This was our first stay ever in a bed and breakfast and we were not sure what to expect. When we…read morearrived at Lark and Laurel we were greeted by Ross, one of the owners of the B&B, He showed us to our room and gave us a tour of the home and explained the rich history of the house. Absolutely amazing! We left the B&B as we had to set up for a wedding and rehearsal dinner. We got the keys to the house and our room and were off. We returned at 10:30 to find that the house was still open for us as Ross knew we would be in late from the rehearsal dinner. We sent straight to bed. We both slept well which is unusual for us as we normally do not sleep well the first night in a strange bed. In the morning we were greeted with fresh coffee and breakfast and what a great breakfast it was. A pancake, with a flat egg on top of that followed by a sausage patty topped off with black beans, picante sauce and sour cream. Absolutely delightful! We were off for the day. We returned at 8 p.m. to a quiet house. The owners were out hiking for the day. We made ourselves at home in the large, well kept garden, and socialized. When Ross and Laurie returned from their hiking trip, Ross made sure we had everything that we needed such as sufficient light, etc. In the morning, we enjoyed coffee in the parlor while waiting for the scrumptious breakfast. Laurie had made 4 cloud pancakes with syrup and a thick cup piece of bacon. The syrup was not the traditional maple syrup but a lemon cream type of syrup. Absolutely fantastic! Overall, this B&B has set a high standard for us when we stay at our second B&B, which will be sometime in the near future now. Thank you Laurie and Ross for being such great hosts! Upon walking in the door, Bobby offered a friendly greeting and fantastic tips for local entertainment. We settled in to the Traveler's Suite and then had a great time on the town based on his recommendations. Our room had been ready when we arrived at 2:30pm, even though check-in isn't until 4-6pm. An 11am check-out is appreciated, as other places can be earlier. The entire home is well decorated. The owners had to start from scratch when they bought it in '08 because the previous owners sold everything in the house and left it empty. They've done an amazing job at recreating a historical and luxurious atmosphere. The photos don't do it justice. A comfortable bed with super soft sheets, a flat screen TV, wireless internet, air conditioning and home-made cookies at your disposal are total bonuses. I would stay here even if these amenities and treats weren't available. They were kind enough to put a shower in the claw foot tub in our bathroom, as the general population is a little too spoiled and in a rush to think of just bathing these days. Noise from other guests was not an issue. We were served blueberry pancakes, bacon and fruit for breakfast, which were delicious. I'm always in fear of being served bad coffee, but they get a thumbs up for this too. Our cook for the day, who was filling in, did a great job and was very friendly as well. The exterior and property may need some maintenance, but I think they are slowly working on this. From what I could tell, the interior is impeccable. My spouse and I wanted to stay two nights but the Mansion was booked solid. It would be a riot to return with a group of friends. I'd recommend this place to anyone. It's worth every penny and you certainly don't meet cool people at a breakfast table when staying in a hotel.

It's only 100 miles east of Glacier, and there's not much out there other than chain motels; even those are few and far between. I can honestly say this B&B is the best place I have ever stayed. It's more than a B&B; it's a nice house with a big living room, dining area, and kitchen with full frig and microwave. The bedroom has a magnificently comfy overstuffed bed with crisp sheets and comforter. The best is a bathroom to die for. It's huge with a steam walk-in shower that is wonderful! As someone who pays attention to every detail, I particularly noticed the big, cushy, fluffy towels, and wonderful soaps, shampoos, delicious home-made creams and other items that you would only get in a fancy spa! The place is so clean and fresh and like your own home (only better and cleaner!). There is full Dish cable with more channels than you can ever watch. The innkeepers keep the place supplied with many books, magazines, and beautiful music CDs to listen to. There is also free wi-fi that's very fast. The innkeepers are wonderful. After saying hello to Patty, it seems you have known her your entire life. They are friendly and nice and a pleasure to be around. Her husband Philip came out and greeted us when we drove up. The best for last: The breakfast. Gourmet doesn't begin to describe it. Wonderful pancakes with huckleberry jam, espresso, and regular coffee. There were eggs and home-made applesauce and everything was more delicious than the next. Best orange juice I have ever had - and I'm from Florida!! Sure beats a frozen bagel on a Styrofoam plate at a chain hotel! The price is much less than I have paid for this quality of B&B, and price-comparable to a Holiday Inn that's an hour farther east. It was $95 a night (May, 2010), and the HI was $100. Extremely reasonable! I could drone on for hours, but I'm sure you get the idea. You will just have to take my word for it - this is the best place I have stayed. Five stars aren't nearly enough!

Rich and Trudy seemed to be the goodwill ambassadors for the entire Cascade area (as well as the local wildlife). Their B&B is isolated enough that we felt far and away, yet it was well-equipped (Trudy's dinners were well worth what she charged), and they both take pride in excellence not just in the upkeep of their facilities but the overall experience of their guests. We couldn't be happier with our all-too-brief time in Montana with the Hayes'. Of note is that this spot would be perfect for those in the fishing crowd, though there are a few nice walks back into the mountains or even along the non-operational train tracks down below running along the river and through a rock face. They even have horses which are not ready to ride yet, though it wouldn't hurt to ask about in the next season. Oh, and there are deer everywhere, lots of them, all calm as peace itself. Rich and Trudy were hilarious, informative, and welcoming when we were around them, but made it easy to be alone and gave us plenty of space without us hardly having to think the thought. They also had some great suggestions on hikes, activities, as well as driving routes and Montana attractions. This leg of our trip was definitely one of the high points of our trip. I have to say, this was the most memorable part of our trip...Rich and Trudy are amazing people! Not only did I have a blast hanging out with them, they are such gracious hosts as well. I felt so spoiled because they always made sure our bellies were filled with delicious food and that we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Their place is SPOTLESS - a huge relief after a couple of nights spent at icky motels. Trudy and Rich hold very high standards and it shows. Also, their rates are really low and include a delicious home cooked breakfast every morning. The Ranch at Deerborn is surrounded by beautiful mountains, a river and old train tracks. Animals abound! Deer, horses, chickens, cats, a dog and even a very polite skunk named "Spot" kept us company during our stay. We don't fish but if you do, then you really need to stay here. It's right in the middle of it! We will definitely be back...hopefully sooner than later!
