My sister and I decided to grab a bite to eat while in town for the Natchitoches Christmas Festival. We got a table quickly which was a plus given how busy it was on a Saturday's in December. Our waitress was nice enough and made some suggestions. We ordered a meat pie to split since that IS what the town is known for and wanted to try one. For the main meal we decided to play it safe (or so we thought) and ordered burgers. Simple cheeseburger and hand cut fries for her and cheeseburger and stuffed potato for me. But back to the meat pie. It was really good. Four star I'd say even though it's the only one we have ever eaten. Seasoned really well with just a touch of heat. Crust was good but not great. So we were excited about our burgers. Every great pub had a good burger right. Ummmm, nope!!! I ordered mine medium rare, which the waitress said was no problem. It came out well done. Ok, they are busy so I was going to over look it. We were hungry and I didn't want to wait for a new burger. As I eat the first bite all I can taste is garlic powder. I tried one more and it was bad. I told my sister I can't eat it. She agreed it was so heavy of a cheap garlic powder taste that it overwhelmed your mouth. Now I use granulated garlic at home on my burger but this was to the extreme. I decide I need to tell the waitress. (Which I hate doing). My sister says she will deal with it. She also said her "hand cut" fries were greasy, limp and didn't end up eating them. When our waitress checks in with us, I tell her the garlic powder is much too much. And she apologizes and asks if she can bring anything else. I say no but I can't eat this burger. She didn't take it away so I sit with the burger, wreaking of garlic, in front of me for another 15 minutes. It was nauseating. As we get the check we notice she didn't bother to take the burger off the bill. Usually at Christmas time we happily give generous tips by tipping the same amount as the bill. Well, not this time. Terrible customer service if you don't take care of your customers complaint of poor food. So we paid for the burger and only gave her a 15% tip. She lost out on $25. Moral of the story. DONT EAT HERE. Aside from their meat pie, the food is nothing short of terrible. Honestly McDonald's would have been better and that's saying A LOT!!!!!!!! read more

My family and I came here to snack, not intending on staying for dinner. We got the much talked about wookie fries, and they did not disappoint. Eat these with a little bit of ranch and the goodness intensifies. I would come here again, definitely. We have eaten 4 meals since we've been visiting Nakatosh at the Pioneer Pub and I am giving it 5 stars and would give 10 if I could. I've been here plenty of times and had most of the menu items. The food may be the best in Natchitohes, especially in the spring/summer when the vegetables are fresh from the garden on top of the restaurant. The staff is competent, and friendly. Food orders can be slow to arrive, but nothing in Natchitoches is done w/ urgency, so enjoy the wait. The Pub as locals call it, is a popular business in Natchitoches. Its regulars are mix of social elite,bikers and everyone in between. If beer is your passion, this is the place. there are 12 brands on tap and all others are ICE COLD. Food is also well done in the Pub. Live music is good. My favorite is thursday nites band. We had a great time at this pub! We love to sit at the bar so we can meet people and this turned out to be better than average! Everyone was so friendly. The couple that owned a kitchen shop a couple of doors away offered us a discount. Two Vietnam vets and a local school coach rounded out the group. Just what we were looking for--friendly locals. The bartenders were great, the gumbo was good but could have had a little more sausage for my taste and the fried pies were tasty. The food was good; not exceptional, but if you like a bar experience right down to some skeletons and strange stuff hanging on the walls, you'll enjoy picking this place for a good time. read more

One of my most favorite local places to eat or have a drink! I love the wookie with their ranch dressing on the side it is quite possibly my most favorite guilty pleasure for a meal! My wife and I tried this place twice. On the first try, we got a table and waited... and waited and waited. One of the waitresses even got the menu from our table to give to other customers. After about 25 minutes we got up and left, no one acknowledged us during this whole time. On our second attempt we got in, waited for around 5 minutes and noticed it was going the same way as last time so just left. Apparently they do not want our business. Service was slow, drinks were left empty for too long. Brisket fries were good. The ribeye had a lot of fat. The chicken pasta was drowned in sauce and the flavor wasn't particularly appetizing. I don't know how fresh the pasta was as I saw an extremely large container of cooked pasta in the kitchen. Go somewhere else!!! The hummus was terrible. It tasted like dirt no joke. Our food took about 40 minutes to be received The restaurant was not busy at all. Two of our orders were wrong. My sister in law ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and it was served ice cold. My food was sent out after 55 minutes when we all ordered at the same time and was also wrong. I spoke with manager and she was understanding. One meal was removed off of the ticket as well as two sides. I will not be returning. It was way too long of a wait for how slow the restaurant was. I will not be recommending this restaurant for any of my friends or family. Also, my mom got a quesadilla and the vegetables were raw on the inside. If I could give it less stars I would. They were not busy at all and waited over 1.5 hrs for our food. New Orleans chicken was hardly room temperature and drowned in sauce. Alligator po boy bread was very chewy and alligator was not seasoned well. Shrimp po boy had some other type of meat on it that was not shrimp or alligator. Wookiee was straight up gross. read more

I love the pub if only for the atmosphere which gets a definite five star rating. I knocked one star off because at times, the service is super slow (the waitresses are swamped at times, so it's understandable) and the food isn't always the best...but it's never bad either. Spent a lot of time here over the weekend for a class reunion. Friendly service, but slow. They had a hard time keeping up when we swamped them 2 nights in a row. Food is decent. Staff and local patrons were friendly. Got crowded fast, though, so was hard to find a place that was out of the way. We spent a lot of time standing on the sidewalk out front, then waiting to get drinks at the bar. On a more average night, though, would be worth giving it a shot. read more

Monday night, medium crowd. Quiet enough to carry on a conversation. Wait staff very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the menu and beer choices. Food: we were a party of 4, our food came out one plate at a time with significant time between. My friend was finished with his meal before the last one was served. We tried waiting for the others but hot gumbo doesn't wait. After that I looked around and that seemed to be happening to the other tables as well. This may be a fluke, we will definitely be back. I had the filet cooked med rare. It was excellent. One had gumbo, said it was good and well seasoned. Fried catfish was a generous amount and well cooked. 4th person had the fried shrimp, it was institutional, small and disappointing. Salads were small but fresh. We will definitely be back to try other dishes (all but the fried shrimp) and look forward to adding another restaurant to our list of regulars. read more

Unique bar and restaurant at the end of the Front Street strip. If you like a corner bar then this is it. Definitely more laid back and less packed than the closer to Church Street bars and restaurants. Serves mostly finger type foods, burgers and sandwiches. Worth the extra walk.
