The site we stayed on (113) is the only transient site with a view that isn't on a busy road. It's super rocky and the water spigot flows into the only area flat enough to pitch a tent, but the view and proximity to attractions made it worth it. (FYI the "beach" is minuscule and always crowded.) The price was reasonable, and the people were friendly, so we rebooked for next year. After paying our deposit and securing the same site for next year we ordered a custom base for our tent to elevate it off the rocks and protect it from the water flow. Three days after it shipped, Paugus Bay Campground called to cancel our reservation with some story about dates shifting because of Bike Week, but when we agreed to take whatever dates were available they admitted they were giving our reservation to people who've been staying there longer and that we wouldn't be getting that site again. I understand taking care of your regulars, but they took the reservation and our deposit. Now we're out $800 for equipment we ordered specifically for this site, and when I tried to explain that Sue (?) nastily told me "That's not our problem." It disgusting that there were no cancellations allowed for my friend, but that my reservation is meaningless and I was essentially told to go f**k myself. I'm sure it's lovely to stay here if you've been doing so for decades, but there is no hospitality here for newcomers.

We needed to stay in the area for one night before a wedding. Now you might not think that would be…read moreproblematic, but it was, considering 1) it was prime Leaf Peeping season, 2) it was a holiday weekend, and 3) the chain hotels that hadn't yet sold out insisted on a two night minimum. So for all of those reasons, we ended up with a one-night reservation at the Mount Whittier Motel in Ossipee and paid $119 for a super clean and neat room. Our positive experience started off when we walked into the office to check in and met Amy -one of the coolest, most engaging, delightful and just plain nice persons we've met in a long time.  She recommended a few restaurants to us, then we shot the breeze and gabbed with her as if she was an old college friend, really -- she was that much fun. Our motel room was a big main room with an attached bath. The main room was big enough, had a TV with a lot of channels, a fridge and microwave, and had plenty of electric outlets. It had one night stand, a pole lamp and a table lamp on the nightstand. The bathroom was bigger than some of the ones we squeezed into at a chain hotel- where the act of closing the door comes THISCLOSE to hitting the toilet. The shower was great with plenty of hot water and pressure. Its located right on Route 16 with plenty of restaurants to the left and the right. Improvement Opportunities Be careful inputting their address into your GPS. We had some trouble finding it because there is an Ossipee and a Central Ossipee and our GPS got confused (or maybe it was operator error?). There's no coffee maker in the room, but coffee is available in the office And then there is the bed with the softest, fluffiest, squishiest mattress ever seen. It was like sleeping on a giant marshmallow or a half filled waterbed. Laying down on one side caused the other side to rise up into the air and set off ripples like an aftershock. It definitely took some getting used to. Bottom line? All in all we had a very good experience at the Mount Whittier Motel.

I really didn't believe him but then lived around the country and understood what he meant. I forgot about that for a long time until I checked into the Mount Whittier Hotel. It's kind of rural but still in civilization to be fair. I was surprised it was about $85/night. Keep in mind this is Ossipee, New Hampshire; POPULATION: 1,711. The room and bathroom is small and basic but clean. You can hear the cars driving by except from about midnight to 5 AM. The family is really nice and before I left, the father gave me a hot cup of masala tea - YUM! But I suggest that they have an iron and ironing board in each room instead of having to go to the front desk to get it. The set up outside is similar to the Bates Motel...time to shower!

Cabins are very cozy and have everything you need. Beach right across the road, can walk over in your bathing suit it's so close. Beach has chairs, floaty devices, canoes/kayaks for rental ($20 or $10, respectively), row boat, and a floating dock. Can easily row yourself over to see the covered bridge nearby. Very close to cute little towns like Holderness, Ashland, and Laconia/Weirs Beach. Awesome little gift shop with free coffee - this isn't a supply store, though that'd be great. They light the fire pit every evening, it's lovely. Overall, you get the best parts of camping (remote, rustic, campfires) without the worst parts/with basic modern amenities (decent enough bed, electricity, plumbing, cooking supplies, wifi, driving access to towns). If you don't like even the best parts of camping and prefer hotels, then stay in a hotel! Only wish we weren't right on the road, which is fairly busy with cars and even trucks coming by. Everything else is perfect. Bet this would be a fun place in the winter too.

Had made deposits on two weekends, in January and I gave proper notice to cancel at least 10 days in advance on one weekend rental and at least 8 days on the other weekend rental. The policy of the rental deposit is if they able to re-book, they refund you your deposit back. The policy on website rental is, a minimum rental of 2 nights must be booked on Sat/Sun nights, or Sun/Mon nights in advance. They split up my rental bookings when they booked it both times(in other words, they rented Saturdays singly, and both Sunday nights, or Sunday and Monday nights were left out there singly alone). So, the rentals that they put out, were not the same rentals, as when I rented them. Hey, they are the owners, they can do what they want, but to rent for part of my rental period, and keep all of my deposit, just seems crappy. They then have refused to return any portion of either of my deposits. I have proof for both. Poor business practices in my opinion. I called and emailed multiple times, to inquire about why my two deposits had not been returned after they had re-booked, albeit under different rules, that they created. I spoke to the new property manager, they did not know what to say, or how to address my questions. They had to talk to the new owners. Never got back to me. So, in essence, BEWARE, if you have to cancel due to illness. Your deposit won't be returned or put on a future date. This is not like the previous owners, who were some very special people, very flexible people, who cared about their clients, and families, who made relationships that lasted a lifetime. Who wanted people to return to their cabins year after year. These new owners care about the almighty dollar bill. That's okay. I won't be going back.

Beautiful views of the lake and sunrises right from the room. Even better views from the beach on premises. The rooms are very clean and the entire place is kept well. King size bed in our room. I am used to a full kitchens with Rci. The only thing that is provided is a mini fridge and a microwave. Not sure if the two bedrooms have a full kitchen. The outdoor hot tub is large enough for 16 people. Beautiful stonework around the hot tub and a great view of the lake. I suggest going in at night when you can see the stars. I didn't realize there was free continental breakfast served daily between 8 to 10. Lots of great choices from cold cereals to eggs. You can eat in the breakfast area, or take back to your room. Plates and utensils are provided. Many different kinds of drinks are available in the cooler. Other than the hot tub, there is a small workout room, sauna, and beach on premises. Each room has a coffee maker with coffee and tea provided. They also provide shampoo, conditioner, and soap. There is an ice machine downstairs for ice coffee or drinks. I would definitely recommend staying here. There are many more activities during the summer than winter. I basically used the week to relax. Overall great experience with Center Harbor Inn. And why is the hotel found on Yelp as Tranquility Springs because the spa is inside the Opechee Inn, but okay. So tonight, after several different visits to the restaurant and hotel gift shop (since Chaos and Kindness moved downtown--this is the only gift shop within walking distance to us), unfortunately, I am not thrilled with the hotel. Typically, while we wait for O Steaks restaurant to open, we sit quietly in the 'lodge room' or outside of the hotel entrance (under cover) for a few minutes. The restaurant opens at 4pm and since my husband had a stroke three years ago, we have to take our time walking. We have never had an issue, nor are there any signs saying "hotel guests only," so we rest in the lodge room (which is adjacent to the side door to the restaurant inside the hotel)--until today. We are reasonable people. And because I knew we got there even earlier than usual today, I specifically bought something at the gift shop ($15 Christmas gift for a family member), as a gesture of gratitude for being able to sit in the air conditioning in that EMPTY side room. So, here comes some hotel woman in just as we were getting ready to leave the room and enter O Steaks and asked if we were staying at the hotel. I replied no, that we're locals and were just waiting on the restaurant to open. THEN she informed us that they want to save the room for hotel guests! Ugh. Okay. Save the empty room! I was shocked and annoyed. We went to the restaurant immediately. But I will never go back into the Inn again. Believe it.

Two queen beds for me and me, a refrigerator, TV, seating area, desk, etc. On my first morning I had to be somewhere at 8am so I stopped at their free breakfast. I'm not sure what others are complaining about. There was coffee, tea, muffins, cereal, milk, yogurt, etc. It was fine. The employees I interacted with were all friendly. Cons would be the shower was a bit small, the water pressure was a little low, and my room was on the restaurant side of the building and there was some noise from that as the restaurant gets quite busy. One more thing I would add is the window coverings do not offer to blackout the morning light so plan on not having full darkness. All in all a very nice stay. Not cheap but nice!

Breakfast was served quickly and everything we ate was great. If I could have given LI four and a half stars I would have. We had a very nice stay.

Very friendly staff. It's one of the places I would like to return to.
