Copper Falls State Park is often ranked among Wisconsin's top state parks, and it's easy to see…read morewhy. Located in the Northwoods of northern Wisconsin, the park's highlight is the Doughboy Trail, a well-developed two-mile loop that offers excellent views of both Copper Falls and Brownstone Falls. The trail is easy to follow, well-maintained, and includes several scenic overlooks. Because of its distance--several hours from cities like Madison--I recommend combining a visit with other Northwoods attractions. A great option is to stop here while exploring the Apostle Islands or the Bayfield area. Once inside the park, follow the main road past the ranger station until it ends at the parking lot, where you'll find restrooms and the Doughboy Trailhead. This is a beautiful park and well worth the stop, especially if you plan it alongside other northern Wisconsin adventures.

We were able to park easily and walk a short, fairly easy loop to reach the falls. The view of the waterfall was beautiful, though the trail itself isn't very shaded. Thankfully, the weather was mild during our visit, which made for a pleasant stop. Parking was plentiful, and the park overall felt accessible and well maintained. A worthwhile stop for an hour or so if you're exploring northern Wisconsin.

We stayed in Tomahawk, WI for an extended holiday weekend and were looking for a spot to do some…read morepaddle boarding. While there's tons of lakes in the area, not all of them are ideal for paddle boarding. Buck Lake (which is part of the Almon Recreational Area) most definitely is! They don't rent out paddle boards right at the lake, so if you don't have your own, you'll definitely have to rent one elsewhere and bring it here. We have our own, so that wasn't a problem. The Almon Recreation Area includes a paved path leading to a small beach and nice little swimming area in Buck Lake. The beach also offers a great launching point for paddle boards. The lake itself is relatively small and wake free, so, even if the beach area is busy, you can easily paddle out to serenely crowd free conditions. We went three days in a row on a holiday weekend and only ever came within shouting distance of one canoe and one paddle boat. Beyond that, we had the lake to ourselves. Just above the beach is a wooded picnic area, complete with grills, picnic tables, and bathrooms. The recreation area also includes (down a separate paved path) a pretty epic frisbee golf course that meanders through the woods as well a trail system if you're looking to take scenic hike. Leashed dogs are allowed on the trail system. No pets (leashed or otherwise) are allowed at the beach/picnic area.

I've had Timm's Hill on my bucket list for DECADES! I climbed the tower on Rib Mountain when I was…read morea kid, only to find out later that Rib Mountain is NOT the highest point in Wisconsin. Well, today, finally - MADE IT, MA! TOP OF THE WORLD! (An obscure reference to James Cagney as Cody Jarrett.) At least, the Top of Wisconsin! It's Timm's Hill near Ogema, in Price County. At an elevation of 1,951.5 ft (595 m) above sea level, it is the highest natural point in the state. (The hill has a prominence of 425 feet - that means it rises 425 feet above the surrounding grade.) While you make a great deal of the 425 feet by vehicle, the rest of the climb is by your hoofing it up an improved trail. There are two benches on the trail where you can rest before reaching the summit. Once you get to the summit, there is a a county owned observation tower that you can climb. (80 steps, if I counted correctly.) The tower is adjacent to a fire tower that is actually centered on the geological marker that indicates the actual height is 1,952.868 feet about sea level. (The marker is mounted in a concrete pylon that might add an extra 1.368 feet, but I am speculating.) The fire tower is taller than the observation tower, so except for the fire tower struts, you have an unobstructed view of 30 miles in all directions. The park's gate is open May through October 7:30am-9:30pm.

My daughter and I stopped in before a wedding we attended. The staff was so nice and accommodating…read more I loved the little store they had-we got a nice puzzle and a butterfly toy to take home. Their facility is small but they pack in so much fun and educational items. My daughter loved the soft play area with all the toys and stuff. And also loved climbing up the tree and being able to walk outside to the observation patio. We tried to go on a short hike outside, but the mosquitoes were very bothersome and my little one was not having it. There is ample parking.

The kids did a small scavenger hunt in the building and received stickers for completing. A small tree you can clim had stairs and at the top a birds nest. The facility was very clean. The kids were given nets to catch bugs or butterflies (or frogs) and we utilized the "Purple" trail as an easy hike for the kids. The playground area was just the right size and the surrounding flowers we so cheery. The restrooms were very clean as well. We would have stayed longer but had lunch plans nearby. This is the perfect little park right on Lake Minocqua. We enjoyed when our children were little…read moreto pull the boat right up to it and let them out to play on the beach or have a picnic. Today I was there just to enjoy the fall weather and take a walk down all the trails near by. A lot of people were eating their lunches out on blankets and soaking up the last bit of the warm sunshine. They have a beautiful area with play equipment for children, a tennis court area, and a pavilion with a lot of picnic tables.

Wonderful experience on a beautiful 3 hour float on the Wisconsin River from RWT to County K sign…read more Lots of twists and turns and navigable obstacles. Path was kept just clear enough to keep it a fun little adventure. Very clean and lots of wildlife...if you're quiet. Very comfy sit on Kayaks. Knowledgeable outfitters. Can't wait to try the whitewater kayaking!

This is such a beautiful area and my understanding that it's the beginning of the Wisconsin river…read more We did (11 year old and 4 other young adults )the 1 hour kayak trip and we will do the 2 hour trip next. The stream never got over 4 ft but there were some navigations to be made around some stumps which made it fun. Just do it.
