The community set up was nice. The have DVDs you can watch. Free coffee in the mornings outside comin areas are nice and spacious. Staff and owners are attentive and very creative. They assisted me in helping accommodate my 7 month old Austrailian Shepard, which made for the best hiking trip we ever had. Easy access to the free shuttle bus up to Crested Butte. This hostel is THE BEST. I had to get off the Colorado Trail unexpectedly due to an injury and spent 3 nights here in late August 2021. The common area is really nice and cozy - couches, Netflix, books, etc - the bunkrooms & bathrooms are immaculately clean, and the prices are sooooo reasonable. After two nights in the bunkroom, I switched to the private room (once it became available), which was definitely worth it. The vibe during my staff was kind of "do your own thing", which was perfect. The outside areas were exactly what I needed - a ton of grass, some hammocks, etc. Location is great for Gunnison. We spent the few days walking around town, using computers at the local library, getting snacks at the supermarket, eating breakfast and dinner at local restaurants. Super walkable location. Very quiet and safe. Would 1000000000% recommend to anyone in the area! read more

When traveling abroad, hostels and guesthouses are my go-to choices for lodging. They're usually cheap, lively, full of amenities, and give you the opportunity to meet people you typically wouldn't if you were staying in a regular hotel. Traveling in the U.S. is a bit different and I've never had the opportunity to stay at a hostel until now. Wanderlust is an unexpected gem for a city like Gunnison. The location is very close to the one block of Main St. that actually has something to do. The interior makes you feel like you're right at home. The cat can be pretty grumpy and show his fangs at you from time to time, but he's essentially harmless. Free tea and coffee, full kitchen, BBQ, a closet full of movies and plenty of couch space with a warm fireplace to just chill out. The rooms range from privates to dorms with bunk beds. We decided to go for the latter. The beds aren't 5 star hotel style, but they get the job done. I slept like a rock throughout the whole night, even when my alarm accidentally went off five times at 4 a.m. Amy is very welcoming and made us feel right at home. She keeps the place in top-notch shape and I was even surprised to see her using Square to charge our credit card. Looks like Bay Area innovation is making its way across the country. We met some great people here who were biking across the country and other individuals who were just passing through. That interaction you get from a hostel setting is unbeatable. read more

Awesome find! We stayed at the Wanderlust on our way through Gunnison and loved it so much we stayed an extra day. The owner Amy is very welcoming and extremely knowledge about the area and it's outdoor activities....and totally made us feel at home. The rooms are comfy, clean and creatively decorated. There is even a costume closet (major score for people travailing with kids like we were). There's s full kitchen, BBQ out back and plenty of space to just chill in the ample living room. The location was also a big plus. The hostel is located close to some of Gunnison's climbing areas and just a short drive up to Crested Butte...a funky little ski town with great eats. This will definitely be our accommodation of choice when we come back in the winter for skiing and ice climbing. Overall great place with great people. Family friendly and affordable. We're fans of the Wanderlust for sure! read more

Checked in late and we were greeted upon arrival with a lovely note from a Stephanie directing us to our bunks. Place was immaculate, kitchen well equipped, loads of on street parking, plenty of common areas inside and out. My top bunk lacks a smidgy bit of headroom and so you cant actually sit up in bed, which wasn't a terrible inconvenience. The only thing I'd change is with 8 people in a small space it gets stuffy and hot quick and so a fan to blow in cool air would'a been A+ read more

We arrived at the Wanderlust expecting a pretty basic hostel, as soon as we walked in the door we instantly fell in love with the place. As weary travellers spending our Christmas away from our families, we felt at home within minutes. Amy went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and part of a little family, and to ensure that we were able to avoid the cold when catching our transport out of Gunnison. There was a wonderful communal feeling to the place with everyone helping out to prepare Christmas dinner. It's in a great location, nice and close to the bus stop to take you up to the mountain. Also close to the local store. We had a great time at the Wanderlust and will always remember our time there. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed at Wanderlust for a week in April, and were absolutely wowed by the amazing atmosphere and homely feel of the place. Amy and Kristen are gracious hostesses with incredible knowledge of the town and areas surrounding - also great company and really, ridiculously good looking. I completely second that this place is off the chain and am so glad that somebody posted pictures of this adorable hostel! I went in late September expecting nobody to be there, but was pleasantly surprised by a good crowd and a warm welcome from Kelsey, the co-manager. Everyone made me feel so at home... if I'd realized that this was the kind of place that let you nap in their hammock, grill out in their backyard, cook (and store!) in their kitchen, use their bikes, watch their Netflix and mooch off their wi-fi I would have probably planned to stay longer in Gunnison (which is a really cute town, by the way -- also, so unbelievably safe that apparently you can drop your wallet on the sidewalk and come find it 45 minutes later. True story. Unless you're a criminal, in which case I'm just kidding). Alas, I could only stay one night, but I had a great time watching Grandma's Boy and joking around with the whole crew on the living room couch, and was sad to say goodbyes the next morning. The cat is named Pork Chop and is super chill. He's got a blog, too, FYI. I opted for the private room, which was clean, colorful, comfortable and had tons of storage space. Appreciated the plugs, too! The bunkers were similarly adorable and looked like they'd be a ton of fun when the place gets crowded in the summer. Oh and the bathrooms -- impeccably clean, and fear not if you've forgotten anything: enough people come through and donate extras (food too) that you'll be totally hooked up here. We stayed here on a road trip through the Southwest to get a shower and bed between camping. This hostel is absolutely adorable and excelled in every way. Free bike rentals to ride around town, comfy living room and backyard to hang out and relax, easy parking, etc. The owner, Amy, raelly cares and is super friendly. She has worked as an adventure guide for many years and knows the surrounding area very well, providing us with great tips on places to eat, camp and hike! It is exactly as advertised except hard to advertise the feel of the space and the connectivity Amy and her crew create as people come through. If this is what your looking for, a clean bed, great community spaces including kitchen, and a communal spirit, you found it. wow!! we had such a nice stay here. my partner and I are hiking the Colorado trail and Gunnison was our choice for a zero day. we stayed in the bunk room one night and a private room one night. the rooms were both clean and comfortable, and the hostel overall is homey and adorable. we took advantage of everything! the garden vegetables and greens were so delicious, the kitchen was well-equipped, and the living room was comfy. a lovely stay. I've stayed at hostels all over the world but never before in the states. It's great to see the hostel culture making its way to the U.S. and this place was exactly what I love about hostels and their community culture. My boyfriend and I spent three nights over Christmas and met all sorts of awesome people by hanging around after our days on the slopes. Amy, the owner, is great - an outdoor enthusiast and world traveler herself. The location is perfect, walkable to most anywhere in Gunny and only a short drive to Crested Butte and Monarch - both of which are great mountains to ski/snowboard! It's been quite some time since my last hostel stay but this place is great! Warmly greeted by Stephanie, check-in is a breeze, the other guests were friendly, the beds comfortable, plenty of kitchen space. The grill & backyard were relaxing. Plenty of bikes to take deeper into town if needed. There were even late-night brownies (not that kind ;) that a number of us enjoyed. I had always been wary of hostels, having heard of terrible experiences, but I absolutely loved staying at the Wanderlust Hostel. Amy was super awesome and friendly and offered bikes to borrow and showed me a scenic detour for my trip.
