried about the lofted cabins due to concerns with him potentially falling. I'll start by saying that the location and the overall property is fantastic. Great location with immediate access to outdoor activities and really gives you the feeling of being away from things (down a 2 mile dirt road from South Crested Butte). The cabin itself was lacking in my opinion however and maybe our expectations were just too high. First up, it was really small. Like crash into the wall and door frame small. I'm 6'1" and 190 pounds and could barely clear the door frame into the bathroom without hitting my head on it. I couldn't sit on the toilet properly since I didn't have enough room for my legs and could barely fit in the shower. The queen bed in the bedroom can only be entered from one side requiring you to literally climb over the other person if you have to get up in the middle of the night for any reason. The kitchen also was a source of frustration for us as it did not include a microwave. We had promised our 3 year old that we'd be able to make popcorn (something he loves) and could not during the stay. Maybe I was presumptuous to assume a fully equipped kitchen included a microwave, but oh well, it is what it is. Also be aware that your phone will almost certainly not work here and the wifi internet is extremely slow. I know this is a minor quibble, but for those of us who do need to stay somewhat connected for business, etc. this can be a bit of a problem also. I'd maybe give Pioneer another chance down the road if we stay in the Crested Butte area again, but definitely not in Red Fox. Maybe we've just been spoiled by more "modern" cabins, but you should know what you're getting into before booking this one. read more

i had such an amazing time staying in the wild rose cabin. it was clean and heated by fire place. there were two beds and one tucked up into a loft. the cabin had its own seating area and fire pit. we enjoyed the hot tub at night with an amazing view of the stars. it was a 15 min drive to crested butte town. read more

The Pioneer Guest Cabins were exactly what I was looking for, an escape from the daily meat grinder most of our lives seem to be these days. The cabins are cozy, built not too close together, and most are near the creek. Each cabin comes with: a fire pit, a couple of heavy wooden chairs positioned next to the fire pit, a charcoal grill, and a hammock. In our case we were lucky to have our hammock positioned just a few feet from the creek. Rocking back and forth in the shaded hammock while listening to the creek roar past is one of the more soothing ways to pass the time. The kitchen comes with all the necessary equipment, so we saved some cash by packing everything we needed to prepare our meals at the cabin, with one being a couple steaks on the provided grill. The pots and pans were all in good shape, many seemingly right out of a box. One note though, you do need to bring some charcoal if you want to use the grill - or use the half bag we left behind. The beds were better than any other cabin I've stayed in, they were very comfy. There is a wood burning stove as well as a gas stove that is tied into a thermostat. No TV, Wi-Fi, or phone in the cabin. And strangely enough no where near as much stress! There are tons of great hiking trails near the cabins, as well as some cool four wheel drive trails going up to various passes leading north to Aspen. We hit some snow so we couldn't go as far as we wanted to go but still saw some of the most insanely beautiful scenery out there. Lots of spots to fish, if you like tying a fly. There are motocross and ATV trails in the area as well, so plenty of activities for anyone looking to get out and about. We went in late May so we were able to take Cottonwood Pass out of Buena Vista, then up and over to Taylor Park Reservoir. It is a really pretty drive and if the pass is open I strongly suggest you take it. I can't wait to get back down for another visit, only this time will be at least 3 nights! read more

I have stayed at Pioneer Guest Cabins twice before and have had a wonderful experience. I also have friends and family who have stayed many times and enjoyed it very much. However, I recently booked a third stay via their website. I booked two nights without issue. Hours later, the owners contacted me to say that there was a three-night minimum for that time period, despite the fact that I had already received an email confirmation for my stay. Based on that confirmation, I booked other hotels and a rental car for the road trip I would be taking to Crested Butte. I informed them of this, and of how much I would incur in additional costs due to their website's "error," and they refused to change their policy, which was retroactive given that nowhere on their website, on which I booked my reservation, was a three-night minimum stated. I received a cold and curt "apology" and a cancellation of my stay, around which I had booked my entire trip. TL;DR: Great cabins and scenery, poor customer service. read more

These cabins are perfect for our family reunion. Rustic, quaint, solitude, amazing sounds of cement creek right out the front door. The owners are very nice and helpful with hiking trails and things to do in town. We highly recommend ! read more

3 C's - Clean, Comfortable and cozy. If your looking for room service and hot stone therapy this isn't your place. If your looking for a quiet rustic cabin in a beautiful place this it. It's location is a little off the beaten path in the Cement Creek drainage. The cabins have all the basics, are quite clean and the beds were very comfortable with wood stoves and no tvs. The location is perfect with plenty of great hikes right out the door. Great little place from an owner who actually 'gets it". What I mean by that is the cabin experience: rustic, but not roughing it, great girlfriend getaway and a couple miles off the highway while still only being less than 15 mins to town. Matt the owner really went out of his way for my girl and I, and I am very thankful. We rented the Alpenglow cabin and it was great - with a wood burning stove AND a gas fireplace/stove. The beds and pillows were really outstanding (comfortable and supportive) compared to the dozens of other places we've stayed including in the land of pretension (Napa Valley, CA). I would highly suggest you stay here if you are going to be anywhere near Crested Butte. read more

The Pioneer Guest Cabins are the perfect getaway! We stayed in the Red Fox Cabin, rather tiny, less than 500 sq ft, 2 bedroom, 1 bath, petite kitchen/dining room/living room combo! Lovingly decorated and spotlessly clean! Allows well behaved pets which was a plus for our dog! Already planning our return visit and plan to stay in either the Wild Rose or Sunshine! Easily accessible to some beautiful hikes! Wi-Fi not available in all cabins, so ask?l We were there in the Fall and enjoyed some spectacular colors! Book early!
